I love credit cards so much!

Never again... I went to the same restaurant two nights in a row this weekend (only restaurant in this town where my horse show was). They let me use amex the first night and then the second night told me they didn't take it... o_O Apparently they CAN take Amex, the boss just doesn't want them to and the waitress didn't realize it was amex the first night before she swiped it.

I'm never sure what's worse, not taking it/advertising that you don't take it or this arbitrary behavior where they'll take it but it has to be $10/20/100 min purchase or, in your case, works some days and not others. I know there were many agreements before that outlawed that behavior, if you accepted their card you had to accept it for all purchases no matter the size, but not sure if that's still in there or not because I see that min purchase in many more places than before. Maybe if it still is enforcement is way down so people just try their luck. Likewise the agreements used to stipulate that you couldn't call it a CC surcharge or fee, if you wanted different cash/credit pricing it had to be listed as a cash discount or something that didn't imply a CC fee. I notice that's changed too as many places call it outright a fee for CC payments. (i'm ok with either, i'm smart enough to know what it is regardless of wording) I thought also maybe it had to be the same fee/discount for all CC's. And the whole reasoning was to not discourage CC use or favor a brand over another if you accepted multiple.

Used to be able to report the business for violations, if that's all still part of the agreements. I have considered doing it to a few places but usually they were the ones that had other practices that caused them to shut down without me needing to lift a finger :)

Add me to the Delta rescheduling list! We booked a Delta award flight through Air France from SFO to LHR with a layover in SLC. i received notification through Delta of a flight change resulting in a slightly longer layover in SLC. Bummer but there wasn't anything better. I also received a scary sounding email from Air France about a change in my itinerary telling me to call. It came a day or two later, and I was just going to ignore since the Delta change was fine with me, but I ended up calling. Good thing! Air France said I was required to call in and affirm the change or they would have canceled. The frustrating part is that i wasn't able to do it online. I had to call. I told them that was not a great policy for a minimal change, but FYI in the future if this ever happens to any of you.

I like the concept of having to affirm the change, that way they know you received the notice and aren't going to be calling them up to yell at them later. But really, can't you give me a check box on my reservation if it's that minor? Baby steps I guess.

To double dip or not... that is my question. :) I posted last week but didn't really get too many replies so thought I would ask one more time.

About my situation:
  • Looking for a new card as I am about to spend a lot to refurnish my house post-divorce (need to do this in the next 4 weeks)
  • Tried for the CIP on June 24 and got denied for being over 5/24 (stupid, stupid mistake). Went through reconsideration, still denied due to things about my "lack of revenue".
  • Got credit report cleaned up and I am now at 3/24.
  • Reduced Chase credit line on Disney Visa.. is now 10% of my annual income.
  • Credit score took a hit from my recent refi, at 799 now so still good but not sure how high it needs to be.
Are there any downsides to the double dip minus the higher spend? I think I can meet the 8K and it would give me enough bonus points to fly for free on our Feb trip to WDW. But I am worried again about getting denied... I would rather have just the CSR then nothing! Also can someone tell me how you double dip.. do I literally apply for them back to back? Doesn't Chase see this as a loophole?

THANK YOU GUYS!!

When will your next card drop off? If you double dip now you’ll be at 5/24. You could get a personal...now 4/24...then double dip...

My wife applied for SW plus and premier cards back in late January. We want to sign her up for the CSR CSP double dip. How long should she wait to give her the best chances of being approved? She is currently at 2 or 3/24 (I'll have to double check.)

You sure you don’t want to try for the CIP again? If you do the double dip you would be over 5/24 and then can’t try for it.

The double dip is just applying for the cards back to back. You will probably have to use a different web browser. If you prefer the CSR do that one first. Another downside to the double dip is they will likely approve you for a limit and then lower both your card limits. I didn’t really care about this because I don’t need a high limit on the cards. I got approved for like 25k and 17k. They got reduced to 4K each.

Important question: Will some kind of brand loyalty ghost come out of nowhere and start haunting me if I pay for my $900 Marriott stay on Hilton Amex...

Man, I'm tired of this $5k MSR :rotfl2:

I know this was sort of tongue-in-cheek but it makes me curious, are there any hotel cards that are better to use at the specified hotel (like a Marriott card at a Marriott hotel) rather than use the CSR? It seems to me that the value of the hotel cards is the sign-up bonus rather than using at the specified hotel, but I've only figured out the difference once, for a Hilton stay.

No other Chase cards since Jan? I think over 6 months is a safe wait. So she should be good to go.

Does she have a CIP? Have you considered referring her for that card first (especially if she’s 3/24 which means a double dip would place her at 5/24).

apply for CSR, push it through if u get 30 days, apply for CSP afterwards, push that through as well.

agreed. everything seems to be in order for a 2nd dip. just dont apply for anything else until Feb 2019.

As always, it depends on what your goal is. URs are super flexible, but if you are looking to get Starriott points, using a Starriott card at the hotel nets a decent return of 5 points per dollar. If you were to transfer URs to Marriott points, you would only get a transfer of 1 to 1, so you wind up with more Starrriot points by using a co-branded card instead of the CSR. Also, booking with URs doesn't get you status perks, or credit towards status for the next year. So if you have Starriott status, and are looking to keep it, it can be a better deal to collect and use those points over CSR. I'm sure there are similar considerations with other hotel brands.

I like URs, and generally use my CSR for hotels, but if I'm at a Starriott I will use my SPG Biz instead.

Many thanks to those who answered my many DL questions! We are loving our trip. We have a room on the 11th floor of Sheraton Park facing DL so we watched the fireworks from there last night. Club Access is awesome and I am so going to miss that perk with SPG Biz :( We enjoyed the free wine, beer and apps last night and the buffet breakfast at the restaurant. Yesterday learning MaxPass took a minute but it worked awesome today! So worth the $10 per person to just be able to do the next one in line after we used it. It is hot, hot, hot! So not looking forward to the drive back to Phoenix on Wed. Thanks again for all of your help!

I wish I had not read this because I think I messed up. I noticed the Sam's offer in my saved offers on two cards. I convinced myself that I either must have not used them or got the offer again and just didn't remember. So, I placed another order. I checked my account history today and I did use them in June and got credited. Whoops.

Well, let us know if you get the credit on your second order! I just realized its online only so can't give it to my daughter to do instore for me.

With absolutely no hard math to back me up on this, it is worth my while to pay with Marriott card for Marriott stays and Hilton card for Hilton stays- especially when there's a promotion running. There are 3x points on my Hilton card this month when I pay for my stay with that, so I'll come out pretty well on that cash booking. With Marriott at 5x and about to jump to 6x in August, I think that's a good value so long as you know you will be using that Marriott points. People on Reddit may have concrete math to prove me wrong, but I think for a lot of us we support just using it for the value we actually appreciate.

Yea, the change happened roughly a month or so ago, roughly around the same time the personal Visa cash advance non-sense was introduced. The last two payments I made (I don't schedule them), I had to change "Finance" to "Fin." and it goes through fine. Seems like there's some kind of algo. that associates "Finance" with mortgage lol.

That makes sense! I paid it early in June because we were leaving for our CA trip and wouldn't be back until it was too late to send it in. I got the same error as @vanjust14 saying it was a mortgage.

I think you are fine to go for the DD. You will be 5/24 after though and locked out for awhile, which is ok cause you want to lay off Chase for a bit anyways after that.

If the CSR is your first choice, apply and call recon if necessary to get the approval. Once that is done, switch browsers and apply for the CSP. You can call recon on that one as well, if not immediately approved. Do it soon while still in business hours and GOOD LUCK!!

Does anyone know the best way to order a MacBook through Apple to maximize points? Last time I went through chase portal to get double points. Not sure if that was the best. This time I am using my Hyatt card I just got, wasn’t sure if the shopping portals worked on cobranded cards? Or should I do something like the Southwest portal someone mentioned earlier? Haven’t looked into this at all yet, but DD just got back from Thailand and is now in a hurry to get things ready for leaving for college. Hope we didn’t wait too long, I remember watching the tracking on my last DDs MacBook and it literally took the slow boat from China. Took forever to get here. I think it got here right before classes, but she goes to school 20 minutes from home. This DD is going 7 hours away, so needs to get here before she leaves!
