I love credit cards so much!

Do the points for referrals for RR credit cards go through the referring member's credit card?

I referred DH and he got his card over the weekend. I'm wanting to close my Southwest card soon though because the annual fee will be posting this month. But, I'm afraid if I close the account I won't get the 5,000 referral points.

Just wondering if anyone knows how that works. I've never referred anyone before.
Yes - the referral will come through on your CC statement. If the 5k points don't post by the statement you're annual fee posts on you'll have to make a tough choice.

Thank you. If it comes down to it, I'll probably just keep the card for another month or so. The bonus anniversary points basically "pay" for the annual fee and the referral bonus would be extra on top of it. Maybe it'll all work out and I won't have to pay the annual fee though! Thanks again!

@Alice Sr. I love your new avatar! Those must be your grandbabies and they are precious! I have a pic of my girls when they were almost the same ages (4 & 2) that is almost the same.

Awe, thank you so much. It makes me laugh, the baby is the best baby I have ever seen, never cries, never attitude just super easy. This is our proof picture that she's human lol. I love your new avatar too, you make such a great looking couple.

I believe you have 30 days from the date the annual fee posts to cancel and request a refund. Also - if you do pay the fee, might as well keep the card open for another year and earn the bonus anniversary points again. You can cancel the card and keep the anniv. points without paying the fee.

Oh my, so funny! My younger dd was the 'perfect' baby too. People would always ask, "does she ever cry?", and she never really did. Except in this one pic we have that is similar :) She just was not liking the whole 'going to get pictures done' thing. And thank you for the compliment!

I happened to notice this today (couple similar articles which came out within the last couple of days). Just FYI might explain some of the troubles lately. I don't manufacture spend, but all the same I am glad both DH and I have been approved for the Starwood Amex deal. I would have probably talked myself out of doing it if I had seen this first.

Incidentally, I had my husband apply (well I did it with his knowledge) for the Starwood Amex. Once he got approved I sent the referral link to my email and applied for mine that way. Just noticed today that the 5000 referral bonus appeared on his card today with the closing of his statement.

AMEX isn't going to be very happy with us, that's for sure. They offered us 5000 bonus points on SPG with a $5000 spend by May 30th. This is on our existing cards, we are coming up on our annual fee in the next month or two. We already had a large purchase planned, so I signed up for the offer. Put an even $5000 on dh's card, and almost all of the $5000 on mine, well before May 31st. Wonder if I will get the bonus points at the end of this cycle, so I can cancel before the fee hits? This was not manufactured, it was a legit large purchase. But we are for sure churners.

They are looking for spending on cash equivalents i.e. Prepaid gift cards and money orders which can be liquidated for cash. They are also looking for people who buy things to meet minimum spending, get the bonus, then return the item after they get the bonus. They call that "returns".

They especially hate people who do "returns", get the bonus, transfer the bonus out then close the account to get a refund of the annual fee.
Someone I know met the minimum spending organically but then made the mistake of downgrading her platinum card which has an annual fee of $450 to a green card which has a fee of $95. After she downgraded, they clawed back her points because she received a prorated refund of her annual fee..

Is using a service like Plastiq considered MS?

if your sole purpose is to pay yourself, then yes, thats MS. If your paying towards like a mortgage or rent, then it is not. I know some credit card companies, specifically Amex can tell depending on the transaction levels it request.

Received a letter from Fairmont stating that I had earned my two free nights and they would be deposited into my account. Now to call Fairmont and have them apply it to my Lake Louise ressie.

Patiently waiting for my Barclays card. As long as it comes before March 31, I'm golden as I need to payoff summer camp.

Also received the letter from Amex stating my account was no longer under review and my points were available for use...this was in response to my consumer protection financial bureau complaint. I'll keep for my records.

How did you send the referral link? I have the Starwood AMEX card and plan on opening one for my husband. I would love to get bonus points but I don't see an option on my account to send a link to anyone.

Thank you for that info.

Thank you for that info, that moves the Freedom card up considerably. I bought DGC last year through Target and combined them on the Disney Gift Card site to pay my DVC dues but did not go that route this year because I had too much going on. I know you use the other Disney account to get the $20 bonus for $1000, were you still able to pay DVC dues that way (I haven't kept up there either)?

I was able to pay my dues with the DVA and had no issues.

I did it by just googling and then using the link that came up with "Amex spg refer a friend." But I was looking at it again this morning and if you go to the Amex home page on your account and then click on where it says "Benefits" it came up under that as a "refer a friend" link. I have also seen before it listed on my Delta Amex under the "Offers" section. Good luck! I am just happy it worked and I thought to try it!

Yep, I see it in the "benefits" section on my account. Thank you so much, I would have never thought to look there! BTW, I LOVE this thread!!

Looking for a low min spend requirement, don't have many things I can charge each month. 3-4 nights in Paris and ok with either brand hotel. Do you do choice rewards or club Carlson?

I'd appreciate if someone could check my logic. DH is at 4/24. I want to him to get the SPG Amex Personal by 4/5 for the 35K points. I also want him to try for an Ink Cash. I'm still meeting my minimum spend on my CSR, which I will do at the end of this month. It's bad timing because I'll have to try to meet both the $3K SPG minimum and the $3K Ink minimum simultaneously (we'll go for the additional $2K on the SPG after that). But if he gets the SPG card he'll be at 5/24 with Chase and then won't be eligible for the Ink until the next card drops off in October, so I have to do it in this order if I want to go for both, correct?

I would do club Carlson as I hear there are some very nice raddison hotels in Europe. The card sign up only gives 80,000 points for $1,000 spend right now. Don't know how far that will stretch..maybe two nights? You may need to pair it with a another card. Also keep in mind that many hotels in Europe have double occupancy max, so a family of 4 would need 2 rooms. This makes it hard to churn when you have a large family traveling together.

Good point about typical hotels in Europe being double occupancy only, but another plus for the Club Carlson card is that we've been successful in places like Copenhagen and Edinburgh finding family rooms at Radisson Blu that comfortably accommodate 4 people.
