I love credit cards so much!

I used to have Facebook in jr high and high school but someone hacked into mine and posted some not so nice things about me. I ended up deleting it and haven’t had one since. I still have a Twitter but I don’t post anything; just follow famous people and stuff. I also have a Pinterest but I don’t post anything there either. They just have a lot of creative teaching things.

Yes, it's definitely the older people who are on FB. (one generation above me in some cases LOL).

Yes, all my aunts and my MIL are still super into FB. I'm not really into any social media so I just hang back and watch lol. I only care what my kiddos are into and so far, it's been minimal, and not FB. Social media is not dying out but it is changing.

How about MySpace??? Is that a thing still?

How about Xanga? :rotfl:

What I like about FB: Keeping in touch with some friends, and seeing their kids since I now live in another state. My extended family also has a private group which is nice for planning family get togethers and wedding info and sharing info on other things that people may be interested in coming to, baptisms, sports events, etc. Also for sharing the photos from these things. I've got some Disboard friends on there now too.

What I don't like about FB: everything else  but really, I hate the fb stalkers, the people addicted to scrolling thru it all the time, the political stuff, my sister likes to use it to rub things in my face all the time, it's one more route for my dad to try and contact me. I also hate that so much of my extended family is on fb - partly because some try to guilt trip me through it, and partly because even the extended family who says they support me in my family drama treat me differently on fb, for example my aunt who posts for everyone's birthdays/anniversaries the day before so she can be the first, doesn't post about me. It's sad that people are so worried about even what their own family thinks about them (me included :()

I use instagram more often now, though still not a ton; the main thing I hate about it is that I can't go back and edit people's permissions - there's people I wish I could go back and block now.

:worship: Just looking at the Stop&Shop flyer....3x fuel rewards on Mastercard GCs. Sweet deal with the Amex Gold card. This will make up for the almost dead CVS Dosh promo going on. I just finished using my points from the last promo a month ago so nice to see it. Last round was 2x so this is much better. My Murano, along with wallet, will enjoy the savings.

Do you turn the mc gcs into MOs or just spend them? Are mc gcs more problematic sometimes??

I feel like this is a dumb question but how do you know you’re getting 3x or 2x points on Amex? I can’t seem to find the points per transaction on the app or website.

@juju12345 - Click on Statements & Activity -->Change the drop down from "Recent Activity" to "Year to Date" and it will show on the side what you are getting for points. The points take a couple days to be added into the list.

Depends on your definition of thing, but yes it still exists :) I think they went back to their roots and it's focused on music now. So a more targeted audience than before. Everything is a fad, I'm still waiting for the"this too shall pass" day for FB; which given the controversies is probably a little sooner than I expected. (but probably still not soon enough)

I don't think I've seen this piece about Chase shutdowns from The Points Guy highlighted here so sharing a link:

https://thepointsguy.com/news/criti...ditorial&utm_medium=social&utm_source=TWITTER

It picks up a number of the factors that have been discussed on this thread. One factor that I haven't really seen discussed here is the number of Chase cards held, and that applying for another Chase card when you already hold 5 or 6 could be risky. That's a scary one to me because I am currently holding 6 Chase cards (5 personal and 1 business). I'm not going to let it deter me from applying for the CIP since I don't have any of the other risk factors discussed, but curious about what others think.

5 or 6 cards! Geez, I have 10 Chase cards. This is why I dont churn Chase.

@Albort and I have been tracking shutdowns closely. I believe I can absolutely state that the # of cards you hold absolutely has no bearing. It’s all about when you apply and your recent activities.

“Applying for a Chase Card when you hold 5 or 6” is not risky at all if you haven’t applied for a card in 6 months and have been fairly clean the last year and managed your CLs appropriately.

Now if you hold 5 or 6; have gotten 3 cards in the past 6 months and 6 cards in the last year (across any issuers) and your CLs are 150% of your income...you’re asking for trouble.

:)

You know you are tempting me to go clean up all my cards and credit lines and go for card number 11. Seriously, I am glad you posted about paring down the number of cards and lines of credit. It’s on my to do list.

Good thing none of us are Facebook friends... I work in the political sphere and have a lot to say :rotfl2:

I’m old and I use FB. I am actually friends with some folks here on FB. The political stuff doesn’t bother me. I watch both sides like a tennis match and don’t get involved on social media about it. My posts are travel pics and the odd non political video or meme that makes me spew coffee.

I used to show dogs and miss having a dog so keeping up with what’s going on in the Golden Retriever world, dog show friends, seeing pics of the up and coming new stars, the beloved veterans and of course puppy pictures is my way of staying involved from a distance. It’s also been a way to keep in touch with people we’ve met on Disney Cruises, ABD and other Disney trips. Plus one day, I will start a blog and hope to have a handful of people follow that already like the pictures I post. I have Insta but never use it. My nail tech wound up tagging me and adding all her Disney nail art on my Insta so she can find it all quickly. She asked me weeks later if I’d checked my Insta Account and I said no. Then she explained exactly what she did and that was why she did it. LOL She’s a lot younger than I am. I really need to do the Insta thing more. I’m with teenagers this weekend at WDW and HHN so maybe I’ll get a crash course.

I am really only on page 2714 but hat tip to @Lain @SouthFayetteFan for the reminder of Amex self referral!

Instant approval and number of a rose gold card!!!! I couldn't decide on card plans and kept waffeling back and forth for the past few days so I just jumped in the second I realized I was able to self-refer. 5 minutes before I have to leave for work at that.

Ugh off to work.....

:wave2::wave2: Meeee. Lol. I still prefer check registers. I’m trying to like mint. But I don’t. (Hangs my head in shame) We don’t even do bank bonuses, but for some reason have 3 checking accounts. I keep a register to the penny for all of them. I don’t do many checks anymore, very few. But all my CCs are paid online and written down in the registers. Only 1 automatic bill that doesn’t take CC written down in the register. I’d be lost without them. Never have used a debit card. But occasionally need to go to atm, all written in register.

Should I admit I literally keep no extra records other than my online ones? I review my credit cards daily (almost) and I pay the bills through bill pay which gives me an online record of what's going on. For example I can pull up the activity and figure out what a year's worth of electric or gas costs me.

Somewhere I have actual checks but I don't remember the last time I actually wrote one. Navy Federal supplies free checks with just a name on them and I used them for years before bill pay to mail a check to pay my bills.

I can tell you what I have in the bank in checking and savings. I know what is coming in and going out (after all these years) and I do keep an emergency fund.

I keep a very small amount of cash on me. Almost every penny goes through credit cards and I still keep my paper statements coming - can't seem to let that go.

I pay no interest. That has not always been the case. In my thirties and early forties (during family and going through divorce), credit cards got lots of interest, but I worked hard and with lots of overtime, I was able to kill that.

I have never used a debit card. I do have an ATM card which with a pin can be used to essentially debit, but other than getting a bit of cash out from time to time, it sees little use.

Perhaps my straight use of credit makes it easier not to need to balance anything?

Well, I would have more confidence/interest in your view point based on your background then some of the people on my friends list

I'm not on FB (for a lot of reasons) but occasionally hack into my Mom's (so yes, grandparents are definitely the audience as far as I can tell). Honestly people get so ugly about politics...and I'm not a big exception. Obviously I don't post but I've essentially stopped wanting contact with some family members due to their extreme and excessive views (can't we all just live and let live?). Mom wouldn't let me "unfriend" some of these people but she has done something where their posts are hidden (she's passive like that). Anyhoo...in the ward room (dining room for officers) the rule is not to discuss politics, religion or sex (kind of like the Dis!). I think that's a fairly good rule in life unless a friendship is strong enough to tolerate dissent and strong (or uniformed) decisions.

Okay, back to the topic of credit cards. My on line line up of Amexes is SO PRETTY-platinum, rose gold, purple, clear. Lovely!!!

I was going to say this isn't working for me - but - realized I bought no gas, did not use the card for any restaurants (other than one food truck) so I will check it after I use it for something that gets 2 or 3 times the points, etc.

So, another query - my first lux statement closed with 3045 points in addition to the 100K. So $5600 in spend should get me at least 11200 Marriott points right?

Anyway, looking at my first statement, I can't figure out how they came up with 3095. My next statement will close on Oct 10 and I haven't used the card recently because they gave me an offer on the other SPG personal so I'll try to figure it out again after that before I put any additional spend on it. It will take me most of October to do the 2K on the spg personal as I have no bigger bills this month.
