I love credit cards so much!

Stopped for gas and almost couldn't find my Discover card - phew! After I found it as I waited for the tank to fill, I had the thought that this was a good month to end up with two trips to my hometown, especially because last weekend we filled up two cars at each stop!

Just dabbling for now! I’ve been following this thread and gathering bits and pieces of information, but I’m not ready for a full plunge yet. I’m thrilled with the progress I’ve made so far though! I’ve been converted from a primarily debit card user with a multiple just-in-case credit cards (oh the shame lol) to a points-seeking credit card user! :rotfl2:
Dabbling is fine :) with a lot of the rules on applications now it’s a lot easier to be a “dabbler” than hardcore. Do you have a spouse or player 2 to work with too?

We initially looked into using the free Marriott nights for DLR but the closest cat 5 was a few miles away. I prefer walking distance if not on directly on property for DLR. For Dapper Days in DLR I’m using DVC points. I had about 280 something points sitting in reservation status that I have to use this year. So I booked a couple of rooms at Grand California on the hotel side and invited some of the friends we’ve met on Disney cruises and now travel with to come with us for the weekend and we’d spring for the accommodations.

I’ve only been able to use the free Marriott nights for WDW so we are dong Dapper Days the following weekend in WDW and using our free nights there. I can never seem to find any other cat 5 property anywhere that I’d want to use those nights at except for WDW.
Ah, got it. Glad you get to stay at GCH for DLR Dapper Days! I don't know if you've been there since they refurbished the rooms, but I was there a few weeks ago and they are really nicely done.

Yes, the Category 1-5 restriction is a tough one. I don't have a Marriott card yet but I've been thinking of applying for the no AF biz version being offered right now. I don't think I would renew it after a year since I really don't see anywhere we would use the free night.

Let me know if you want to meet up at DLR! We have the Blue Bayou Fantasmic! dining package reserved for the Sat night and Sun lunch reserved at Cafe Orleans. In past years I've noticed some folks have met up for at GCH for drinks. I'll let you know if I see anything mentioned. Can't wait!

If I wasn’t able to use the free nights every year at WDW, I would not have kept the card. I haven’t been since the refurb. Looking forward to seeing it. I’d love to meet up and say hi. I know we have dinner and lunch reservations each day but don’t remember the when and where. One of our traveling companions is also my TA so I let her do the planning. DH and I will be sporting Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps Zootopia Disneybound outfits, so we shouldn’t be too hard to spot.

Just an FYI, I just saw on the news that Toys R Us is closing ALL stores, not just select ones. No timeline on this, but maybe just keep this in mind as I know some of you MS through Gift of College cards. Perhaps someone else sells them, but I know I've heard @havaneselover in particular mention that she gets her there.

I just read the comments on DoC's post about the 300 stars at Starbucks. Someone said, "Per their support this is only valid in Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, Ohio and Pennsylvania. I forwarded the email to Chuck and Will." Apparently it doesn't say this in the T&C. I don't know if this is accurate, but I thought I'd point it out.
Also, points are not instantly awarded, it could take up to 5 days according to the promotion.
DoC has confirmed that this is NOT true. The offer isn't geographically restricted. :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone for the pep talk on the CIP. I won't withdraw it. Honestly that sounds like more of a hassle now then anything since I would have to call again and try to talk to someone. Perhaps stupidly I just didn't expect them to call like that! You all think I am okay to not worry too much on charges on it though? Any reports of people having their Chase business accounts reviewed for actual business charges? I really don't want to have an awkward phone call like that again!
Heck, I was in the middle of them going through my application when I lost the connection and still got approved. I was tired of talking and didn’t bother calling back either. The card just showed up in the mail. So there is hope.

Thanks! Yes they called while I was in the car and I should have just not answered but I was getting more than a little exasperated. At the end I was like "whatever you called me and launched into this and I don't have any information in front of me." So maybe I sufficiently played hard to get. I totally understand tired of talking! Definitely different from Amex.

Oh my. I missed your post about this. That would have completely had me flustered. Sorry you had to go through that!

Just stopped by Starbucks and bought a $10 gift card (not a reload just in case) with ChasePay (CF). Was simple and scanned with one try. Cashier seemed to know exactly what it was and told me to hold it up with a tilt to make sure it scanned right, so here’s to hoping the stars show up quickly and I can report back.

I'm trying to max out my Discover quarter and even after buying a BJ's gift card to cover shopping the rest of the year I still have a couple hundred to go. So I'm thinking about gas stations but I've never used a gift card at a gas station before. I haven't noticed a GC option at the Sunoco pumps so I assume if they can be used for gas I have to go inside. Is there any brand that takes gift cards at the pump? Or do you have to apply them with the cashier? Speedway and Sunoco are our top two, but Shell and Exxon/Mobile are doable. Is there someone easier than the others?

Just bought GC's at speedway with my discover to max out the 5% category, you can use them at the pump just like a credit card, they sell GC's for gas, merchandise, and gas & merchandise, so just make sure you get the type of gift card you want. If you have a speedy rewards card you also get additional bonus points!

you need to make a complaint about it with gyft support. that should trigger the verification process... after that, you should be in the clear.

I did Albort. They sent a reply that sometimes they need to verify the orders or something to that effect. So frustrating. No offer to complete any verification process.

That's what looked confusing at first with so many options, until I took the minute to, ya know, read the page. Didn't explain why they had so many but as long as I'm not getting some type of service fee may as well get the gas & merch it seems like.
If I have Acme fuel rewards hubby fills up at Sunoco but if not he hits Speedway at the corner of his work. I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner, I could have just bought a bunch of gift cards to have him use instead of making him remember what card to carry!

I've gotten stuck in the traffic a couple of times in recent years, so not an actual trip to see them, but it accomplished the same thing. They are worth seeing! Last spring I was over in Northern Virginia and decided to come across via 66 and the Mall area, completely forgetting it was Cherry Blossom season - hours of traffic!

The National Park Service has revised their peak bloom prediction now to March 27 to 31, due to the cold snaps we've had.

Noooooo. When they made their March 17-20 prediction I booked hotel for this weekend. I was so excited because we always miss it due to track and soccer season. Thought we could get it in this year before things start. I have been checking it every day to see if they changed their prediction. Sad face for me. My daughter wants to go back next weekend for the March for Life thing, but I don't know if I can do 2 weekends in a row. Or deal with the crowds for the March.

I need some help with AUs. I don’t want either DH or myself to be AUs on any cards obviously. I recently got the SPG Biz and thought since the AUs are “employees” it wouldn’t be reported on their credit report. I ordered an AU Card on my Biz account, but at the last minute put DSs name just in case it reported to a credit bureau. Card arrived and they want DSs DOB and SS#, and I need to talk to them to activate the card.
Does Amex report biz AUs? What is the min age for an AU for Amex?
I believe the minimum age is 12 or 15 yrs old. I know chase you are able to add anyone so i added my son to get the bonus points from using the AU card once

Based on my experience with the Amex Platinum (personal though), it s 13. At least it had to be 13+ to receive bonus MRs for adding an AU. I can’t say for sure whether that’s an absolute age floor for an AU.
