I love credit cards so much!

Yup, someone reported this on Reddit:
There was another post on that thread as follows:

Random Commenter: Wonder what this does for plastiq.
Known/Respected Churner: Nothing. Because plastiq isn’t either of these things

It will be interesting to see how this one plays out...I'd like to think that Plastiq will continue to work/count just fine...but what do I know (and truthfully I don't use it so I have no horse in the race).

This matters a lot right now since many are thinking of paying taxes by Plastiq. Including me.

You can pay taxes through other 3rd party sites with your credit card at a lower fee than Plastiq. See Frequent Miler's post on this http://frequentmiler.boardingarea.com/2018/02/19/pay-taxes-via-credit-card-2018-edition/ I used Pay1040 . com and it charged me 1.87% fee. ETA: it counted toward MSR on the AX BGR at the end of Dec 2017.

My state also allows taxes to be paid by credit card directly for a 2.3% fee, so maybe check and see if your state also allows this.

I’m going to be using Plastiq heavily to meet the MSR on DW’s SPG Biz, and I’m really contemplating throwing everything we’ve got on Plastiq to wrap up the spend in 1.5-2 months. I’d let you know if it works out, but the current 35k offer ends on 3/28/18, and I won’t be able to meet the spend that soon.

I'd love to knock it out this quickly too but may need closer to 2.5 mos *if* I can use plastiq. Without plastiq, I can't do it.

Now, that 3/28/18 date is just to apply by, right? Then you have 90 days?

Great post!

I’d agree if @GlamMistress or anyone else is skittish about Plastiq for taxes, there’s really no reason to pay your taxes through Plastiq if you’re using an Amex card. Plastiq charges a 2.5% fee, and the CIP is perfect for Plastiq because it earns 3x. Amex cards do not, and there’s concern whether Plastiq payments will even earn 1x on Amex cards under the new rules. If you’re paying with an Amex, use a different service that charges a lower fee than Plastiq.

Wow, thanks for all of the great advice. Yes, SouthFayette Fan, it's a bit overwhelming, but exciting! To answer some questions, yes, I've looked at my credit report through Credit Karma. I am 1/24 (I got my SW RR card 3/2017). I am also all set up with DISchurners.

Would it work if I cancelled my current SW card in 3/2019 (after anniversary reward points post) and then apply for both SW cards in 4/2019 to get the CP? I don't understand how DS getting a SW card could help with a companion pass. If it entails him getting the two cards, he definitely won't do that. I was just hoping to get the referral and for us to have his bonus RR points.

I don't spend much other than food, gas and things that DS needs. I don't think I'd be able to do the 7,000 spend in 3 months for the double dip. I'll have to really look at upcoming expenses to see if there's any way possible to do that right now.

Would the CIP be difficult for me to get? I have sold some things on amazon in the past. I may be able to swing 5,000 spend in 3 months now. After that maybe I could do the CSP/CSR double dip (college expenses by then) and put DS on the CSP as an AU for the 5,000 additional UR. Then the SW cards next year? Should I do a PC to the no AF Disney or do I have to cancel it to get the no AF card with $200 statement credit (I know.... but I JUST CAN'T LET GO OF IT!)? Does it count toward my 5/24?

Sorry, so many questions! In all of this I would like to still consider the SPG. I'm not sure how that would fit in.

Thanks again, everyone! I wouldn't be able to do this without all of you!

I would apply for the CIP but make sure you haven’t applied for any cards in the last 30 days and you are under 5/24. Once you get your CIP then you can apply for another card. The CIP doesn’t count towards you 5/24. As for the Disney make sure you don’t want other chase cards. If you don’t then you can use a spot on the no AF. DH just got his CIP and it took about a week to get a response. Then 5 days for the Card to come in the mail. Good luck applying:-)

I got 3,000 for $3,000 up to $6,000. Not sure what I can do with it since I have to spend $7,000 on my spg biz by 6/1!

I am considering upgrading to the Disney Visa Premier after holding the No Annual Fee card for 10 years. Would my account show as a new account or would it show as being a 10 year card holder?
Does that count as a new card with Chase (when it comes to the 5/24 thing)?

Question about 5/24. What is the difference between the 5/24 application rule and the 5/24 status rule with regard to business cards?

You're young and just married - you guys should be fun and spontaneous!! :) We have 2 kids (one in school and one soon to be) and numerous other family members with kids/priorities of their own who we coordinate trips with, lol! Planning trips 2 years out is a both a gift and a burden LOL!

Well we now plan to be out of town 5 of the next 8 weekends, how's that?

If you're just product changing your no fee card to the premier, it'll continue being a 10 year old account.

Question about 5/24. What is the difference between the 5/24 application rule and the 5/24 status rule with regard to business cards?

Chase's 5/24 rule looks at how many credit card accounts with any bank, issuer, and sometimes stores, you've opened in the past 24 months. These are cards that you've opened in the past 24 months that have been reported to the credit bureaus and appear on your personal credit reports. The addition of you as an authorized user to a credit card can also show on your credit report and, if so, would count against how many accounts have been opened in the past 24 months.

If you have 5 or more accounts opened in the past 24 months, this will affect which cards you will be approved for by Chase. You have to be under 5/24 (have less than 5 accounts opened in the past 24 months) to be approved for the following Chase cards:
  • Chase Freedom
  • Chase Freedom Unlimited
  • Chase Sapphire Preferred
  • Chase Sapphire Reserve
  • Chase Slate
  • Chase Ink Cash
  • Chase Ink Preferred
  • Chase Southwest Plus personal card
  • Chase Southwest Premier personal card
  • Chase Southwest Premier business card
  • Chase Marriott Premier personal card
  • Chase United MileagePlus Club Card
  • Chase United MileagePlus Club Business Card
  • Chase United MileagePlus Explorer personal card
  • Chase United MileagePlus Explorer business card
Thus, it is usually recommended that if you are still under 5/24, apply for the above cards first with any available slot up to your 5th slot in the past 24 months period. [Note some cards do not count against a 5/24 slot, as discussed below.] If you are over 5/24, expect a denial letter for these cards.

You can still get the following Chase cards if you are over 5/24, so it's usually recommended not to take up a "5/24 slot" by applying for these cards until you are over 5/24:
  • Chase IHG
  • Chase Hyatt
  • Chase British Airways
  • Chase Disney
  • Chase Marriott Premier business card
  • Chase Ritz-Carlton
  • Chase Amazon
  • Chase AARP
For more information about the 5/24 rule: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/chas...ow/#What_Cards_Count_Towards_The_5_Card_Limit

Chase (and other credit card issuers) have become increasingly sensitive to "churning" behavior, and there have been reports of people's accounts being frozen pending financial review for "hitting" Chase too hard, too fast, i.e., applying for a lot of cards in a short period of time. So the recommendation is to "slow your roll" with Chase by spacing out your applications for Chase credit cards. One way to do this, without missing out on putting big expenses or regular spend on new credit cards for new signup bonuses is to apply for Amex and Chase business cards in between Chase personal cards that are subject to the 5/24 rule. [ETA: @miztressuz is right that some Chase business cards are still subject to the 5/24 rule in that you have to be under 5/24 to be approved, but opening the business card will not add to your 5/24 count.]

Amex and Chase do not report their business cards to your personal credit report, so they don't show up on your reports and don't count against your 5/24 status. So you can space business cards in between personal cards to stretch out the time in between each personal credit card application, without the business cards taking a slot away from any other 5/24 card you'd want to add to your wallet, or missing out on bonuses from the business cards along the way.

[ETA: Citi does not report business cards to your personal credit report; Capital One and Discover do report. Conflicting reports on Barclaycard. https://www.doctorofcredit.com/which-business-credit-cards-report/]

I had both cards at one time. I still have the no fee. There was no reason to get rid of it.

The fee card was just costing me money (the fee) as I was not using it as I have better value cards that I use. Others here will soon answer your questions specifically, but, I'm pretty sure the upgrade would keep you as a ten year card holder. Not sure if they would count the upgrade in your 5/24.

Question about 5/24. What is the difference between the 5/24 application rule and the 5/24 status rule with regard to business cards?

My short answer, there are some business cards that require you to be under 5/24 to be approved BUT won't count against your 5/24 status. @Lain 's wonderful post has the list of cards that require it or don't (he's so fast! :))

As he said Chase and Amex may not report business cards to your personal credit report, but I recall others on here saying some other issuers might. So best to research the biz card you want to see where it may stand on the issue.

I just realized that I made a payment on eBay using PayPal ($95) and then a friends and family transaction to pay for part of a DVC points transfer ($309) using my Amex SPG. So do these Amex rules mean those transactions aren't going to count toward my minimum spend requirement? I got my card in January and these transactions were made last week. Probably should have done the DVC transfer payment as goods and services or do we think it doesn't matter and PayPal won't count either way?

Can you park in the driveway or street for a few days?
We have my dd home for spring break, so 4 cars in a 3 car garage and 10 inches of snow coming today LOL, so no. Street parking not allowed in the winter. We have cars trapped in and out of the garage :-)

I just cannot meet the MSR on the SPG 7k offer unless I can use plastiq. I really, really want the SPG biz and I wish I had the extra money to just prepay stuff but we don't. We have spent about $15-18k OOP each year the last three years on medical bills for one kiddo and I do not want to 'tap' savings anymore. My dh would not be happy. He plays nice with all this but he wouldn't be happy with that. I either meet SPG biz spend with plastiq or it's just a no-go for us :(

Gonna read through the DOC post to see what is being said.
I've been in this position before (most days lol) we don't have a huge income, so I tend to keep things safe. I have no choice, bc my DH has no problem with my 'games' as long as we don't jeopardize our actual income/outgo. So there are many cards I don't take advantage of bc I just don't have the extra $$ to play with, and I want to stay far away from any issues with meeting a spend I can't make. That is one big reason that I'm not crying over getting the spgbiz a couple of weeks ago,I'd LOVE the extra points, and they're great deal, but that extra 2k just isn't happening for us right now. So i'm content with my offer.(this time of year is always tighter for us due to taxes, etc etc)

Random UR question. We have the Alaska card (BoA) and it comes with an annual companion pass that can be used with paid fare. My understanding is that tickets purchased through the UR portal look appear as paid fares to the airlines (and even earn miles), but would booking through that portal mean I couldn't use that companion fare? Or is there a way to do it and I just can't figure it out because I've never used URs? Just trying to do some thinking ahead about card strategy.
