I just realized a decent size purchase I'll have in the next week and a half. Has anyone updated their Delta Gold Biz link? It looked like they were all old offers.

I'd like to apply tonight.

ETA - Clarification.

I’ve been traveling but will update my link for the Gold within a couple of hours.

My updated referral link for the Delta Gold Biz with the increased sign-up offer is up on the DISChurners Reddit thread for Amex referral links.

i havent see any positive DP on matching the 60k as AF is not waived vs AF waived for the first year. Things could change though. CI+ was a good example that i know. they went from 60k-->70k, but the only way to get 70k was to apply in branch. It took about a week or so of a ton of ppl messaging chase to be matched, they finally gave in and anyone who applied within the 3 months got matched to 70k. I hope thats the case with the CSP.
i heard Amex is very strict on matching... they arent as willing as Chase is.

I was planning to offer to pay the AF for the increased sign-up bonus on the CIP. I'm still going to give it a shot. Amex too.

@Calfan, Amex doesn't "match" offers, but they do offer "courtesy points." There have been several DPs today of people getting 3k SPG points as a courtesy. Be insistent, escalate your complaint to a manager, emphasize your relationship with Amex and you might get some courtesy too.

ETA: I just realized I'm talking about SPG Biz DPs and you have the Delta Biz Gold. But the same idea applies!

I figured it would be similar. I realize I'll need to offer to do the additional minimum spend for the increased sign-up miles, but I'm going to give it a shot and see what happens. Even if I can get a few more Delta miles as a courtesy, that will be something. Not counting on anything. But I'm certainly not going to get anything if I don't try. I used all organic spend to meet the minimum spend, so I'm not worried about Amex looking closely at my account.

My updated referral link for the Delta Gold Biz with the increased sign-up offer is up on the DISChurners Reddit thread for Amex referral links.

Thank you! Instant approval! Also excited, I didn't realize you had to do the additional $1k in spend within the first 6 months to get the additional 10k in miles, that's a lot easier to do.

Also guessing since this is my first amex card that this message is a bunch of baloney - You will receive your new Card(s) by mail at the home address you provided within 2-3 business days.

ETA the email says 7 to 10 days. Nice consistency between the website and email.

Sorry for such a huge post so late at night, but I finally just got all my thoughts together (as you'll see if you keep reading, I tend to overthink things... drives hubby crazy)

I'm looking for advice on jumping into this points game full time. Cashback has been mostly my focus as it never felt like we could earn enough points to make using them worthwhile. Since we do 1 bigger trip each year, the cashback saved up since the last trip is used for this trip. So far I only have a CF for UR points, and we have a AmEx Green and Everyday card for MR points.

I’m in a little application paralysis but need to get something started soon as I have some home improvement projects coming up that I can use to meet minimum spends. Here goes:

Short term Goal: Anniversary Alaska cruise trip Sep 2019. We’ll do a 7 night northbound cruise starting in Vancouver, so we’re planning 2 nights pre-cruise Vancouver, 2-3 nights post cruise Alaska, fly back to the west coast for another 2 or 3 nights somewhere (probably California but so many choices even there) before heading home. Since we’re doing Alaska at the end of the season not sure if we want to stay there longer yet, so we’re flexible still.

Long term Goals: Amass some flexible points for bucket list trips. We’re not sure exactly the order but every couple years we’d like to do a big trip to see the sights while we’re still young enough to really enjoy it. I have a personal goal to step foot on every continent, we have a whopping 2 down so far :)

Things like, Antarctica (@calypso726 I am so looking forward to a recap of your trip, NatGeo is on my short list of options), Hawaii, Rhine or Danube river cruise, Panama Canal cruise, British isles tour (with possible layover in Iceland), snorkel/dive the Great Barrier Reef, etc etc

What we have so far is
  • SW points to get back and forth from east coast to west coast
  • IHG and Marriott for various hotel nights
  • Norwegian for some OBC and shore excursion credits
  • Discover it card cashback match (completes 12/18)

What I think we need is
  • A nice place to experience Alaska (not just the cheapest IHG room I can find )
  • Flights from Alaska back to lower 48
  • Depending on where in CA we decide on, might want to stay at an experience (like DL maybe :p)
  • How to do tours or meals (is there any values out there other than cashback?)

1. Was interested in the CSR/CSP double dip as with the projects I could pull off 2-3 cards in the same period. But since I don’t really need the CSR right away is it a wasted slot/AF? Original plan was to do it later this year so the trip next year was included in the one AF. Aside from who knows what will happen in the future, what’s the disadvantage to doing just a CSP now and then keeping a slot open for hubby to do a CSR later in the year? Not sure we’d have the spend later this year for both so I don’t think we can both double dip (but I hate missing out on both bonuses) I had toyed with my double dip now, then see where the landscape is next year and get one (or both) sapphires for hubby then. I’d keep one and downgrade the other to a CFU so we only have one CSR at a time.

2. I’m also interested in getting the CIP. Is the 80k bonus fairly common? Is this this something we should think about sooner rather than later to capitalize on that? I have no biz cards, we only dabble in “businessy” things, but I am thinking about making it more formal and opening an Etsy shop to attract a better class of buyers.

3. Those Hilton cards are tempting. I wouldn’t mind adding a third hotel brand into our repertoire. And since we have 2 stays in May booked at Hilton properties, I was thinking of getting hubby to sign up for one of them beforehand (he has the existing Hilton account we booked the stays under). Still deciding which but something with the 100K option. I’m assuming the offer is so good because they are new, how long do you think that would last best educated guestimate?

4. I’d also like some SPG cards since we already have a decent Marriott account going, I think earning some SPG bonuses would be helpful long term for both that and travel in general. I was thinking of getting a Marriott for myself at some point and pool the points. But again, how soon should we jump on this given the SPG landscape changing, try to squeeze in now or see what the new products do?

Initial thoughts was to do the CSR/CSP for me and get hubby to do a Hilton now. That’s probably all we can safely do at once as most places will take a deposit for large projects on credit but like the balance in cash. Then look at some biz cards like CIP or SPG, Marriott to keep some slots open. What am I missing? Should we look at this in another way and go for cards that might not be around later first? Is there an advantage to picking out any airline cards for the flight back from Alaska or about the same using UR, MR or maybe SPG points for that?

TL;DR Paralyzed, Help! What should I apply for first?

Ok - so there was A LOT in your post...I'm just going to address a couple of things...
  • I'd REALLY think hard about passing up the CSP/CSR double dip...you have an opportunity for BOTH of you to do that...once you apply for one card and not the other you're locked out for 24 months though. I'd just hate to see you regret that later...Also you may want to wait a couple of months to see if an increase CSR offer comes along which could affect your decision on this. There are some loose rumors out there right now that with the increase on the CSP that an increase to CSR may follow.
  • This SPG Business offer that came out is PHENOMENAL. 35k points for $7k spend is the best this offer has been since March of 2016...2 years! You could take advantage of that without affecting your 5/24 status. Also...if one of you go the SPG biz you could then refer the other to it and take home over 92k SPG points (of course you'd have to hit the $14k spend to do that).
  • One added comment for the road - I'd guess those Hilton offers aren't going anywhere anytime soon. They seem to be pretty standard/fair offers, that's all speculation but that's how I see it.
Good luck with whatever you decide! I'm sure others will have some helpful viewpoints as well.

I thought they looked great too but many I checked had a 30 day minimum stay - at least for NYC.
Ok glad I didn't apply for the Hyatt. Every unit I checked was at least twice as much if not more than the $$ they quoted under the pic, plus $190 for cleaning. But you could do short stays.

Thank you! Instant approval! Also excited, I didn't realize you had to do the additional $1k in spend within the first 6 months to get the additional 10k in miles, that's a lot easier to do.

Congrats! I did receive my AMEX Plat in 3 business days. I'm itching to go for the Delta Plat Biz

I feel like I am not so great at figuring out the order of cards. I don't even know what to get DH next. Ha! But here are my general thoughts on the Alaska trip...

I'd probably try and do the cruise portion via the UR cruise dept. To do that, you will want to have a CSR. So getting a CIP/CSP/CSR will get you a ton of points. You could refer your hubs as well. I'm not sure about if that is hitting chase too hard/what order/etc. I just know that would be alot of UR points! The Hilton card could work for one of the hotel stays (Alaska or Cali). My tip is that the 5th night is free for honors silver, gold, diamond...so use those for your longer stay. Flights from cali to home on southwest points maybe. And possibly consider SW points to Seattle and the train to Vancouver. (that is my plan for next summer.) I'm not sure what your best bet is for flights Alaska to home...maybe get the SPG and transfer points to airline. Well, those are the cards I would consider. Someone more professional now can maybe come along with better ideas or help you with the best order in which to obtain the cards. Don't forget to have DH sign up through your referral links for his cards and vice versa.

Ok I'm going to add another thought...

When you're ready to go for URs you should do something like this:
Player 1: CSR/CSP double dip...meet both min spends
Player 2: CIP...meet min spend
Player 1: referred to CIP by Plyr2...meet min spend
Player 2: referred to CSR/CSP double dip by Plyr1...meet both min spends

You'll end up with something in the neighborhood of 440,000 URs! This would be $26,000 in combined minimum spends so it could keep you busy for a long time and you'd have no risk of Chase shutdown as your alternate between players.

So I’ve been out of town for a week and just finished catching up on the pages and pages of this thread that I missed while I was gone. What I’ve learned is that my timing is terrible, lol. Got the CSP for my DH in early Feb. with the 50k bonus. Just met minimum spend this week. Going to SM Chase to see if he can get the extra 10k points. And I got the Delta Biz Gold for myself last month with the 30k bonus. The minimum spend was only $1k, which I’ve met, but I’m going to SM Amex to see if I can get the higher bonus if I meet the higher minimum spend. Excited to see the 35k SPG Biz is live. That’s going to be my next app.
It happens!! On the bright side you will nail the SPG Biz bonus!

8K + 5k + 5k +8k = $26,000 minimum spendings... its a pretty penny... haha

There is a lot of questions in your post and I cannot give advice for all but I'd like to really encourage you to double dip the CSP/CSR if you can pull off the MSR. For us, UR have been really valuable. We got my dh the CSR and the month before he went under 5/24, Chase changed the rules on getting both the cards. I so wish we had the option to double-dip. I love the CSR. The ability to redeem at 25% more than the CSP can be a huge difference in your points cost. And after the $300 travel credit, there is only $55 difference in annual fees. Really something to think about!

Again, I love UR so CIP is another card I highly suggest for both you and your hubby. The 80k seems to be the norm but we all know with Chase, things can change quickly. I'm pretty sure it was less a couple of years ago.

If I were in your shoes, I'd double dip the CSR/CSP first and then once you have met that spend, I'd move to the CIP. I've found the UR points so flexible. Then rinse and repeat with using each other's referral links :)

You will not regret that 35k SPG Biz! Also - glad you got your Delta Biz Gold link up, I noticed you were the only other person that had one but I had removed mine since I maxed out the referrals. Have at it - get yourself some points, haha!!

DUDE! I just realized something awesome...I can go under 5/24 in February of 2019 if I don't get another personal card!! I had been so focused on my wife being under 5/24 in April of this year and wasn't totally comprehending that I was within a year of that myself...I even think I kind of realized it but wasn't grasping how close 2019 really is. I've gotten 4 AMEX Biz cards in the past 12 months so while it hadn't felt like I slowed down...I really was :) This is a huge epiphany for a guy who has opened 37 cards in the past 3 years and is currently 26/24 :D but yes I have 22 cards falling off in the next 11 months, haha!

Love it!!! Congrats! So, what will be the first card for you? You don't have the CSR yet, right?

Likely CIP... our strategy is basically this:

Just completed: AMEX delta Biz gold
Current card: AMEX blue Biz plus
4/18: wife CIP
7/18: AMEX Biz (player and card TBD)
10/18: wife CSP/CSR double dip
1/19: wife CIC
4/19: me CIP (with wife referral)
