I love credit cards so much!

Did anyone with the non-fee Disney Rewards Visa get the email about using it for internet, phone, insurance, TV, and utilities bills between April 1st (and I get it on May 30th, nice) and August 31st and earning 4% in Disney Dream Dollars (or whatever they're called?)

I wish I had gotten that email on March 30th instead of May 30th.

Can anyone tell me the time frame for SW points to be credited for paid flights? We are about 900 points shy of CP. I was thinking of booking our outgoing flights to Orlando using points for 1 ticket and paying OOP for the other two in the hopes that our points for those tickets would credit before the end of the week and I'd have CP and be able to book all three return flights while at Disney. Is this just a crazy plan??? Does someone need to talk me off the ledge? LOL
My understanding is that your RR points for paid flights do not credit until after the travel takes place - it should be within a few hours after landing.

So if that's the case, if our paid flight is on the 3rd, we could have the points posted in time to book flights on points to return on the 10th?

I think so yes. :) When are you going?

Update: I used CSR to pay my June rent via Plastiq and it coded as a travel purchase. I got the 3X points, and the $300 credit posted the same day as the charge. :thumbsup2

ETA: The $450 AF hasn't shown up on my card yet; will it be charged on my first statement?

We're supposed to be checking in on Saturday (June 3rd). We're planning to come home the following Saturday (June 10th). I didn't know if I was crazy to go there with only our outgoing flights taken care of and bank on the points and CP posting in time to book our return flights.

Congrats!

And most likely, yes. My CSR AF posted toward the end of the billing cycle on my first statement.

When you 1st mentioned this I thought yes that is crazy, but I just checked your dates out of my airport just to see and there are a lot of open flights and there are actually some good deals on the return. So I stand corrected, not a bad plan. Hope it works out for you and you have a great time.

My BFF is the same!! But it stems from her mother telling her if someone steals her credit card they'll destroy her life :sad2: (And her mother actively uses credit cards!) We are years past college at this point and my BFF is still scared to death of credit cards because of what her mother told her and only uses debit. It kills me because she's saving money to fly a couple places and is incredibly responsible...

Oh that is a shame. Sadly, using a debit card is the riskiest financial thing one can do if they are concerned about fraud. If someone steals your debit card info they can wipe out your entire bank account. That is your money, not the bank's, so there is no incentive to try and get your money back. If they wipe you out the bank won't replace your money. If a thief makes a bunch of charges and wipes you out, the bank can take up to 20 days to investigate and if your mortgage, car payment money etc. is gone there is no recourse. If you report your card stolen within 48 hours you are liable up to $50 in charges but if you take longer than 48 hours you are liable for up to $500. If 60 days goes by you're responsible for all the charges.

If you use a credit card then you are protected. A fraudulent charge is the money that belongs to the bank, not to you. The credit card issuer will reverse the charges and you are not responsible for the fraudulent charge. You are only liable for up to $50 in charges, no matter how much is charged and usually no matter how long it takes to report the card stolen.

There were other people on a different thread that got the email when it was first announced back in mid March. Both non-fee and the Premier got them. We got our email and signed up. Funny that we also got the email today as well for the reminder to sign up. We have been getting the 4% back, so not sure why we got it again.

My heart couldn't take that! You've got guts, I hope you get an awesome deal!!

I (non-fee) didn't get it either time :(

Some debit cards are protected same as credit cards but I agree they incentive to return your money is not the same. Plus I'd rather have a bunch of charges on a credit card than wake up to an empty checking and/or savings account.

My BIL has a fatal quirk with his money management. When he sees a big CC bill, he cannot bear to pay it off and part with his cash. He pays only part, even if he has more than enough $, explaining why he had thousands in CC debt when my sister met him. She helped him get it all paid off, but if she has a CC card and the bill is $3k at the end of the month, he will only pay $500 even if they have 20k in checking account. And he won't do autopay because somehow "they" can take all your money. So debit cards it is. Nutso.

More info? ...With a specific credit card? Is this an insurance question? Disney refund? I'm sure someone here has an answer with a little more info! :)

Chase Sapphire Reserve. Grandma in ER, doc said she's on her final stages. Had a flight out to Japan tonight, both in and out flights are LCC so nonrefundable. Benefit department wants some kind of proof they can't cancel our tickets. Both airlines say to refer to their policies. Im not sure if thats enough. neither have email support so show proof that they won't cancel.

There are actually still 6 or 7 flights with availability through New Orleans. We went into this trip totally set on driving, but now that I'm so close to CP (and the drive takes about 10.5 - 12 hours depending on stops) I'm really considering booking flights instead. I'm just trying to figure out the best and most economical way to do this so last minute in order to obtain CP and still have time to book our return. As soon as I mentioned this to DH he starting sweating...LOL. I know he's having heart palpitations every time I mention it. I definitely need to make a decision by tomorrow so I can get something booked.

Someone in one of my FB groups reminded me about applying CP to an already booked flight. So in theory, I suppose I could pay cash for 2 of our flights to Orlando (1 ticket would only get me about 830 points and I need a little more for CP) and book the third ticket with points. Then if I book all three returning flights now with points, if the paid ticket points and CP post quickly enough I should be able to apply the CP to one of those return flights. It's a bit of a convoluted plan though, so I'm a little apprehensive. I'm guessing those points used on the third ticket would be credited back to my RR account, right?

I don't know about the trip insurance but just wanted to say how sorry I am about your grandma :(

Full disclosure: I have not used that benefit myself. But as time is of the essence I'll give you my take.

It sounds like it will have to be enough. When you booked the ticket did it say "non-refundable after this date"? Proof of loss right there. Airlines policies sound like they back that up? If so I'd submit those items and see what the Benefit Admin says. If the airlines policies state there is a form or something to fill out in this circumstance get that filled out and send it in. Follow the airlines written policies to the letter.

Review the CSR benefit guide here before submitting your claim to get an idea of what Chase is after. Info for you starts on the guide's page 12. https://www.chasebenefits.com/sapphirereserve

FWIW (double check for yourself) it looks to me like you have 20 days to submit this to Chase. If that's the case you can back-burner the Chase part of this for now if you need to.

I'm so sorry you and your family are going through this. My prayers are with you all.
