I love credit cards so much!

Hmm, I applied (and was hoping to churn) for the Barclay Arrival+. I first had the card a little over a year ago and PC'ed it about 6 weeks ago to a different Barclay card. Here is the message I got:

We appreciate your interest in the Barclaycard Arrival Plus Mastercard.

Unfortunately, we are not able to provide you with an immediate decision on the application you just submitted.
Your application requires further review, which can take up to 10 days.

We will notify you in writing in no more than 30 days (and often sooner) about the status of your application.

You can also visit our website to check the status at www.myapplicationstatus.com

Thoughts?? I have NO idea what this kind of message means on a Barclay app.

Did you get a hard pull? If so, that's a truly pending message from Barclays, and I'd wait it out. If you did not get a hard pull, it's a likely denial because they are still seeing your old account and 6 weeks isn't enough time.

If it's a denial, I'd wait a few weeks and try to recon to see if that helps (but if they didn't do a HP, it really doesn't matter much anyway, you could also do a whole new application in 1-2 months).

I bought my one-way tickets from Richmond to Chicago for Memorial Day! Already had the return tickets. Now to buy some Cubs and Hamilton tickets. And if anyone wants to recommend any Chicago restaurants teenagers will enjoy, please do!

Just checked for tix in our area for Chicago as well. Guess I better get booking as this is our destination for May.

Today’s the day SO goes over 5/24. It isn’t going well.

Got approved for the Southwest Priority.

Next was the A+. Pending

Next US Bank Altitude. Pending

Next Barclay AA. Pending.

Any suggestions of what else I should try for? Capital one? BOA? (I have no relationship with either.

Should I turn to Amex now?

Tomorrow morning SO will go for the Hyatt.

Fwiw... Did you get a hard hit? Barclays has enforced the window on some A+ apps starting around July. I was one & eventually got a follow up letter saying I’d already had the product so I didn’t qualify so they didn’t pull my credit. I applied a few weeks after closing my previous one. I don’t have access to the initial decision right now so can’t compare that language for you :(

Thanks for the info. They did a HP. I’ll just wait it out. I was seeing DPs of people churning that card after only having closed it 30 days ago. Even though those were from 2017, I was hopeful my 6 weeks was enough.

I’m having problems with a Sams giftcard too I bought online. Can’t activate it and can’t get it to works. It’s only $10 but so frustrating. Did u straighten it out?
I learned my lesson re: sams gc last month...not gonna bother again! too much work! I'm still getting emails to activate that last card (that had to be specially activated after a huge hassle, and is long spent just to get rid of it)

Got around to doing the AmEx offer for Boxed, spend $75 get $20. First time with Boxed and first time with Ibotta. Checked dischurners first (@SouthFayetteFan @wendow :D).
So bought about $100 worth (with tax) of a boatload of toilet paper and tissue, lol.

Should be getting:
-$20 AmEx
-$15 first time Boxed
-$10 first time Ibotta
-$18 Ibotta cashback (although I have no idea how they got this amount)
-$5 Ibotta cashback bonus on $80+ Boxed

Paying effectively $32. :)

First time with Ibotta ever? OR through that website? I'm down for $100 worth of TP for $32, LOL

Gutsy! I have no advice but the world is yours.

Okay all....So I'm at 8/24 (WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY didn't I open business for more accounts?)

CSR - 10/16
Spirit - 4/17 (for stupid points I can never use as the flights are NEVER as low as they claimed...grrr)
BOA (for 0% transfer) - 9/17
RedAviator AA - 9/17
Delta Gold Amex - 10/17
Hilton Ascend Amex - 11/17
Best Buy 5/18 (damn dryer)
Citi Biz AA 10/18
Chase IHG 10/18
SPG Biz 2006?

I won't be under 5/24 until 10/19. I go to Vegas for school every November. I get a new card to around then because between that and the holidays I easily hit the spend (I pay upfront, the school reimburses me). I want the Ink. I applied for the ink before the 2 in October, I was denied. I'm Chase private banking, I asked my banker to see what he could even do, his hands are tied. So I read once when you're over 5/24 and it's going to be awhile, don't pass on opportunities you have now because you never know what Chase will have in the future. That said, it is smarter for me to apply for the business versions of cards between now and then if I want to go below 5/24, correct? The damn Chase rule confuses me time to time, or maybe it's the blonde hair, LOL. I've hit my $4k spend for the AA Citi Business, and my $3k IHG spend, so I'm looking what my next card will be. I'm holding off for now as I need to get approved for another 0% transfer card in Jan to transfer about $8k of divorce credit card debt I "won". But after that I'll be back to spending on something that earns me some perks.

Seeing my "portfolio" and knowing I'm over 5/24, what would you suggest next? My BF currently lives in NC, I'm in MI, so I've been using those AA miles to see him, I can fly Delta too, just costs more points, so I haven't. I was leaning towards the HH Ascend Biz, but I'm open to others. Oh, and I tried for the RedAviator Biz and was denied. They claimed my "short credit history". I told them it was from needing to open cards in my own name thanks to the divorce, but they didn't care, LOL. Anyone know when I could try for that again? My FICO is about 765-780 and my "average age" is 5 years 6 mos. Though I have cards going back 10+ years.

Oh and those working this game for your kids, what cards are you getting them, and what ages are they?

I got DD as an AU on the Chase IHG. It got me 2500 bonus pts. But I also read it helps her to establish credit off my good score. She's 13, my son is 9. I'm down for opening up a few for them if it helps them in the long run and doesn't cost me anything (I'm not adding them onto my CSR).

I have realized I'm so out of touch that I just mimic and mirror people when I get in one of these conversations. A lot of head nods and agreement. ::yes:: If I even try to start explaining to them what I do they either a) think I'm crazy, b) think I'm super rich, or c) BOTH.

This sounds like me. Whenever coworkers my age start talking about how they can't pay their credit cards down and will never own a home, I just nod along and don't say anything... I'm not at all rich, don't come from money, and have an insane amount of student loans. I've still never carried a balance on a credit card!

Gutsy! I have no advice but the world is yours.

unfortunately after my update it has gotten worse so I’m calling it a day. Denied for Citi AA, denied for BOA don’t even remember the one I applied him for lol. And Amex when I went for the Gold for him he got the Dang pop up. He has put spend on all his cards expect for the his delta card. This was a fail.

I struggle to identify with a normal human when it comes to money. As churners and deal-searchers :teacher:...we spend so far in advance it's like I live in the future. :teleport:

When we travel people are always like, "oh yeah gonna be paying that off for awhile, huh?" and I'm like...no we paid for this trip with points, gift cards, etc. like 6+ months ago. :duck: People talk about "paying the bills"...and I'm lost. o_O We pay most of our Utilities 12 months at a time while on a large MSR. I often pay our cable bill with VGCs acquired months prior and sometimes I'll just pay it ahead by 4-6 months to hit an MSR too. We try to acquire Walmart gift cards on Raise for all expenses there so we typically have 3-6 months of that sitting on hand.

I have realized I'm so out of touch that I just mimic and mirror people when I get in one of these conversations. A lot of head nods and agreement. ::yes:: If I even try to start explaining to them what I do they either a) think I'm crazy, b) think I'm super rich, or c) BOTH.

:rolleyes1:ssst:shhh...perhaps I am crazy AND super rich...:scratchin
I feel that way too many times..... like I noted earlier, we are NOT wealthy people! But when one of our trips is looming (usually 2-3x a year, not even a lot around here!) I start getting weird questions and funny stares in response....I try to avoid as many of them as I can but I got cornered last night and the response from the prying person was so neurotic and somewhat scary..... "WHAT???? HOW much is Hawaii costing you? I KNOW it's really expensive! I've asked (x,y,z) and they told me how $$$ it is!"
So I tell the truth (:rotfl2:basically free) and then I get...."hook me up! why are you keeping secrets?? I want it for free too! Just tell me how to get this deal and I'll do it!!!" (as if it's one simple step and it all falls into your lap lol) which is exactly why I try to avoid these types of conversations in the first place...If I mention something insane like prepaying my electric bill for points at the right time...I don't even know what would happen!

You can have a Chase business relationship manager do a paper application on the CIP. I think that still gets around 5/24.

Since you are a Chase private banker I assume you are just looking for a 0% card to use strategically and you won’t rack up a ton of debt lol but a good 0% business card is the Amex Blue Biz.

All you can do at their ages is add them as AUers. I’ve done this for my teens for about 3 years now. When dd18 turned 18yo, I got her a Discover IT student card. That was about 6 mos ago and just last week she was approved for the freedom unlimited.

Thanks for the info. They did a HP. I’ll just wait it out. I was seeing DPs of people churning that card after only having closed it 30 days ago. Even though those were from 2017, I was hopeful my 6 weeks was enough.
interesting,I got the same notice, and a HP...I think I'll be getting my envelope today so either way that's my answer.....

By the way, I finally got around to reading that Mommy Points article on TPG that everyone was talking about. What a... bizarre story. I truly didn't understand it. I know I'm not a mother, but I don't really understand how not having lounge access just to spend another, what, maybe an hour?, with her kids somehow left her in tears and so upset that she needed to write this article. I mean, we're talking about her leaving to take a nice vacation with her own mother when she already travels all the time for her job anyways. It's not like she was leaving for a year's deployment to Afghanistan...

I really don't mean to mom-shame. This was just a super strange scenario to me.
