I love credit cards so much!

I did this earlier today actually...just a handwritten version.
I also mapped out 2018 and what I want to accomplish each month for this hobby so I can stay on track.

So when does a *\24 fall off...the day of application + 24mths?

Also, bonus points every 24mths are from date of app or date points posted?

When I called Chase and was told that I had opened too many cards, the rep told me the exact dates (month, day, year) that I had opened the cards. She didn't specifically say "and that adds up to five within 24 months" but I knew that's what she meant, so I assume you are correct -- date of application + 24 months.

Related to lists, does anyone have or know where to find a list of when airline miles and hotel points expire? SW sent an email reminding me that my points were about to expire, but I'd like to be more organized about knowing when points will expire.

On the note of returns counting or not for minimum spend...

I bought some stuff from Kohl's on Black Friday for in store pickup, about $150, and then decided I didn't want it and just let them cancel my order/refund me automatically. That must not have counted for my spend, because I was about $15 under for 5-6 days and no bonus points. But on Thursday I prepaid my phone bill by $50, and now I see the bonus points on my AMEX login. And I didn't login yesterday, so it's possible they showed even then.

Now $4k to go on the card... on one hand, this is a big spend and it's slowed me down, especially as our expenses are small. On the other, I'm kind of antsy and am definitely feeling fear of missing out on the other Marriott/SPG cards between me and DH. We both have SPG personal and I have Marriott personal and SPG Biz... but even though I wouldn't have an exact plan in mind for more SPG points right now, I want to get those before they go away! :rotfl: Maybe I can talk DH into making the car payments through plastiq, and that the fee is worth it...
would you mind sharing your ideas for the SPG Marriott cards? I'm unable to get another SPG personal for me or DH(got it already) but since I'm now a SPG/Marriott member, should I be looking at those cards before everything changes? I'm just looking to accumulate a few SPG usable points.... only problem is I'm LOL/24 for a while ....(just got the JB 60k offer)

damn. If you never said that, i wouldnt have known. thanks. I put my parking fee on my amex... i should have posted it on my reserve.
I did find out out room charge comes into your account separately. I did take 3 deal where its triple points on your stay. They put the charge separately and i didnt get 3x on that. it was a $100 food charge too... :( I guess ill find out what happens with my last stay. Thanks!

I have a handwritten list also! It's in a small file along with every card in its own slot so it's easily visible to me(I am forgetful)- I started it last month, and hoping to keep on top of all exp dates,5/24 ,and keeping unused points active.

Could you try for the SPG Biz from amex?

There may be a better/more up to date list somewhere but this is a pretty good article from 2015.

Never thought I'd be happy to be a primary Delta person :rolleyes1

I usually just shop through a portal to reset United and American, fwiw.

So...Dh AF just posted....I'm almost afraid to try(silly I know) but it's probably the right time to retry that SM and ask for the PC??? Today,or wait for regular business weekday hours?
You can do it today, I think. I put we downgraded 12/29, but it was actually Saturday 12/30. DH had to call but it took 2 minutes. I told him $450 was the most he ever got paid for 2 minutes.

Thanks for the link - that's a good start. The no-expiring feature is nice with Delta - for SW, I was able to shop on-line and pick-up in-store (I was worried about the posting date for a purchase that was shipped).

thanks,I just had 'the talk' with DH....he was fairly impressed at the totals for that card, and agreed to call in if the SM doesn't work (I just sent another msg)

I'm back with more questions :-)

1. I'd really like to get a Target Red Card but don't want it to count against the Chase 5/24 rule. What if I do a Red Card Debit card instead of credit? Does the debit card count against 5/24. I shop at Target a lot and the 5% off would be nice.

2. I have two Chase cards that I want to cancel this year. The first is my SW Premier card, my AF was just charged on 1/1. If I cancel before the end of the month will that be refunded? Is that frowned upon, should I just suck it up and pay the AF since I got the 6000 bonus points for this year? I would like to cancel it this year because I want to try for a CP in 2019 again. I also want to cancel my CSP card before it renews in April. I have no need for the card as I have a CSR, I opened it last April. Should I spread out the time between cancelling the SW card and the CSP?

I don't plan to have anymore card applications until 2019.

I tried SM twice. Version of HUCA. Both times got the "please call" message. But they were not hard sell at all.

I 'think' you can keep your points from expiring by buying some little thing through the southwest shopping portal. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You can cancel the SW card, should be ok if it's been open a short time (relatively). For the CSP, have you considered Freedom or Freedom Unlimited? You can down grade CSP to either, still transfer to your CSR and make use of 5% bonus categories on Freedom or 1.5% on everything with FU. Neither have an AF.

No, the Target debit card does not count against 5/24. It’s literally just a debit card that pulls directly from your existing checking account.

So whats the scoop on Marriott/SPG credit card changes for this year? DH and I are both at 4/24. We both have SPG Amex personal and business + we both have the Marriott personal card. I'm tempted to apply for Marriott Business for both of us just for the sign up bonus. I'm not a fan of my Marriott personal card simply because its difficult to find a use for the free night - not sure the $85 fee is justified past the first year, so we'll probably cancel that one.

The Hyatt card is also on my radar but not ready to pull the trigger yet.

Even though I'm under 5/24 for personal cards, I do have two Chase Business cards (Ink, SW) and DH has the Ink. Even though I'm under 5/24, Chase can certainly see my business cards if they want to check. I've always wondered about this . . .

Oh - and I want to cancel both DH's and my IHG cards and reapply later to get the sign-up bonus again and to align our anniversary dates.

So, in summary, I'm considering Marriott Business, IHG, Hyatt (maybe).

Trying to make my plan for 2018! Thoughts?

i use awardwallets that keep track of when my points expire.

If you wish to continuing holding those 2 cards, you can always call in and see if they offer you a retention. They might give you money back to keep your card or bonus. this applies to both cards. For CSP, like what another poster say, its highly recommended you Product Change it to a Freedom card. earn my UR points and then transfer those points to the CSR.

its gonna happen, id apply for the Marriott Biz now, transfer that to SPG... Im pretty sure those 4 cards will no longer be available since this is the best way to merge SPG and Marriott into 1 program. at least the business card wont take up a slot... perhaps double dip the new cards at once since your at 4/24.
