@Albort I read through your bank bonus guide on reddit, very helpful, thanks!

Since I missed out on the Fidelity bonus, decided I should branch into bank bonuses...applied for one tonight and went into a pending status. Hoping that once I get the hang of it, they will be easier, but lots of requirements to follow. I don't think I would be brave enough to try it if not for Albort's guide and Doc of credit.

heh, wasnt me. credit goes to @gottalovepluto

if u fail a bank bonus, u fail, nothing comes to harm except for your bonus... keep trying! :]

She is a student. Hmm, good thought...Going to look at that. Discover was my first card while I was in college :D

Discover was mine too. It’s not a great bonus, but I’m pretty sure Chase likes to see a credit history before approving someone. I think I got the Chase amazon card about a year after my discover.

I did not see any kind of bonus?!?

Is there a referral on this card? Guessing not many here have it but if anyone does and could benefit from my dd using your link, let me know!

My DD19 just go the Discover IT a week ago. She has been an AU user on my cards and opened a card at her univerity’s credit union. The Discover card gives a nice $20 bonus each year of college for good grades too. Maybe they’ll be able to get a nice Chase card in a year or two. It’s so important for the college kids to establish credit.

Yes there are some links on the Reddit page. I think $50 with first purchase. They asked if you are a student and they get to pick the color of the card...my DD was all over it! Gold card ! LOL

My dd is gone a lot of this weekend but putting this on the list of things to do on Monday. Will check reddit before she applies!

Several of my kids have this card -- the different colors is a nice touch. I think the red is very pretty :)

ETA - the $50 sign-up bonus is not a lot, but with the cash-back match after the first year, it's essentially a 2% back everywhere card for that year. Plus it normally earns 2% on gas and restaurants, so that's 4% for the first year.

My dd uses my freedom for everything at this point so any extra she earns anywhere is awesome!

Usually 7-10 days unless they expedited, and then it's 2-3 days. Anxiously awaiting our next card too :)

I hope it shows up this weekend. There's a planner I'm waiting to buy.

Is that an email or something? It said that for mine too, so I was surprised when it showed up so quickly. That's their standard text for card delivery. But if it doesn't show up Monday I'd give a call to see where it is. Maybe you'll get lucky and it shows up tomorrow :)

I think it was just a standard thing that showed up the moment he was approved. Hoping it does show up this weekend - that would be great!

I need to get my DD19 her own card, but I am enjoying her earning me points so I haven't been very motivated. :rolleyes1

My DD got a CC when she was 18 from our credit union. She had a summer job (not paying much) and they gave her a low credit limit, but it's hers. Honestly I push her to put anything big on our AMEX since we want the points.

Do you think she really could get approved for a CIP with no real credit history, other than being an AU'er for a year on two of my cards? She couldn't even open the Fidelity account due to, I guess, having no real 'identity' :( I wish she could get a CIP. I'd be all over her getting that opened!

My dd has a 795 score and 3 cards all her own and was turned down for a sapphire card.

There is a bonus. I used a Dischurners link when I opened mine in January (a second one) $50 statement credit and double cash back at the end of your first year.

Discover was my first credit card and on my credit report is the one that shows up the longest and so gives the length of card history as excellent. DH had only one card when we got married and I added him as an AU so it shows up on his report as his longest credit card. Which really helps the overall rating. As long as you get the no fee one it is a great one to get since can just keep and build credit. We have talked about it before but after a super long period of neglect I really like my Discover now. I LOVED it last quarter last year when the bonus category was Amazon and Target. Good luck to her!

I know!!! I just opened it in May and it is crazy how much the interest is!!! Each interest deposit I do a double take! Why in the world did I wait so long to move over from Wells Fargo????
I know! I've been trying to convince DH of that. I've had my ally account about 4 years now... I have my paycheck direct deposit split to put my normal pay into checking and all ot/bonus into ally. DH says he wants a branch to go in and yell if any money goes missing :)

Discover It is a $50 statement credit plus double cash back. First card for me and DH. I do love their customer service!

Looking at your scenarios, I guess I could book the 5 nights before 8/1 for dates in 2019 and cross all my fingers and toes the dates work. We haven't figured out what we will do for 2019. I will have a full-time college kid so going in Sept isn't gonna work for us anymore :(

I assume if I book dates and it doesn't work, to move to different dates, I have to cancel and re-book?

Thank you again for helping me understand all this better. I appreciate it!!

Oh, got it, your travel dates aren't set and that makes it harder to plan. Hmm.

Yes, I'd assume you have to cancel and re-book...but the question then would be what would you be getting back??? You would've "spent" 96K SPG points (2 rooms x 5 nights), but the skeptical side of me is going to bet money that Marriott IT will not be able to find record of that in their system. Maybe you would get the full new value back in Marriott points? 2 x 4 (bc 5th night free) x 50K = 400K Marriott points? That would be terrific! If Marriott IT can keep track, then maybe all you get back is the straight 1:3 conversion 3 x 96K = 288K Marriott points. I'm gonna go ask on FT.

Good luck! I opened a Schwab account earlier this year and did the $100 bonus just because it was there, and once I saw how easy it was it's been off to the races. Bank bonuses can be so lucrative, just make sure you read all the fine print.

Will Amex continue to offer the SPG Biz? I can't recall what's going to happen to that cards after Aug. 1. DH is 9 nights short of becoming gold, I'm wondering if we need to get the SPG biz for him before Aug. 1. to earn the 10 nights.

Amex will continue issuing the SPG Biz (along with the SPG personal and lux) into 2019, when Marriott/Ritz-Carlton/SPG finally combine under a single brand, and presumably Chase will start issuing the mass consumer and premium consumer cards and Amex will issue the super premium consumer and business cards.

After 8/1, the SPG Biz will earn:
6x Marriott points at SPG/Marriott Hotels
4x Marriott points at U.S. restaurants
4x Marriott points at U.S. gas stations
4x Marriott points on wireless shipping services purchased directly from U.S. service providers
4x Marriott points on U.S. shipping purchases
2x 4x Marriott points on all other purchases.

I believe the SPG Biz will still carry the 2 elite stays and 5 elite nights that stack with other SPG/Marriott cards for 2018; but in 2019, that benefit changes to 15 nights that don't stack.
