I love credit cards so much!

From what I understood from @crazymomof4 post is that when they applied for the credit cards they put the same rapid rewards account # in the application. Different social security #'s obviously as one card is in her name and one in her DH's, but I guess when you apply they don't check to see if the applicant and rapid rewards accounts are the same person or they allow it. You can not share rr points after they hit your separate accounts. You can "gift" iirc but that's not usually a good deal.
Exactly
As to the sentence in bold- From what I got from the SW Cust Serv Rep they allow it. She just matter-of-factly said, "yes mam. Whenever you apply for a SW cc, during the application process you have the option of choosing which RR acct you wish the cc to be linked to"
I would assume then, IF you DON'T choose one during the application process then a brand new and separate RR acct will be automatically assigned/linked to the new cc. But at that point, it would be a free-standing RR acct and not linkable or shareable with any other RR acct.
It never came up in our travels (bc I'm always one of the ones flying) but am I correct in assuming that if you use points from a RR acct for travel then one of the persons traveling on that trip must be the RR account holder?

No. I've made multiple reservations with my points for other family members and there is no need for me to be present on the flight.

Hmmm Just remembered waiting a while for Chase SW cc to transfer the bonus points to my RR acct after I'd reached the spending requirement. Looked it up and the Terms & Conditions say "Allow 6-8 weeks for the bonus points to post to your Rapid Rewards account". So it could actually be 5 months (3 mo to reach req'd spending + 2 mo for points to post) from now before the CP is awarded? So we're talking possibly Nov? Then the CP awarded would only be useable for a short time in the 2017 calendar year + 2018. Am I correct in this?

I do believe this is correct. There was some discussion (earlier on this thread or perhaps another thread) about the best time to get the CCs being in October, so the CP is awarded in January or February. The increased sign-up bonuses have caused some people to apply now, I think.

It's a case by case basis and ultimately goes back to what your plans and goals are. The standard advice to to apply later in the year, so you meet your min spend and points post in Jan of the following year, meaning you can effectively get it for two years. However, this is generally under the 40/50K sign up bonus assumptions, which means to get CP you have to produce another 26K/6K of organic spend after the min spend depending on what the bonus is at the time around the end of the year. Most are taking advantage now because you are getting CP just by getting two cards.

Yes. All the things you mentioned are to be taken into consideration for sure! I can't help but wonder (its the skeptic in me) if SW times to release of the higher bonus points promo for mid-year for this very reason.

Good to know. IF DH ever flies anywhere w/o me (prob not but...) I can make the ressies for him using my RR acct.

For those of us working on the SW CP, if we meet the MS in the first month, will we get the companion pass early, or do we have to wait until the end of the 3 months regardless?

You won't have to wait the 3 months. My miles posted a few days after the statement closed for the month I met my spending, and as soon as you have 110,000 miles the CP is automatically activated.

Good info! Thanks!

We only have the one RR# but the 2 SW cc's were separate (probably we are AU on each other's tho). One came addressed to me the other to DH. It just automatically set up that way. I was surprised when I earned the bonus points on the 2nd card that they deposited into the pre-existing RR account. To my recollection, I didn't do anything to make that happen-- I actually expected them to go to 2 separate RR accounts.
When you apply for the business card, do they ask for some proof of running a business? Like a business card or website or ebay seller name? I DO sell on amazon and ebay and also walk a dog along with my DD. (actually her job but I go along for the exercise and her safety.)

I got a the business card a few weeks ago for my uh, brand new ebay business... I put $200 as the business income.

As far as the $200 Disney offer, is it a $200 statement credit that you receive after spending the $500 or is it a $200 gift card that you receive and only redeemable for anything Disney?

Thanks
Both offers are available for the Disney Premier card (the one with the $49 annual fee). On the Disneyland website they have the offer for the $200 statement credit, but if you go to the Chase website you can find the offer for the $200 gift card. If you do a search on the internet you may be able to find a link to the no annual fee Disney Rewards card that offers a $200 gift card after the minimum spend. I have both :)

If you get the credit cards and receive a companion pass on SW does the companion pass apply if you use SW points to book the first person's flight or is only good when you pay cash for the ticket?

You can use your Companion Pass to book a ticket for your Companion regardless of how you paid for your flight - cash, points, vouchers, gift cards - it doesn't matter.

soooo....according to the intel here- I (and a bazillion others on the 'net) can now input our own RR # into a SWA cc app,and the new points will go go my account, instead of say,my spouses? This sounds unreal.Technically then I can ask my entire family to do this, and their bonus points can be mine, for free?

Yeah, despite what customer service told crazymomof4, I doubt it's truly allowed. Like I could have me, DH, my mom, the neighbor, all share one RR account? I think she hit a lucky glitch, someone not paying attention. Doesn't mean I won't give it a try if I apply though.

What is a good cc for DD to apply for? She just got her first professional job out of college and currently has the Capital One Journey, which she opened last year. Credit score is 708 and her income is now 52,000. She was going to ask for an increase in her credit limit on the Journey but I'm thinking she may be better off getting a card with a sign up bonus or better rewards. She does fly Southwest a few times a year so I was thinking maybe the SW Plus to get the 60,000 points. Thanks in advance for any help.

I am getting very close to retirement. Actually I could have retired two years ago, but wasn't mentally ready.

Now, I am seriously considering it within 1 year.
I will have some income from pensions (2) and the old ss check adds a little as well. I also have income from my retirement savings. I will be comfortable, with a paid off home and cars and more money coming in than actual expenses. Health care won't be a problem.

I've always been a minor credit card junkie. Apply for the points, meet minimum spend and toss it in the sock drawer.

Thought I was beyond all of that but now I am seeing a way to fund more travel. (I didn't bother opening this thread for a long time, now I'm glued to it!)

Do you think the fact that I will be retired will have an impact on approvals?

My fico scores are all good - 838, and 850 - amex and my credit union show them on my accounts.

My mom is retired and has had no issues getting any of the cards I tell her to apply for. Her most recent was the CSR.

If SW is an airline she wants to utilize then that would be a good bet. That is unless she has specific goals of where she'd like to go and wants to begin accumulating the points and miles to get there. Chase may take her length credit history into account with regards to approval. It's a YMMV.

I've seen it posted on this thread a few times to start in late October or November so the points are posted after you meet the minimum spend (presumably January).

Yet, I downloaded a guide from a popular travel writer and this is what she says, "*Don’t start accumulating Rapid Rewards Points for a Southwest Companion Pass after October/November. Wait until January."

So I'm confused. She says people get burned by not having enough points post in one year, and all their hard work evaporates on Jan. 1 when they have to start over.

I'm not applying for the SW now because I want the CP to be good in 2019, so is it safe to begin working on this late fall this year, or not?

Yes. It's my experience (2 cc's one in my name, one in DH's both depositing into one RR acct- this is confirmed) and the SW cust serv rep told me it's possible to link an existing RR acct to a new CC application
BUT>>>
I am always leary of one ONE phone rep tells me! I once called Comcast's customer service FIVE times (on purpose, kind of an experiment) with the same question and I kid you not, I got 5 different answers to the same question! And we ALL know how unreliable any info from Disney's phone reps can be. (Omg the variety of info I received on my many calls about the Wishes Dessert party of 2014 trip! It literally became the joke of a thread on the subject). So definitely YMMV. Just bc it's the case with me doesn't mean it will be for others or even if it will happen again with me when I apply for 2 more SW cc's.

ETA- If anyone else is interested... maybe try calling SW cust serv. I'd be very interested in hearing what info others are given on this matter. If it turns out to be the consensus of several other SW reps then maybe in fact a change to the policy HAS been made. (???)

You've read this happening to others, elsewhere on the 'net? I'm interested. Can you elaborate?

I'm wondering tho, if other factors come into play as to DH and I being OK'd to "share" a RR acct. Maybe same home address, status: married, or each of us being AU on each other's CC's? Who knows.

I hear you! Here is some more food for thought on the subject.

That was my original plan, BUT..... Chase currently has a limited time sign up bonus offer of 60,000 points for both the plus and premier. Ends June 29th I believe. If you get both you automatically meet the 110,000 point requirement to get the CP without any additional spending. In your case, you should apply in October but don't meet your minimum spends on both cards until January. You'll have to watch your billing cycles. It may be you can meet the ms in Dec if it posts in January but that would make me nervous. You also don't want to fail to meet the 3 months billing cycles so I would make sure I knew my dates.
