I love credit cards so much!

I really want her to get her own card as she is a senior about to graduate. She is super responsible so no worries about over spending and not paying. What is an F and FU? Almost afraid to ask LOL:teeth:

But an AU is a great idea. I think I should do that for the younger siblings who are still in high school. I will only give them the card when I know they are going somewhere that they will need to use it.

Freedom and Freedom Unlimited.

My daughter charges alot to her card. If she were to be able to get a subpar student card it would likely have a minimal credit line...probably $1000 or maybe even $500. She has minimal income and short credit. She would basically max out the card each month and likely have to pay it weekly which would be a hassle. This would also cause her score to plummet due to utilization ratio. I want to get her own card too, in due time. At the moment I am concentrating on building up a credit history for her.

I am going just based of what kind of cards I was able to get on my own at her age. Things could've changed since then. Check with your bank and see if they have a student cc.

How do you do it by line like that? I only saw 1 line for address, then a city, state, zip. And a memo line. I ended up putting Attn: Cashier- Heritage USA as the company name. PO Box as street address, and then the rest as appropriate. (See the screen shot). Are you guys using the field for apt number or something?

ETA: The $5 test payment posted to my cc, so now will see if the bank calls me asking what in the world I am sending $5 for. ha!

I put the payee (company/person) under Recipient Name

Street address or PO Box under Recipient Street Address

The Attn: in the Apt, Suite, Bldg field.

Hope that works for you!

oh, ok. When I put Heritage bank under recipient it kicked it back as a mortgage payment. Hopefully it processes fine at the bank how I sent it. Should know in a few days.

Good luck with the surgery! I 'thanked' you with my plastiq account. I am guessing you won't see my 'gift' until I send a larger payment though. :-)Thanks for helping!

I know this is opinion only but YOu all seem to know more than I do.... as far as any shutdowns that might happen...what do ya'll think of this scenario? DH and I are (basically) in 2 player mode- I'm at 5/24 and counting:thumbsup2 I currently hold the CP good thru 12/2018- I also still have 2 open sw cc accts. Dh will be 3/24 by 12/2018,and my plan is 2 sw apps in 12/18 or 1/19 to get the CP for 2 years. And then hopefully after we finish that, a CSP for him. (it's been more than 2 yrs bonus) What do you think? Will it raise any flags? I'm leaving Dh's accts alone 100% until next Dec anyway. I can potentially do sw 1&2 in Dec/Jan- then do CSP in March(?)(but it's obvious mine are attached to his lol we're married) If things remain the same as far as getting cp,is this a decent plan?

Hello Everyone!
I am looking for the best card for a college student. I am thinking it would be better for them to take a credit card (rather than cash and debit card) on an upcoming spring break trip so I want to make a quick decision. Also, this will help build credit. I have been reading and doing research but WOW there is so much info out there that it’s hard to filter through it.
My dd got the Capital One Journey after her freshman year, she is a senior now. It does earn cash back, 1%, but it's going to be much easier to get than any of the other rewards cards on limited/no credit. I had both my kids on a couple of my cards for several years before they got their own cards, so that may have helped. She also got a Target redcard in her name on the same day. She has since gotten a Disney card in her own name, and has a score around 800 when I checked the other day. I have to assume some of that is due to the large amount of credit available to her by being an AU on my cards.

My college age kids have the Discover student card.

So if she's a senior I guess she has some income she can prove? Otherwise you may have to co-sign for it if she's still under 21. If she doesn't have any other debt on her credit report to build a risk profile I'd probably stick with cards designed for students as the first one. Once she establishes a history with that and maybe gets some higher income with that fancy degree the better rewards cards are possible. :teeth:

But there are still good student rewards cards, if she can be responsible and not over extend because of the rewards. Personally Discover and Citibank were two of my first cards (although, sadly, probably longer ago than is relevant now, hehe). Looks like both the Discover it cards have student versions, which get the same main benefits plus some. Might have to look into it more but the Good Grade Reward seems like it's a cashback bonus and the cashback bonus is matched on the first year so that sounds intriguing. https://www.discover.com/credit-cards/student

Citibank does a ThankYou points card for students. It's a Visa, I think, if you're concerned about wide acceptance (not sure where's she's headed for spring break). I think it's a little easier to get this one too and folks here have good things to say about ThankYou points. (but as I said, it's been a while since I got my citi student) But that does make me think, have you checked her credit score or report? Even with student cards there's thresholds the issuers set. Need at least a Fair score for most, and some might even need Good range. Otherwise you may have to look at secured cards, or co-sign.

Good luck with the surgery!

I do have to say I think there's a something a little off with us when we hear 'surgery' and think 'yes, I can get boatload of points for this!'
I was contemplating the other day how we should have looked into this game sooner as Mom could have had min spends on 2 cards down when she had her cataracts removed, one for each eye! Fortunately, and knock on wood, that was the last of her issues to be corrected so she'll have to do more mundane things like fix up the house when she gets ready to really start the travel hacking.

Good news! Two down, two to go. Those other two will be trickier but may be totally doable also.

Thanks - not sure how I'll do Chase and Wells . . . suggestions welcome!

Hope everything goes ok with your hubby's surgery!

I put DH's new CIP in his wallet for him this morning and told him to start using it for everything. So what do I see when I login to my Chase account just now? He charged breakfast on our CSP  Lol, I just had to laugh. It's only a $1.XX so not a make or break situation obviously, but guess I need to label the new card for him.

For those that may be interested - r/churning seems to have fixed their Referral link issues so that people can now post the new style Chase links. They also added some posts for the new Hilton cards.

Nah, we are just making the best of it!
I had both eyes done for cataract surgery last year but insurance took care of it all but the $20 copay, so no 'spend' for me.

I'm working on the Ditech payment now and hitting a wall. Are you putting "Provident" on the same line as the PO Box? When I try that, I get a message that says my address is undeliverable. I don't see another place to list the company name if not on the first line. Attn: Cashier Ditech isn't working - not sure if its because I have Ditech on the first line or if the address is causing the problem.

This is how mine is set up line by line:
Recipient Name: ATTN CASHIER
Recipient Address: PO Box 51738, Provident
Recipient City: Los Angeles
Recipient State: CA-California Recipient zip code: 90051

ETA: Just saw that you got it to work...great!
