I love credit cards so much!

You can either call them or send them a message. They would have to close that card as that cannot be changed to a UR product. They shouldn't give you any hassle other than asking why you want to close it.

I am definitely going to send them a message if they close it out that way if I don't have to call! Thanks!

I'm just wondering how much of a hassle they will give me when I tell them I want to close out my Southwest CC....[/QUOTE]

When I called to close my southwest card they offered me $50 statement credit to keep it open so I did keep it open for a while. My husband called to close his and they offered him $100 credit. So might be worth it to call and see if they can make it worth your while to keep it open

If I want to close out my Southwest CC and add a different Chase card to get the bonus UR points, can I just call Chase and have them do those transactions over the phone? Or do I have to call to cancel and then apply for the separate Chase card online?

When I cancelled DH's for him, I didn't get any type of hassle at all. Since we have the Chase Sapphire we use that accrue the points to SW instead now. I was closing DH's also so he would have the closed long enough so when it was his turn to get the companion pass, they would have been closed more than a sufficient length of time.

Which cc gives 3x on Disney theme park tickets, if any? I have CSR, Amex Gold (and blue cash) and Citi Premier.

Thanks

I can't speak to Amex Gold or Citi Premier, but if you purchase your theme park tickets through LMT Club, it will code as travel for purposes of the CSR and give you 3x.

Tickets purchased from Undercover Tourist also code as 3x on the CSR.

I was able to use 1 MR point on amazon to take $25.00 off a $50.00 Starbucks gift card. The promo code is "Amex17ever". You have to use at least 1 MR to get the deal. I'm pretty sure my MR points are still frozen, though.
Points unfrozen today!! Wohoo. I'm transferring 100,000 points to Aeroplan for our united flights to Calgary. Cashing out the rest for Fairmont gift cards.

Yeah...I'm going to actually be upgrading my husband's disneyland ap to a signature, and wondered which one would give the better points. This would be direct from disney.
Thanks!

I am looking for some opinions from you Credit Card Experts on here:)

We will be doing a remodel project to part of the house with money from a bonus. Will
be paying contractor around 16/17 thousand. I sure would like to put that on credit card
for points then pay it in full.

Which card would you use? I have Chase saph and reserve. Amex Prg. Barclay. Citi Premier and
my favorite Cap 1 venture ( i use that one the most because of straight 2x on everything.)

I would like to plan a Hawaii trip next year so I save/use my points for travel.

Oh and please let me know if you see any other/good CC offers because i looked around and saw none.

Thank you!!

Ok, so opinions would be helpful.

My husband and I both have our own Southwest cards. We have had these for a while (my initial attempt to get the CP failed when my husband decided to put his own app in vs. having me do my second). We typically fly at least once a year on SW, but it's been trending to be two.

I also have an Amex Starwoods card which he is a AU on.

Currently, he puts all of his spending on his SW card and I mainly use my SW card with about 1/3 going to Amex.

I'm thinking about going to Chase to apply for the CSR in branch tomorrow. Looks like other sites show success yet in the branch and tomorrow is the last day (unless you can find a branch open on a Sun). If I do that is there any value in keeping the SW card? I'd love to pair this with the Freedom card, but guessing I can't downgrade the SW card to Freedom (thought I saw someone mention that upthread). I would be looking at two apps so should I do those same day?

Do you have the AMEX blue everyday or preferred? I would buy Disney gift cards from the grocery store to get either 3% cash back on the everyday or 6% on the preferred. You can call the Disneyland AP line and upgrade using the gift cards.

We do use Discover bonus categories, right now 5% cash back at gas stations. Next quarter it's home improvement stores & warehouse clubs. That will net us nothing since we have a Costco membership.
Thank you for that info.

When the Chase Freedom is Lowe's or Wholesale Clubs we will purchase Disney gift cards at both. We don't redeem the Freedom UR points for cash. Instead we transfer them to our CSR account (CSP before we had the CSR) and use for travel.
Thank you for that info, that moves the Freedom card up considerably. I bought DGC last year through Target and combined them on the Disney Gift Card site to pay my DVC dues but did not go that route this year because I had too much going on. I know you use the other Disney account to get the $20 bonus for $1000, were you still able to pay DVC dues that way (I haven't kept up there either)?

You should NOT count on that. The only thing you can count on is what is listed on the TSA website, children 12 and younger may use TSA pre-check when a parent or guardian has it on their boarding pass. Beyond that it's luck. I was reluctant to chime in because of the successful DPs of other party members getting pre-check listed here and elsewhere but with the 2 TSA changes in the last month it really changed the value I put on TSA pre-check. Changes being significantly less travelers are supposed to be receiving "free" pre-check and, more importantly imho, the more intrusive groping procedures- uh, I mean "pat downs" http://viewfromthewing.boardingarea...tsa-announces-pat-downs-will-become-intimate/
Yes, I was patted down for the 1st time ever. Departing ORD to San Juan on United with a group from my husbands work, they opened a security line just for us though which was also a 1st. My husband was patted down and had his bag swabbed.

After sitting back and watching all the fun you all have been having because I was in the process of relocating (selling one house and buying another) I am so ready to get going :-). We finally closed yesterday, I used Chase for the new mtg. I will be converting a free-standing building to a pool/guest house so will have lots of opportunity to spend. I am 1/24 (CSR 9/16). I usually fly SW out of Midway, and United out of ORD (Chicago). I have a small side business which I think will qualify my for business cards also. I have two points goals,
  1. Take my family of 7 plus two infants to WDW in Dec on SW. I know most want to open 2 SW cards for the companion benefit. I want to open 2 to use the points for this trip. It will take about 130k points.
  2. Take my family (which will be 9 by then) to Aulani in 1/2019 on United (the only NS out of Chicago). I have not seen that many seats available the few times I checked the rewards site so I know this may not be an option for the entire group.

I think I need to apply for both SW cards asap (preferably on the same day) one business and one personal. That will put me at 2/90

I am confused about what order to go in after that. Will I be at 3/24 or 2/24? Does business accounts count against the 5/24 rule? If not I would wait the 90 days and then go with a personal and business United (again applying on the same day).

I have received offers from Citi AAvantage 60k points and Discover it with matching cashback for 1 year. I would like to get those too but I think they could interfere with the SW & United plans above or future Chase options.

I appreciate you insight and suggestions!

Thanks

As far as the SW cards go, the business card should not impact your 5/24. After adding a personal card and the business card you should be at 2/24.

For your United trip out of Chicago, I have a couple of other suggestions. I've historically had a hard time getting award seats on United so I have stayed away from their branded card. Option 1, use your UR and book through the CSR portal. Option 2, look into the Barclay Card and the Capital One Venture card. Both of those options would allow you to book the tickets on United and "erase" the charges.

Congrats on the new place. I find moving very stressful, I can't imagine with a large family. (BTW we are in Chicago burbs)
One idea, I used CSR travel bonus to buy airline gift cards because I wasn't ready to book travel when the bonus was available. So now I have a $300 SW gift card to use for our WDW trip next year.
Also consider the SPG Amex, 35k bonus right now. WDW Swan/Dolphin are 10-12k points per night. You could also add Marriott card for 80k points (which will convert to 26k Starpoints)

As far as the SW cards go, the business card should not impact your 5/24.

I believe all Chase cards including business cards count against 5/24.

The reason business cards from other CC companies don't count is because they don't show up on your CR, so Chase doesn't know you have them.

Obviously Chase knows if you signed up for one of their business cards.

But would they show up if you used your SS# instead of an EIN? Such as many sole proprietors do?
