I love credit cards so much!

Also the Amex 5 cc rule. That’s the main appeal to me as my other slots are/will be taken.

ETA: FYI there is a targeted offer for 125k some people have gotten for opening it new. You can self-refer to the 100k from the prsnl for 20k more. Also upgrading can be a work around to the no new card rule if you’ve had the Marriott cards.
Thank you..... I can refer myself, from my pers. SPG for a new luxe for the 100k? that sounds interesting..... I already have 6 cards on my amex page(2 are AU's) so I need to be careful..... I'm considering this one....

Well I’ll try to make you feel better...
  • At this point this ONLY applies to CSR/CSP.
  • CSR and CSP are Chase branded cards - SW is a partner. SW may not want a rule like this applied to their cards so let’s stay optimistic and not assume it’s likely yet
  • AMEX to Marriott to Southwest is viable - it has been viable since the SPG merger. You’d actually get a much better value IMO out of cashing AMEX MRs our via Schwab and paying cash for your SW flights (or taking it one step further and buying discounted SW Gift cards)
  • Freedom 5x can be pretty lucrative if you can get your hands on multiple Freedom cards (I proudly have 4)
  • Lots of URs can be earned via CIP, CIU, CIC so that Avenue is still open.
  • One major date on the horizon is the 2 yr anniversary of the CIP release which will occur in Oct 2016. Will be interesting to see if any 48 month provision pops up on that card then.
  • Hyatt points also transfer to SW so you could look into that card (I don’t recall the actual transfer rates).
I know that’s a bunch of scattered/random thoughts. Hopefully some of it helps lol!

Thank you, that is helpful!
Great idea on the MRs to cash to SW flights. I wouldn't have thought of that at all.
So for our CIPs, other than cell bills and gyft/swych what am I missing that makes it a great earner now? I am making a spreadsheet with the cards and their earning categories to keep this all straight. Ha! Does CIC earn 5x on gyft/swych so maybe I should go that route in the future. I am trying to decide btwn a CIC and a SW Biz and CIU for DH now.
We have 2 CFs at the moment but I could PC DH's CSR to one. I'm just not sure I can let go of that CSR not knowing how fast those referral links are going to die. I'd have to give it enough time to also decrease the CL and let that update before doing a DD for him. He has prob a $90k Chase CL at the moment.

You can use UR points to buy flights through the Chase travel portal. If you have a CSR, they’re worth 1.5cpp. Depending on how much the taxes are for your flights, it may be a better deal to just buy your tickets with UR points (which will also cover all the taxes/fees) than to redeem airline miles and pay cash for the taxes. Another plus to buying airline tickets with UR points is that it’s considered a revenue fare so you still earn miles for the flight.

Well, that depends. My advice has always been to make sure your points are already in place one year before the trip. Most airlines release their flights 330~ days out. Depending on the airline and the class of service, award tickets can disappear fast. If you are looking for flights for next fall you don't have much time to have those points ready to book award flights. If you are booking economy, then you may have a little more of a cushion than if you were looking to book business or first.

Do you know which airline you would be flying for certain? If so, I'd suggest some mock bookings to get an idea of what you will need in terms of miles for an award flight. That information would be your best bet to helping you decide which way to go in terms of cc apps. You can always stick to AA business cards with Citi and Barclay and MR business cards so that you stay under 5/24.

Thank you both! Much to think about lol

unfortunately I'm at about 9/24 right now (possibly more) so it's Dh's acct I've been 'saving' for this plan..... I'm wondering about the upgrade offers with SWA...anything with the new one? (I have both plus and premier) that could be helpful if I could find that

Just upgraded my SW plus to the priority. It was easy

Since my anniversary date was in early August...I waited until the statement closed and 3,000 annual plus points posted to my SW RR....then upgraded to the Priority....they refunded the $69 plus annual fee...and I expect the $149 fee and 5,000 points to post when the statement closes. I’ve already used the $75 credit..it posted the same day I purchased a flight.
If you didn’t get the link to see if your eligible for the upgrade...send me a pm

I guess I'm gonna have to do that...... and just hope one of these works out.
Yeah - you don’t want to react out of anger or panic in this game. (At least that’s my opinion). I always try to take a step back and figure out the best plan and try to eliminate my emotions from the decision lol.

So basically, if you want to book Disney rooms, you check Expedia, and then call cruise and tours?
I would check the portal with a Freedom log in if that is an option and then call cruise and tours to see if they can get the discounted rate through disney or not.

I didn't receive an upgrade offer for the new SW card. Neither did DH.:sad2: It is currently the same bonus as the old cards.

I just pulled these two increased offers on the PRG and Platinum using Chrome browser on incognito mode and Private Internet Access VPN set to the US Seattle servers. I tried it again on the same VPN and network settings using Safari private mode and got the same offers.

It took me less than 5 minutes trying different combinations of private/incognito modes on Chrome, Safari, and Opera browsers, and connecting my VPN to different big city servers around the US (I tried, California, Silicon Valley, Chicago, New York, then finally Seattle worked). In the incognito window, I'd type in americanexpress .com, click on the Personal Cards graphic, see the 50k special offer for the PRG (which is good, but not what you want), click Rewards Points Cards in the nav bar, and find the 75k special offer on the personal Platinum.

Now, to your question, if you're at 40k of your 55k referral cap, you'd get only 15k for referring DH. However, one upside is those 15k would go into your MR account, and the public 60k bonus (and whatever points earned for MSR) would go into DH's MR account. The net is ~75k, but split between your and DH's MR accounts. If DH were to apply for the 75k Platinum incognito offer, the 75k (and whatever points earned for MSR) would go into only his MR account. You can't transfer or pool MRs between spouses like you can with Chase URs in the same household. However, if one of you is an AU on the other's MR cards, you could transfer MRs to the AU spouse's frequent flyer program. Both referral and incognito methods would net your household the same amount of points, but it just depends where you want those points for ease of redemption.

Ok. I am clearly lacking in some computer skills, lol. How are you changing the Internet VPN location setting? I'm not seeing any obvious way to do that in settings, etc. I'm wondering if it is because I am on my work computer. I'll try again tonight on my home computer that doesn't have firewalls, etc., but any guidance you can give as to the "how to" would be much appreciated. I did manage to pull up a 25K offer on the Everyday card, so I'm thinking I could do that and the 50K Premier Rewards Gold if I can manage to pull it up. That's a lot less annual fee, and also less MSR to meet for this gamble of being able to secure upgrades.

Thank you, that is helpful!

When I mentioned CIP, CIC, CIU, I was thinking of the signup bonuses only. As long as a 24 month rule remains in affect on those cards in 2 player mode you can generate 400k URs ever 2ish years by alternating apps between players for all 3 cards.

Just a heads up - The CreditJourney dashboard doesn't seem to factor in closed accounts - I checked DW's CJ and it said 3 accounts opened in last 24 months - which I knew wasn't true. So I looked at the accounts page, and all 5 accounts opened in the past 24 months were showing, but the dashboard obviously ignored the two that had been opened AND closed within the the last 2 years.

I got all excited for a minute, thinking that if Chase thinks she was only 3/24 then we should be good to go for a DD - alas 'tis not the case but only one more month to wait. Just have to hope Chase doesn't do anything new in the meantime to stop DD. :rolleyes2

Hmm...I am 5/24 according with one closed account. I will have to look at Credit Journey again and see which cards are there.

Have you closed any new cards in the last 2 years? Because the number they put on the front of the Credit Journey that says accounts opened will not include those but will still count against 5/24. I just pulled my Experian. Chase pulled from there and also from Equifax. On Experian they did list opening dates on the 1st of the month but Equifax listed the actual date. Also, I believe I said a few weeks ago that I didn't think Amex pulled anything for my first card because I check both Credit Karma and Credit Journey and someone mentioned maybe Experian was pulled. Yes, Amex pulled from Experian only. May I just say I totally do not get the need for 3 credit bureaus. Is there a reason for having 3?

I am fairly certain I am 5/24 with one closed account. I have to check...hope I am not 6/24

Ask your kids. lol I have no idea if this is what @Lain is talking about but I know my kids know how to change the "location" of their computer. AP scores are released by state, which is silly, because I am sure all AP kids know the trick of changing their state to check their scores on the first day.

@GZanta77 and @WVMomof3 - I am confused. I checked Experian and am definitely at 5/24 with one closed card. Credit Journey tells me on my Home page that I have 5 opened cards within the last 24 months. If they are not counting my closed card, shouldn't that say 4 opened cards?

I cannot see how to tell where on Credit Journey those 5 opened cards are listed. When I look under credit report it lists all my cards. Is there a place where they just list what they have recorded for the 5/24 cards?

Edit: Does Credit Journey count my car loan in the 5/24? That is the only thing that makes sense.

Credit Journey is inaccurate. According to CJ, I'm 3/24. I most definitely am not. Check Credit Karma and count the cards you've opened in the past 2 years there.
