I love credit cards so much!

Is anyone else feeling honestly overwhelmed by the amount of deals going on this holiday season? Haha, what a first world problem to have! I'm trying to make a list of a variety of things I need to purchase and which cashback portals, cards, and apps to use to get the best deal! Uber gift cards at Walgreens with 10% Chase offer and $10 Walgreens card back, Walmart grocery order with Amex offer and Shopkicks app credit and email coupon I just got, Target savings through Google Express... I need to sit down lol.

THIS. I've never been a list person, but I gave in and resorted to jotting down in the notes of my phone, which Chase offers are associated with which card (between DH and I, I've lost count :rotfl:...maybe 8-9 personals), the same with Amex, GC deals, and portals, like you said. Most importantly, also to make sure they've tracked...that's the killer o_O

Yes, I get super overwhelmed! All of the emails for Black Friday and Cyber Monday kind of made me feel sick.

Me too! It’s so hectic I’m missing good deals. I forgot about the Office Depot $20 with $150 happy card deal and a free google mini. Could have given those as Christmas gifts lol.

I also feel cash poor. I’m stocking up on all these giftcard deals my accounts look a little low. They will hopefully be back to normal in a few months. I just hope I don’t forget about all these giftcards. I’m trying to order all physical cards but if I don’t created an album in my phone called “Giftcards” I have been putting a screenshot of the redemption codes in the album. I have 10 e giftcards so far. lol

I have been loading what I can, in terms of eGift cards, into the Gyft app so it's easier to track them and just pull up the barcode during check-out. The only place this doesn't work is PF Chang's since there are not on Gyft :(

Just got an email “update on American Express Platinum Upgrades for 2019.” Blah, blah, blah—AF increased to $595!

Yeah, the new stuff really didn't wow me, but the fee did make me :scared: I think that I will be a one year holder of this card. A little bummed as I could almost justify it for another year before the increase and I enjoyed the in-flight internet and Delta Club access.

Just talked to recon, I was denied for too much available credit, too many active accounts on my credit report?? They can't see the AMEX Biz accounts right?

I've posted about this before, but I once applied for a Chase card when I was 5/24 because I had miscalculated a date. I called Chase and was told the reason for the denial was too many recent accounts, or something like that. I said that I didn't think four accounts in two years was all that many, and the rep said that I had five accounts opened in two years. I had my credit report in front of me, so I told her I was only seeing four accounts, and she obviously also had my credit report in front of her because she told me exactly what five she was counting. So I would just call Chase and see if you can get them to tell you which accounts they are counting.

They are making me nuts LOL. I know I am not 5/24, because they wouldn't have given me the BIZ. I have counted 10 open cards. 3 are Chase, 3 are store cards that have been opened forever and ever, one Cap one, and then AMEX personal. Uf. I have to call personal lending, recon is done with me.

This is a great idea. Thanks I didn’t even think of this.

I'm really mad at myself for not taking advantage of this deal. Someone gave us a Google Home Mini for Christmas last year. I have no interest in smart home products and have left it sitting in the box for the last year. Well, I listed it on Mercari last night and woke up this morning to a notification that it had sold. Now I wish I'd gotten another free one. :headache:

I've also felt totally cash poor lately, even though my net worth in YNAB keeps rising lol. I'm really not sitting on a large stash of gift cards, I just have a bunch of random ones lying around for places like Ulta and Petco and Regal Cinemas that I'm slowly using up. I've been trying to take advantage of things like the Boxed and Walmart Grocery offers while I have them though, so as a result our grocery/household goods bill ended up being $600 last month for 2 people! I'm all set on laundry detergent/dish detergent/cleaners for a long time now though lol.

Thanks for the suggestions! Yes, I have tried all of the above, to no avail. Last time I tried calling and booking on a partner but they told me they couldn’t book Air NZ if I wasn’t seeing it appear on the website. HOWEVER, in reading the articles you posted, one author had to huca FOUR times before getting a competent enough United agent who was able to book a partner airline. So I guess I know what I will be doing today. I don’t have high hopes, but I’ll try anyway!

Air NZ doesnt release too many award seats for its partners. I occasionally see one or 2 randomly. I think the best way to fly them is to wait for cyber mon when the prices drop by half and book them with cash.
Of course, Cyber monday almost a year from now... :\

I think UA flies to NZ from SFO so thats another route u can try to fly.

Did you use household income for your DD or her own income? I'm considering whether to try to get DD her own card (likely Discover) before she leaves us next summer or wait until she's out of the house--didn't know if there were pros v. cons to either approach. Pretty sure she's happy just being an AU since I foot the bills :crazy2:

I used her own income for both apps. I’m not sure you can use household income for an 18yo. I feel like I read that you can’t ...

ETA: just googled it and yes, at 18yo, must have their own income for the app.

I've been MIA for a bit because life has been crazy but I've had a few wins lately:

  • My CIP finally arrived and I met the spend within 2 minutes of opening the envelope
  • DH was approved for and received the SW Biz card
  • I was targeted for the 10,000 MRs for enrolling in pay over time
  • was targeted for and have been successfully using the Amazon/MR 20% off deal
DH's credit limit for the SW Biz was only $5000 so I lowered the limit on his CIP by $6000. Hopefully this is enough for him to be approved for the SW personal next month.

Congrats...on the approvals...if your DH has Chase personal cards you may want to reduce the credit limits on those as well

I struggle to identify with a normal human when it comes to money. As churners and deal-searchers :teacher:...we spend so far in advance it's like I live in the future. :teleport:

When we travel people are always like, "oh yeah gonna be paying that off for awhile, huh?" and I'm like...no we paid for this trip with points, gift cards, etc. like 6+ months ago. :duck: People talk about "paying the bills"...and I'm lost. o_O We pay most of our Utilities 12 months at a time while on a large MSR. I often pay our cable bill with VGCs acquired months prior and sometimes I'll just pay it ahead by 4-6 months to hit an MSR too. We try to acquire Walmart gift cards on Raise for all expenses there so we typically have 3-6 months of that sitting on hand.

I have realized I'm so out of touch that I just mimic and mirror people when I get in one of these conversations. A lot of head nods and agreement. ::yes:: If I even try to start explaining to them what I do they either a) think I'm crazy, b) think I'm super rich, or c) BOTH.

:rolleyes1:ssst:shhh...perhaps I am crazy AND super rich...:scratchin
When I told my friends about my new hobby, most of them thought it was pretty crazy and/or amazing, but a few were like :scared1: "But, interest charges! Those CC companies are not going to get me. I pay for everything in cash."

Then you are playing yourself :rotfl: Even before I knew about "the game," I was charging everything to a CC for small amounts of cashback & travel points. I pay my bills in full every month. I have never paid an interest charge in my life.

There are things I cannot do in a cash-based society, like pay bills in advance (or with a CC at all), that would make meeting MSR much easier. But, even without that, we always manage to make it without buying anything we wouldn't have bought anyway. We just change WHEN we buy it & make sure we can still afford it at that time.

Speaking of "the game," I am now the proud owner of a new CIP. Glad to know my "business" is creditworthy :p

I have four smart devices in my 700 square foot apartment lol. I love them but it would have been a good option to sell them. I’m so bummed I missed it.

Hahaha. They are kind of neat, but the novelty would probably wear off in about 3 days for us. I didn't even have Siri turned on on my iphone for the first year I owned it, so clearly I'm not getting a lot of use out of this stuff lol.
