Hi all, been following along for a bit...I got an AMEX SPG about a year ago, coming up on my AF, called today and got an retention offer for 1500 spend in 3 months and 7000 points, wondering if this is likely the best retention offer I will get or if I should call back in a week or so and see if there is anything else? Thanks!

thats the standard offer, the best offer for amex spg right now that ive seen is 10k, no strings attached. YMMV.

So I’ve been out of town for a week and just finished catching up on the pages and pages of this thread that I missed while I was gone. What I’ve learned is that my timing is terrible, lol. Got the CSP for my DH in early Feb. with the 50k bonus. Just met minimum spend this week. Going to SM Chase to see if he can get the extra 10k points. And I got the Delta Biz Gold for myself last month with the 30k bonus. The minimum spend was only $1k, which I’ve met, but I’m going to SM Amex to see if I can get the higher bonus if I meet the higher minimum spend. Excited to see the 35k SPG Biz is live. That’s going to be my next app.

The $5 went pending on my cc right away. I got the email yesterday afternoon asking for copy of the invoice with payment type, amt due, and acct number. It says "your payment is under review." Says will be refunded the $5 payment if don't provide the info.

ETA: I wonder if it is because the mtg is in DHs name and plastique/the cc are in mine. Maybe I should change the account holder name to mine. It still has the account number, so I am sure the bank will figure it out.

I’ve paid my parents car loans for them (to get the points) and my younger brother’s rent recently and everything went through it appears just fine. I made sure to put their name along with the account numbers in the memo lines and everything has posted by the recipients with no issues so far. So Plastiq certainly doesn’t seem to enforce that.

After what I went through with DH and his Delta platinum Amex I don’t know guys; I would be super hesitant to do anything to catch their attention.

Big difference with Delta Platinum is the companion certificate. Not just the higher mileage bonus. After first year you get a companion certificate for flying companion inside US. I use that all the time to get 5 of us to MCO. A friend of mine uses hers every year to go to NYC. The $100 statement credit helps alleviate the first fee.

Good to know thanks! Does the Delta Biz qualify for the CP and higher mileage bonus also?

IMPORTANT AMERICAN EXPRESS "DISchurners" UPDATE
New offers out today - AND update your links on DISchurners as all are available through a support link:
- SPG Biz 35k / $7k
- Delta Plat Biz 70k + $100 / $3k
- Delta Plat 70k + $100 / $3k
- Delta Gold Biz 60k + $50 / $3k (50k for $2k + 10k for add'l $1k)
- Delta Gold 60k + $50 / $3k (50k for $2k + 10k for add'l $1k)

I know we have an obsession about SPG business around here...but those Delta offers are EXCELLENT historical offers for those interested...
I set up my AMEX Plat this AM and accepted the extended payment option, I hope that wasn't a mistake. I am confused on which are charge vs credit. It feels like I just converted my charge card to a credit card by accepting that option.? Am I ok to apply for the Delta Plat Biz so soon after getting the AMEX Plat? If not what would be a good cooling off period? Thanks!

Anyone have advice on this situation?

I got my daughter concert tickets and the concert was canceled and they refunded the money back
to my Amex which i used to make initial spend (300). I just checked and without that my 1k
spend drops to about 800 . They already gave me the bonus. What should i do? Charge something
fast so they don't claw bonus back?

Oh no... did the extended payment option have a 10k MR offer attached? If not, you probably should have ignored the option and waited. Amex has a tendency of sending out targeted offers of 10k MR to get cardmembers to sign up for Pay Over Time. But if you're already signed up, you won't get targeted and you won't get those extra points. It's a rookie mistake I made with my PRG, so I held out on my Platinum. After almost a year having the Platinum, I finally got a targeted mailer with the 10k MR offer last weekend and signed up.

As for applications, Amex will approve you for only 1 credit card in a 5 day rolling period and 2 approved credit cards every 90 rolling period. This rule applies to credit cards, not charge cards, so you should be good to go for a Delta credit card.

When do you have to meet your MSR? If you've still got time, I would definitely make a purchase to bring your spend back over the MSR.

My BGR keeps giving me this option. I've not taken it. What exactly is it? Does it just make the card a 'credit' vs a 'charge' card?

I feel like having a party :yay:! I *finally* met the MSR on my BGR!! What finally pushed me over is my dd17's theater group all wanted to go see 'Greatest Showman' (for the hundredth time), and since I have the amc stubbs membership, I offered to buy all the tickets and the kids just pay me back. Twenty-one $10 tickets later, I'm done! Only had like $50 more to go. I was gonna just grab a GC this weekend and call it a day but this came up before :) Now I gotta knock out my dh's SPG in about a month. I think there is only like $1500 to go though so should be ok. And then I can get a new card

I just realized a decent size purchase I'll have in the next week and a half. Has anyone updated their Delta Gold Biz link? It looked like they were all old offers.

I'd like to apply tonight.

ETA - Clarification.

You have my sympathies! Fortunately, the 35k bonus on the SPG Biz is about as good as it gets.

Luck is a big part of the game -- hoping a high offer comes along and is available when you're ready for a new card, and that card fits into your budget and overall strategy. The hard part is the patience and restraint while you wait for these offers, if they ever come around again. My wife is a reluctant second player, so I try to be familiar with historical high offers on the cards I want us to get. I hold off when the offer is low, and when the offer is high then it makes my job selling her on applying a lot easier. The fact that these offers are once every 24 months, or even once per lifetime helps keep me from being too impulsive even if it means sitting on the sidelines a little.

I looked earlier too and only saw old offers as well. Hopefully, we see new links soon as I am thinking this might be my next card also :)

i havent see any positive DP on matching the 60k as AF is not waived vs AF waived for the first year. Things could change though. CI+ was a good example that i know. they went from 60k-->70k, but the only way to get 70k was to apply in branch. It took about a week or so of a ton of ppl messaging chase to be matched, they finally gave in and anyone who applied within the 3 months got matched to 70k. I hope thats the case with the CSP.
i heard Amex is very strict on matching... they arent as willing as Chase is.

If you decide to go for more miles and the Delta Platinum Business i updated mine.

Only the Delta Platinum has the 70k and companion pass. Delta gold does not. I guess you could try and apply and see. I don’t know how long they would expect you to wait.

Honestly just to be safe I would get it back out and make some more purchases for the equivalent amount. Sounds like Amex has been known to take back bonuses.

Don't take the offer! Wait for a bonus to enroll!

Basically, charge cards have to be paid off in full every month so Amex doesn't earn interest fees on these cards. Pay Over Time or Extended Payment Option allows you to carry a balance on certain charges, I believe, over $100, and it's a way for Amex to potentially collect interest on those balances. If you never carry a balance, there's no harm in signing up (as there's no hard pull either). But there's also no benefit when you know that Amex periodically targets accounts with a 10k MR points offer to sign up for Pay Over Time or Extended Payment Option. So just wait for a bonus. Keep declining the offer, and Amex will target you eventually.

@Calfan, Amex doesn't "match" offers, but they do offer "courtesy points." There have been several DPs today of people getting 3k SPG points as a courtesy. Be insistent, escalate your complaint to a manager, emphasize your relationship with Amex and you might get some courtesy too.

ETA: I just realized I'm talking about SPG Biz DPs and you have the Delta Biz Gold. But the same idea applies!

Thank you! We never carry a balance so I'm fine to keep hanging out and waiting for my targeted offer :)

Yes, that card was hard for me. I think just the mental knowledge that I had TWO Amex that needed 8k spend in *not quite* 4 mos was overwhelming. Especially since I wasn't using our mortgage. That's how I made our CIP spends so easily. Lots of medical helped but I still felt like I was just scraping the bottom of the barrel for expenses lol!

I saw your post a while back about getting the offer so I knew in the back of my head that I was probably forgoing a potential bonus offer. I'm going to use this card for kitchen and bathroom cabinets so the required spend will be wiped out in one swipe of the card. I expected that it would have to be paid in full but I liked the idea of having a little grace just in case.

Has anyone stayed in the Hyatt's Oasis properties? They look great and at a great rates. Wish I had the Hyatt card now :(
