I love credit cards so much!

As I play catch up and remembering that I asked about opening a business card, I see this. Definitely one of those Delta biz cards look appealing. But just to be straight that if I went for one of those while being at 5/24 (though I go back and forth questioning that too) it won't interfere with my applying for the CSR in June this year?

I applied for the Delta Platinum Business in January and it has never showed up on my report. (Delta hostage and wanted most miles and a companion certificate). My understanding is that only Capital One business cards are the ones that show up on reports and jeopardize 5/24 status.

Huh. I see the Amex Mercedes-Benz Platinum will be discontinued January 2019. It has a 60,000 MR signup bonus. My personal Platinum is up for renewal this month. I guess if I don't get a really good retention bonus, the MBZ Platinum will be in the pipeline...

I got my first ever spg referral bonus on my SPG biz today, I have a feeling it was someone here so thank you fellow disney churner! (I'm also sad if you are one of the one's that jumped just a couple days too soon and hope so much you get some courtesy points from amex!!)

On a kind of glass half empty/glass half full note to end my week, I found out there's at least $300 more in repairs to my car. I should have the MSR on my Marriott Biz done by Monday. I was approved for that card on 2/2. How in the world did I spend $3,000 in a month?

Interesting. I'll be getting rid of my Plat in May when the fee comes around again. The spend for the 60k points is $5k which isn't heinous but not great either.

So you probably won't hear anything back from AMEX - that's been my experience. I would call back in 2 weeks and basically tell them that the person you last spoke to put in for it but it never posted. By taking an assumptive approach that they approved it you may get somebody to push it through.

Thanks for this advice. Will definitely give it a shot. I'm nothing if not persistent, lol.

@Albort sorry to ask again, but were you staying/stayed at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina, that had the lounge and you did the best rate guarantee? Plans might be changing around here...
stayed, had lounge, did brg.

waived Resort Fee. parking was $32 a night though. can a little noise due to airport proximity, great plane spotting. great place walking area. no good transportation.

anything else u need to know?

I've had my eyes on a WDW F&W trip this year towards the end of the festival. I'm almost gonna be able to make it between credit cards and bank bonuses and a couple referrals as of right now so I'm feeling good about getting the ball rolling. I've an idea of what I'm looking at for airfare (freaking DL and their ever changing award charts- I'm onto your wily ways DL!... I hope...) so I go to double check the festival isn't ending early this year- and find out dates have not been released. All my other ducks are lining up- WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME DISNEY?!!
ETA: I just realized this has nothing to do with credit cards except that I wouldn't have a chance of being able to make this trip happen without them so I guess this is more an "i love credit cards and you guys" + need to vent post :D

Wow what an amazing community right? I asked a question and viola I get a plethora of information to start me out. Admittedly I’m not sure if this is for me yet but hey I like Learning new angles. Fortunately I have zero credit card debt right now and when I do use any of my cards I pay them immediately.

Lots to read and learn. Thanks for everyone’s replies and posts to links.

I know most of it seems overwhelming. Don't let that discourage you. It is total information overload. You are already the perfect candidate for this hobby. No credit card, pay in full each month. You can take it slow and ease you way in as you get more comfortable. I was in your shoes once too and not certain if this was right for me either. I will tell you that this hobby completely changed my life. I am very glad that I allowed my desire to see Scotland back in 2012 overcame my over embarking into this new hobby. We are all here for you and don't mind holding someone's hand to help them along.

I have a question and I have to admit that I'm behind in reading lately. I've followed this thread from the beginning, reading basically every day, but I got a promotion at work and my mom got diagnosed with Cancer, both have taken a huge amount of time on my part, so I've been neglecting the disboards :guilty:.

Anyway, DD1 is on a study abroad trip and DH and I have decided to meet her at the end of her voyage, so we are flying into Hamburg Germany. I have found what I consider to be our ideal flight - leaves from our home airport (STL) at 7:50 pm and arrives in Hamburg (HAM) late afternoon the next day, which would get us there for the next morning when DD arrives.

My issue is that it's on American Airlines - when I look at their website I can find the flight for 30,000 miles one way, but I don't have any direct AA miles. I have plenty of transferable points from Chase, Citi and AmEx, but from all the reading I've done, I don't see how they can transfer to AA. I did read a bit about transferring to BA and booking through them, but it sounds like there are always large fuel charges for transatlantic flights and when I go the BA website, it doesn't show the flight I was looking for as available anyway.

Anyway, I guess I'm just trying to verify that I"m correct that AA is probably out for our flight and that I'm going to have to go with plan B and transfer my points to another airline and take an earlier flight. It's definitely not the end of the world, but I was hoping to be able to work the full day before we took our flight. This way, I'm going to have to leave early, but it will all work out in the end.

Thanks so much for any advice and back to page 756 where I last read from!

AA hostage that books BA with AA and vice versa all the time chiming in here for you! :wave2:

For AA direct transfer, SPG is the only option. Now, you could transfer Chase UR to Marriott and then transfer Marriott to SPG but you would need 75K UR to Marriott then the 75K Marriott to get 25K SPG which would give you 30K to AA. Have you looked at the OOP cost for the flight. It might be less in points to pay for it with UR in the travel portal. 30K is a saver award level for that flight so it should be bookable on BA. I tried looking for your 7:50 pm flight to see if I can help you sort it out but was unable to find it at the saver lever. If you connect through London, you will pay a LOT in taxes and fees with BA. You're looking at nearly $200 each way for economy tix. If you see the flight as a saver award on AA, you can call BA and give them the flight numbers and info and they can book it.

United has 30K save award flights flight and their taxes and fees are around $30. UR transfers to United instantly.

HAHAHA I read "stayed, had lounge, did brig". And I thought "brig?! what in the world goes down at that Sheraton?! is it like an experience type thing?"... I eventually re-read your post but this was too good not to share.

My personal Platinum AF will hit this month. I'm inclined to do the same -- cancel. Then apply for the MBZ Platinum.

I'd like to fish for a retention offer, but I kind of don't want eyes on my Platinum account. If I can get something like a 30k MR no spend attached offer, I'd be really tempted to keep my personal Platinum to save myself a */24 slot and the extra spend. I checked, and I put over $25,000 spend on the Platinum this past year, but a lot of that was MPX 5x. And it's not like I'm hurting for open slots for Chase cards. I'll be 2/24 in April, and another card drops off in December.

And if I keep the personal Platinum, I'll miss out on ever getting the 60,000 MR on the MBZ. The folks at /r/churning noticed this language in the MBZ offer: "This offer is not valid for existing Platinum Card Members from American Express." So it looks like I wouldn't be approved for the MBZ Platinum if I kept my personal Platinum open, or at least not get the bonus. I agree that 60,000 MR is alright, but has value because those points are being taken off the table forever. I'm not looking forward to putting $5k spend on a card with bonus categories of such limited use.

Yes! Plastiq absolutely would work for a contractor and they even advertise that on its homepage. Unlike mortgages, paying a contractor is not restricted on any of the credit card networks (Visa, MC, Amex, or Discover). If he can invoice you (and is willing to accept payment by check in the mail in about 8-10 business days), you can use Plastiq to pay him.

So yes, it’s just like writing your contractor a check, except you’re paying Plastiq with your credit card to write him a check. You’d set your contractor up as a new recipient and probably categorize the business as “other,” since I can’t think what other category would fit. Keep in mind that when you’re making a payment to a new recipient for the first time, Visa cards have a tendency to treat it as a cash advance. So (1) you should send a secure message to Chase on your CIP account (or whatever Visa account you’re planning to use) requesting that they lower your cash advance limit to the lowest amount possible (I believe it’s $200) so when you try to make any payment more than that, it’ll get rejected if it codes as a cash advance; and (2) establish a “relationship” with the new recipient, your contractor, by using another kind of card, like your Amex Platinum, to make a small — let’s call it a “deposit” — payment of like $100. Once you’ve paid your new recipient, your contractor is in the system, and you shouldn’t have any more trouble with cash advances on a Visa.

Wow... $60k in planned spend. So many points there! There’s no limit on Plastiq’s side that I’m aware of. I know you plan to trim that amount by buying a lot of things yourself, e.g. on your Amex Platinum to work on that MSR. But still, even if you have $30k, or $40k left, that’s 3x UR on the CIP for 90k-120k UR. (Keep checking in to this thread for recent DPs on how CIP codes on Plastiq, especially before you make any payment! I’d hate for you to make a payment if you won’t get 3x anymore.) and yes, the only limit would be the credit limit on your CIP. So the thing you would have to do is (1) have the contractor bill you in installments; (2) break up the bill into separate checks, and basically pay down your CIP credit card balance in between each check to make the next one (this is called cycling, and it’s generally thought that done in excessive amounts or frequency could trigger a shutdown and/or financial review); or (3) consider signing up for multiple cards (!!!) like the Delta AND SPG Biz, and pay that big bill using Plastiq on three or more cards, e.g., the CIP up to its limit, then hit the MSR for the Delta and SPG Biz!

If you plan to use Plastiq, please consider signing up through a DISchurner’s link. This will give you $500 “fee free dollars” — basically, Plastiq will waive the fee on your second $500 spent through them after you’ve made your first $500 in payments.

Wow, I never thought I’d get so much kick out of spending $60k of someone else’s money.

ETA: Another option for payment might be Venmo. It’s a peer-to-peer payment app like PayPal (in fact, PayPal owns Venmo) that allows you to send money to friends, family, people you owe money to like your contractor. Venmo charges a transaction fee of 3% (compared to Plastiq’s 2.5%), but also earns 3x UR on the CIP. So basically, the points negate the fee, and you’re essentially paying the amount of the fee into your “vacation account.” If you can get your contractor to accept Venmo, this might be a backup if anything with Plastiq changes.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I can't tell you how much I was not looking forward to spending the money, I was kind of dragging my feet because I didn't want to part with it lol. Your enthusiasm for me spending my money is contagious lol. I signed up earlier this week for Plastiq through DISchurner's using one of my all time favorite Dis buddy's link :wave2:. I like the idea of applying for SPG Biz and Delta Plat Biz but I just applied for and received AMEX Plat (100k targeted offer) and for Discover it (have not received that card yet). It was instant approval for both so that gives me a little hope. Do I dare apply for either or both of those two cards so soon? Thanks again for the help and motivation!

Well, if it makes you feel any better, Amex generally doesn’t report a new card to the credit agencies until the close of your second statement, so you’ve got about two months where your credit report won’t show your new Platinum. Remember for Amex, they’ll approve only 1 credit card in a rolling 5 day period, and 2 credit cards in 90 days. You can have a max of 5 open Amex credit cards. Charge cards like the Platinum don’t count. Test your luck with the SPG Biz whenever you’re ready! $60k in contractor work is just too much spend to put on just the Platinum and CIP.

I have just skimmed over the discussion about the AmEx SPG offer that has been all the rage, but it has finally caught my attention. I am currently at 6/24, but will be at 4/24 at the end of this month and don't want to jeopardize that because I have plans to apply for the CIP and then double dip the CSP and CSR. Am I correct that it will not count against me if I apply for the AmEx SPG business card? I've never accumulated Starwood points, but it looks like they transfer to Marriott at a 3:1 rate?

Any other words of wisdom before I pull the trigger?

Make sure the $7K spend won't mess up your other plans.

This is a super valuable offer. If the $7k min spend isn't an issue then you won't regret it. :D good luck!
