I love credit cards so much!

They've gone back & forth. They now offer the Red card credit & debit cards, but a couple years ago they offered a Red card MasterCard which some people still have.
Sears converted my card to a Citibank Sears card, which recently changed to Sears Citibank card with Thank You points.

heh, i have a prepaid debit Redbird card... :] Was using it to MS for awhile.

Learned something new, Chase travel only allows Chase cards... lol :P

I know, I was too for the SW but I called and they approved it without really any questioning. I'm sure you won't have issues.
Was that for the business card? Did you wait for the letter to come in the mail with the reason for the decline?

I have a question for those who have the Citi Double Cash Card.....I was going to sign up today, but then I saw a few bad reviews. The main thing that people were complaining about is that there is a "catch" to getting the 1% cash back when you pay. Does anyone have any insight on this? Is it really a hassle like I've seen a lot of people state? Thanks for any info.

I am also curious about Citi cards. I feel like I should get one since the sign-up bonuses are churn-able but none of them seem very appealing. Any recommendations? I do have the Citi Costco card that I got by default when the AmEx Costco was continued, but no other Citi cards.

Here is the info from their website on how to earn cash back with the Citi Double Cash card.

How do I earn cash back with my Citi Double Cash card?
When you buy something, you earn 1% cash back, and we add the purchase amount into your Purchase Tracker, which is shown on your billing statement and is also available when you sign on to citicards.com. Then, when you make a payment that is at least the minimum due amount, the Purchase Tracker is reduced by that payment amount, and you earn 1% cash back on the payment. Any payment amount that is equal to or less than the amount in your Purchase Tracker will earn cash back. And because we track your purchases with the Purchase Tracker, you can earn cash back on your payments over time. For example, if you make $1,000 in purchases in a statement period, you will earn 1% in cash back on those purchases, and you will have $1,000 in your Purchase Tracker. Then, if you pay $500 towards that statement, you will earn 1% on that $500 payment, and you will have $500 left in your Purchase Tracker. This means that the next $500 you pay can earn cash back.

Basically, you will earn the 1% on payments made as long as the payment is equal to or less than the "purchase tracker" amount. Hope that make sense. I'm assuming this is what some people mean by a "catch" to getting the 1% back on payments.

I have the citi double cash card and it's crazy how fast the rewards balance adds up.

I'm not sure what the catch people are referring to is. I charge during the month and pay the balance off multiple times per month. I don't carry a balance. It won't let you prepay if that is what people are referring to. You can only pay for what you've spent.

If these are no fee cards and you have had them for a long time, I would not close them. It would negatively affect your AAoC and impact your score. Not sure what the reasoning would be to turn them back into store cards vs leaving them as is. Unless of course you planned on maxing out your allowable Amex personal cards.

I was basically looking to lessen the number of cc's that I have because I will be applying for ones with better point rewards...

Yes the business card, and I did wait for the letter (which took a painfully long time to receive). I wanted to dissect their reasoning for denial. I applied for both the same day, the letter indicated too many new cards or something. The rep indicated it was probably because I applied for both the same day. She did not ask any business related questions. Asked me how much I wanted on the credit line and confirmed my address.

Ah, I see. There is no need to get rid of your older cards. As @Lain said, that's what sock drawers are for :-) I have over 30 and most are in a drawer. Closing your cards will also lower your credit score. The available unused credit limit on each card contributes to your credit utilization ratio. If I have one credit with a limit of $1,000 and I spend $500 I have a 50% utilization ratio and my score will plummet. If I have 10 cards and each has a $1,000 credit limit and I spend $500 then I have a 5% utilization ratio and my score will be higher.

Do the store cards still exist? I know back when I had a Target store card they changed over to visa and didn't have a just Target store card any more.

Target most definitely has a store card. They have for years.

It was a visa for awhile because I had one. They changed it to the visa from the store card, if there was an option at that point to keep it as a store card they didn't tell you. So they must have gone back to it being just a store card, but they had a visa for several years.

I think Target has 2 options now but I don't know if the consumer has any say in what they get- a store card and a Mastercard. A fam member was automatically upgraded to a Target MC last year and their limit was quadrupled.

They intermittently offer MC & a debit card. When I applied, the application form offered MC but when I went on the website it said they weren't offering it "at that time." Ditto for debit card which my sister has, as she & her husband use only debit cards because credit cards are evil. :sad2:

Oooh, you've got my hopes up now!

Quick (possibly dumb) question. If I apply for2 Amex cards the same day, will that decrease the approval chance? I want to get the Hilton promo and I have also received a delta offer.

My Target store card was upgraded last year to a MC as well. I also had a huge hike on my credit limit. However, I recall receiving a letter notifying me of the upgrade and I was given the option to opt-out if I did not want the MC. Similar situation with DHs Best Buy store card being upgraded last year.

From what I've seen, it may be to your benefit to apply for two Amex cards on the same day because this will combine two hard pulls of your credit report down to one. Approval or denial of an app can happen for any number of reasons. I had an Amex application go to pending because, ultimately, they just wanted to verify my address and phone number. If you apply for the first Amex card, and are approved, I'd definitely apply for the second on the same day, hope for approval or pending, and recon if denied.

My BFF is the same!! But it stems from her mother telling her if someone steals her credit card they'll destroy her life :sad2: (And her mother actively uses credit cards!) We are years past college at this point and my BFF is still scared to death of credit cards because of what her mother told her and only uses debit. It kills me because she's saving money to fly a couple places and is incredibly responsible...

Can anyone tell me the time frame for SW points to be credited for paid flights? We are about 900 points shy of CP. I was thinking of booking our outgoing flights to Orlando using points for 1 ticket and paying OOP for the other two in the hopes that our points for those tickets would credit before the end of the week and I'd have CP and be able to book all three return flights while at Disney. Is this just a crazy plan??? Does someone need to talk me off the ledge? LOL
