I love credit cards so much!

I think if this works out I may have him refer me next time we want to apply. And that's a big if since he's stuck waiting for the credit to unfreeze right now. It was frozen on several sites.

Any tips would be helpful since we are real N00Bs at this and it's been at least 6-7 years since we even tried to get a new CC.

ETA - thanks for letting me know when they close. That should help.

As you may know by now, Chase has a so-called "one Sapphire rule," meaning that Chase will only approve new applicants for a Sapphire card (e.g., CSP and CSR) if they don't currently hold a Sapphire card and they haven't received a signup bonus on a Sapphire product in the past 24 months. You're good on that front. But under that rule, that means you can only get the CSP or the CSR, not both. Double dipping will get you around the "one Sapphire rule" by applying and getting approved for two Sapphire cards on the same day, before Chase’s system knows you’ve gotten two Sapphire cards. You’re essentially trying to get approved for a second Sapphire card before Chase’s system is updated to recognize that it already approved you for your first Sapphire card.

For a double dip, it's usually recommended to start applying early during regular business hours of a non-holiday weekday in case you need to call Chase reconsideration ("recon") or verification departments.

For personal cards, be sure you're not running afoul of the 2/30 rule: you can only have two Chase credit card applications every 30 days or you'll likely be denied.

Apply for the card you want first. If you're not instantly approved and perhaps got the we'll let you know in 30 days message, call the automated status line at 1-800-432-3117 to check the status of your application. If you still aren't approved, call recon at 1-888-270-2127 to get it approved. Mention you’re calling (only) about the first application, and ask what can be done to move the application towards approval. They'll likely ask you identity verification questions.

After that first card is approved, use a different internet browser or an incognito window for the second application (and you can even clear the history), so Chase doesn’t get your cookies crossed and think you’re submitting a duplicate application in error. If you're not insta-approved, you can try to wait it out by checking the automated status line after an hour or so, but if you're not approved then call recon again to get the second application approved on the same day as the first approval. If you have to call recon, mention that you are calling about the second card only, and ask how you can help get it approved. You don't want recon realizing you've just been approved for an earlier Sapphire. It's likely an issue with needing to move around credit lines in order to have enough available credit to open up a new card. (Not sure if you have any Chase cards from which you can move credit to a new card. You won't be able to move credit from the newly approved Sapphire card to a second card, nor should you try.) If the rep does mention the other Sapphire card, and asks why we need the two cards, a lot of us just say we want to separate expenses.

Good luck!

It says he's approved, welcome kit to come in 7-10 days. Hope that means we are all set with the first one.

2nd one says approved. Says 7-10 business days. So that's it? Is there something I need to do now?

Or do we just wait for them to arrive and then figure out which spending we should put on which card?

I want to send out a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has helped me get this far. :worship:

I have a reluctant spouse and a reluctant me... :rotfl2:

I was going to say same thing! I had to call in when I was setting up my CIP online account to get some verification code. I was so nervous! I hate calling. I am very introverted so I don’t like talking in person either! I dont mind the message boards as much, but even in here I don’t talk much. I think most of my DIS posts are from this thread.

Did someone here say they tried to sign up for the Fidelity account on their iphone and couldn't get it to work properly? Just told my mom about it but all she has is her iphone to use, no computer.

I did the Fidelity acct, but I'm not sure if I funded or not. It was too easy lol Should it show pending somewhere? I did a transfer from Navy Federal. I'll log in and check it again later.

Chase bank bonuses will appear on Tuesdays, correct? My ACH transfer went through today and I'm hoping that triggered it.

So all of us Swolphin fans can cry some more, I ran the math on my reservation in September.

For 6 nights at the Dolphin:
  • pre March @ 10kpts = 2.96cpp
  • March - July @ 12kpts = 2.47cpp
  • Aug @ 50kpts = 0.59cpp (x3 = 1.77cpp)
:sad::sad::sad:

Swan too, just for kicks:
  • pre March - July @ 12kpts = 3.39cpp
  • Aug @ 50kpts = 0.81cpp (x3 = 2.44cpp)
But at peak, they will be 60k points

Yes, that's it.

Assuming you double dipped the two Sapphire cards, Chase will likely expedite the CSR to you on their own, and the CSP will arrive a few days later via snail mail.

You might have caught some of today's discussion about this. There have been some reports from people who recently double dipped two of Chase's cards successfully, who receive a call or notice about a week later that Chase lowered the credit limits on both newly-approved cards. We figure this is because the automated system approves each card and assigns a credit line to that card independently, but when an applicant double dips two cards then Chase may realize later that it's extended too much credit to you on both cards so they take some credit back. This is a relatively new thing, because many double dippers here as recently as May have not had this experience. We're not sure if it's happening to everyone now, or just applicants who may be overextended or Chase deems risky for whatever reason.

:rotfl: LOL. They now sent him one for the Hyatt card. And he's thinking about it. I said it's too late.

As I mentioned above, Chase has a 2/30 rule that limits an applicant to two approved consumer cards in a 30 days period. DH's just been approved for 2 cards. If DH wants the Hyatt card, he'll need to wait at least 31 days to apply for it then.

It's great that DH is already thinking about more cards, but I would caution against a single player going after Chase's cards too hard, too fast. If DH goes for the Hyatt card next month, that'll be 3 Chase cards in a matter of just 2 months, and Chase may deem him a risk and there's a chance Chase could shut him down (close his cards and terminate their relationship with him). One of the great things about have 2 spouses applying (2 Player mode), is you two can take turns at cards, since Chase sees you two separately even though you can rely on the same household income. Alternating turns at applying for cards creates the appearance that neither spouse is going too hard, too fast, doubles up on the signup bonuses, and picks up referral bonuses too.

Yay!! Congrats! :cheer2:

All you need to do now is wait for your cards and get ready to spend $8k in 90 days and then watch your points roll in!

Got some good news on my Chase shutdown today. Conversation went something like this:

Chase case agent: We've done some research and we found the affiliate that closed your account was a Chase bank closed your checking and savings accounts on May 12, 2013.
Me: What? I didn't have a Chase checking and savings account in 2013, as I opened my first Chase banking account in 2017.
Chase case agent: These accounts were opened in a Florida branch.
Me: What? I am not a Florida resident, as I have lived in Texas all of my adult life and sure didn't open any accounts while there on vacation.
Chase case agent: Do you mind if I put you on a brief hold?
Chase case agent: I have requested your account to be re-reviewed, as it appears these accounts do not belong to you. We will be in touch with our findings.

I feel SO much better after this conversation. Don't know why these accounts were closed or associated with my name, but it doesn't matter if they get this cleared up. I have been worrying about this for a few weeks, as our vacation plans were going to feel the impact of being forced into 1 player mode. Hopefully, this will all be resolved soon.

I don't want to put the cart in front of the horse, but I think the next conversation should be that they are going to reopen my CIP and address what they are going to do about my MSR. I would have already met if my account hadn't been closed for 4 weeks. At a minimum, I expect them to extend the time line to meet, but it seems reasonable they should waive all or part of it, or at least give me some sort of UR compensation for this mix-up. Is that going too far?

Marriott/SPG Won’t Be Automatically Refunding Points Differences If Your Bookings Drop In Cost -- but "[p]lease contact [Marriott/SPG] for assistance moving your reservation to new category pricing."

TL;DR: Starriott won't automatically credit your points back for reservations at properties where the points have dropped, but it sounds like they will manually refund your points if you contact them directly.

Going to call about my Sheraton Waikiki reservation after August.
