I love credit cards so much!

I've seen it posted on this thread a few times to start in late October or November so the points are posted after you meet the minimum spend (presumably January).

Yet, I downloaded a guide from a popular travel writer and this is what she says, "*Don’t start accumulating Rapid Rewards Points for a Southwest Companion Pass after October/November. Wait until January."

So I'm confused. She says people get burned by not having enough points post in one year, and all their hard work evaporates on Jan. 1 when they have to start over.

I'm not applying for the SW now because I want the CP to be good in 2019, so is it safe to begin working on this late fall this year, or not?
It depends on how fast you meet spend. If you start in October, and it takes 2 months, your points will post in December making it useless for January. The spend is only 2k for SW card. Some months, especially December, I can meet that in 1 month. Better off January to start if that's the case.

That was my original plan, BUT..... Chase currently has a limited time sign up bonus offer of 60,000 points for both the plus and premier. Ends June 29th I believe. If you get both you automatically meet the 110,000 point requirement to get the CP without any additional spending. In your case, you should apply in October but don't meet your minimum spends on both cards into January.
I contemplated doing the sign up now, but I don't anticipate any flights through the end of this year. I may have to work a little harder to get those points, but I'll have the CP when I can really use it--summer 2018 and 2019.

:scared: Yikes! Maybe I'll apply in December, or even January!

Anyone using Plastiq to pay rent/mortgage? Saw a DP on reddit from someone whose transaction posted on 6/4 to his CSR and didn't code as 3x travel. Of course, there's a contradictory DP for another transaction that posted on 6/4 and did earn 3x. I'd be interested to know how your transactions going forward are coding either way. I'd hate to see this quick earner end!

Ugh, I hope it isn't ending. My June payment posted 5/28 and it did code as travel so I'm not much help there since I was several days earlier. I have an aunt who is paying her mortgage with plastiq using the CSR. I'll check with her.

I have a SW card as my only CC. Have had it for years and always paid it off every month. DH's salary has been cut considerably this year and that combined with a ton of medical bills for my DD has left me with an 6.5k balance on my account. I'm paying off about $1500-2000 per month and trying not to put too much more on the card. DH has an Amex Platinum and may also be interested in switching cards.

I want to transfer my balance to a no interest introductory, no/low annual fee card to pay it off. Would also like no fee or a minimal fee to transfer my balance. Less interested in travel benefits right now as we're not going anywhere till this debt is paid off but would like any other possible bonuses. Any suggestions for a new card? Our credit scores are excellent.

I would say Chase Slate is the best for balance transfers because it charges no transfer fee for the first 60 days. Most cards charge 2-5% of the balance. It also has $0 annual fee and gives you 0% for 15 months.

I don't see the point of a rewards card for balance transfers, since you would never get rewards on the transferred amount and none of the good balance transfer cards offer a sign up bonus.

I'm not sure entirely on balance transfer but I know chase freedom and freedom unlimited have introductory balance transfers. might be worth looking at.

Before you apply for a Chase card to do a balance transfer verify that Chase will allow a balance transfer from one Chase card to another.

the SW cust serv rep told me it's possible to link an existing RR acct to a new CC application
You can definitely link an existing RR account to a new card application, but everything I've read states the account has to have the same name as the person applying for the card. I've had a RR account for 10 years, and when I applied for the Plus and Premier cards last December I included my account number in the applications so all the miles would go to the same place.

My June payment posted 5/28 and it did code as travel
Same here. I hope it isn't over, but I can't imagine why it was set up this way to begin with, so I wasn't expecting it to last.

Barclaycard Ring MC has 0% with no fees on balance transfers within first 45 days.
Your situation is something I fear. DHs job keeps cutting and we have high deductible insurance. Good luck.

As far as the $200 Disney offer, is it a $200 statement credit that you receive after spending the $500 or is it a $200 gift card that you receive and only redeemable for anything Disney?

Thanks
I got the card on May 1st and it was a $200 statement credit.

.
Yep. The RR Terms and Conditions state: Membership in the Rapid Rewards program will be granted by Southwest Airlines and is for individual travelers only. Individuals must enroll separately and may not pool or combine points with other Members
That's why I'm curious as to why points from DH's cc and the cc in my name "pool" into MY RR acct. After she confirmed that the 2nd cc had DH as Primary Cardholder, I specifically asked the SW rep, "If the card is in his name why are the points going into MY RR acct?" I added, "I'm not upset or complaining about this, I'm just curious" That's when she answered, that I must have put my RR acct # on the application for DHs card.
So its probably a glitch, oversight on SW's part.

Here's another weird tidbit.... DH's card is listed as the Primary cc on MY RR acct!

You've read this happening to others, elsewhere on the 'net? I'm interested. Can you elaborate?

I'm wondering tho, if other factors come into play as to DH and I being OK'd to "share" a RR acct. Maybe same home address, status: married, or each of us being AU on each other's CC's? Who knows.
No- I said "I and others on the 'net can use this loophole"...... etc etc- to crazymom0f4 I'd stop asking lol and just enjoy it- I'm 99.99% sure it's a glitch, but it works in your favor. Sometimes not pointing it out is the smartest way to keep something you like:thumbsup2

Are you reading my mind??? As I started posting about this again, my curiosity began to grow again and I thought, "I'm gonna call and ask A SECOND rep and see what answer I get" and then I immediately thought.... "NOPE! Leave it alone, dummy!" :tiptoe:

I'm thinking about applying for the SW RR Plus card. Planning to use the 60,000 points for a trip to South Florida in December. Wondering how easy/hard it is to use SW RR points to get tickets. Are there lots of restrictions? How many points should I expect to need for a RT ticket in peak season?

If there's a seat available on the flight, you can book it with points. The amount of points is directly tied to the cash price of the ticket (points are worth roughly 1.4 cents each).

You should be able to search your flight on SW's website right now and see how many points it will cost.

Using RR points is incredibly easy. Only restriction is if there are tickets available. You can look on the website to see how many points you will need. At the top of the fare column, you can click on points and it will show you how many points for a particular fare.

Mine posted on 05/31 & I got the 3x. Maybe it ended the end of May. I went ahead & paid my July payment because I was afraid it would end.

I almost went ahead and paid July too. Kicking myself that I didn't!
