I love credit cards so much!

Maybe I should just cancel our return flight for our longer trip, that will be past my anniversary date :rotfl: Email in my notice, effective immediately because my company typically pays the two weeks but doesn't make people work it in case they mess something up on the computer system!

Can anyone make me feel better today about this 48 month thing.

We mostly wanted to stay under 5/24 to focus on SW and UR...for Disney parks and cruises. What is going to be the best strategy going forward? No more 3x on CIP to beef up earnings. Freedom 5x cats are nice, but it really isn't all that many points over a 3 month period.
How else can we get SW points once those cards (assuming likely) go 48 mths too? Is amex to marriott to SW an option? I need to look into amex points. I know nothing about them.

I’ve earned a lot SW points shopping through the SW shopping portal

The CIC can earn 5X at office supply stores. You could load up on Visa gift cards and use that to pay for everything.

I’m with you on the SW CP....it saves us a lot of $$ and I’ve made it a priority to have one the last few years...

My current one is good through 12/19...and I was planning on getting it again in early 2020. If the 48 month rule is applied to SW...I’ll switch it up and have P2 get the CP then

If I’m reading correctly you have to wait until October to apply for any cards for your DH....so hopefully we will know more by then
I've planned 2 trips this year to make sure we get a couple more trips out of our CP. I'm not touching DH's credit until nov/dec when he can apply for the 2 SW cards to earn us the CP again.

Thank you. Delta has layovers to everywhere from BNA. :(

Same here from PNS. But...I have embraced the positioning flight and the airport that is ATL...with my Amex Platinum I can hit a lounge (or many, depending on the length of layover) and compare food offerings :) Clearly I have the airline version of Stockholm Syndrome because I almost enjoy it :sad2:

all this chase talk has me completely unnerved now. Since DH was gonna be 4/24 by OCT,I was gonna go for the SWA CP for him-was gonna wait for the usual dec/jan timeline for that.(likely a pers. and biz) and then possibly go for a Sapphire DD in Feb/March when the next dropped off..... now I'm wildly reconsidering...... SWA has always been the lynchpin of my planning with the CP...... but I'm concerned that all products will be the 48 month rule ...and then we'll be out for both options.(24 mos rule no prob here) trying to figure out if a csp referral might be better asap while it's still 24 mos. language ...so at the least I'll have those UR to use either way....but the reality is those 50k UR are much less valuable than the SWA points+CP together for 2 years.....any insights at all? or should i just wait a couple of weeks to see how this shakes out?
I’d take a breath and wait to see how things shake out. I wouldn’t abandon your strategy yet over a “fear” that something may change in the next 3 months.

Are 4 Chase cards too many in one year? I didn't have an 'accumulation' mentality last year when I applied for Chase Disney Sept 2017 and Chase Freedom in November 2017. Then I applied for CSP in July 2018. My new plan has been to go for CIP around October 2018. Anyone foresee problems with this? Do I need to wait longer? I am currently at 4/24. Next card drops off June 2019.

Why can't WDW hotels show up on the UR site? I just want to book a room the easy way without having to call.
They are now showing in on the freedom log in, but still not sapphire. odd.
However, the sale prices don't show up on freedom...but they do on Expedia.
I agree, it is SUPER annoying!

ETA: when I called to book ours for august using CSR, they said they couldn't book it using URs since it wasn't showing up on the site. Thats when I asked to transfer to cruise and tours and they were able to do it. So basically the general UR people are useless about it.

I think Oct would be fine.

From everything I’ve read 3-4 months between Chase cards is fine...I’ve received 4 since 10/17...2 personal and 2 business

Thank you for this. Credit Journey confirmed I have 5 accounts opened in the last 24 months. I will wait until that says 4 - hopefully before Oct. 1.

Just a heads up - The CreditJourney dashboard doesn't seem to factor in closed accounts - I checked DW's CJ and it said 3 accounts opened in last 24 months - which I knew wasn't true. So I looked at the accounts page, and all 5 accounts opened in the past 24 months were showing, but the dashboard obviously ignored the two that had been opened AND closed within the the last 2 years.

I got all excited for a minute, thinking that if Chase thinks she was only 3/24 then we should be good to go for a DD - alas 'tis not the case but only one more month to wait. Just have to hope Chase doesn't do anything new in the meantime to stop DD. :rolleyes2

Well I’ll try to make you feel better...
  • At this point this ONLY applies to CSR/CSP.
  • CSR and CSP are Chase branded cards - SW is a partner. SW may not want a rule like this applied to their cards so let’s stay optimistic and not assume it’s likely yet
  • AMEX to Marriott to Southwest is viable - it has been viable since the SPG merger. You’d actually get a much better value IMO out of cashing AMEX MRs our via Schwab and paying cash for your SW flights (or taking it one step further and buying discounted SW Gift cards)
  • Freedom 5x can be pretty lucrative if you can get your hands on multiple Freedom cards (I proudly have 4)
  • Lots of URs can be earned via CIP, CIU, CIC so that Avenue is still open.
  • One major date on the horizon is the 2 yr anniversary of the CIP release which will occur in Oct 2016. Will be interesting to see if any 48 month provision pops up on that card then.
  • Hyatt points also transfer to SW so you could look into that card (I don’t recall the actual transfer rates).
I know that’s a bunch of scattered/random thoughts. Hopefully some of it helps lol!

Have you closed any new cards in the last 2 years? Because the number they put on the front of the Credit Journey that says accounts opened will not include those but will still count against 5/24. I just pulled my Experian. Chase pulled from there and also from Equifax. On Experian they did list opening dates on the 1st of the month but Equifax listed the actual date. Also, I believe I said a few weeks ago that I didn't think Amex pulled anything for my first card because I check both Credit Karma and Credit Journey and someone mentioned maybe Experian was pulled. Yes, Amex pulled from Experian only. May I just say I totally do not get the need for 3 credit bureaus. Is there a reason for having 3?

So basically, if you want to book Disney rooms, you check Expedia, and then call cruise and tours?

Are you over 5/24? Wondering if you could split the difference...one do sapphire and one do CP?

I didn't want to take the chance on the SW cards later this year, after yesterday's news, so I went ahead and app'd for the SW biz last night. 30 days pending of course. If it goes through I may DD the personals too, but I will get one for sure. With the new sapphire 48 mths and knowing SW wants CP to be harder to attain with Hawaii coming up, I just didn't want to take the chance.
unfortunately I'm at about 9/24 right now (possibly more) so it's Dh's acct I've been 'saving' for this plan..... I'm wondering about the upgrade offers with SWA...anything with the new one? (I have both plus and premier) that could be helpful if I could find that

I've just looked for I want on the Disney site before calling and have them book direct...

This is what I do as well. That's how I booked my November trip. The prices matched up exactly to the penny on what I saw on the Disney website and what the Chase C&T rep said. I got my DME number almost instantly and have had no issues connecting anything. I booked room only and not tickets this way.
