I love credit cards so much!

DH has a random 14k MRs that we don't need for anything. I have no upcoming plans to start collecting MRs. Is the below redemption a decent idea? Would then take the WM GC to sams for Disney cards.

ETA: I see you can transfer to Hilton or SPG as well. Clearly I know nothing about MRs. Any thoughts on best plan?

It is less than $0.01 per point, so not the most amazing redemption. But if you have no plans for the MRs and would find value in the Disney GCs, then it might make sense to you.

1) You're totally fine. I always tell myself if I have to recon that $2k anticipated revenue I'm expecting good holiday sales this year ;) Anticipated revenue is a beautiful thing.

5) Our strategies are each different. I bank a lot and spend some. Some people bank it all because traveling isn't something they'll be doing for a couple years but they want to be ready to go when it's time, others churn and burn asap. The danger of banking points is devaluations. You can wake up any morning to the points redemption of any program having changed, it's part of the game and you have to accept that. The upside to having some points banked here, some there, is that when a trip pops up you have more ability to go if you have a broader variety of points to draw from. Lay out where you want to go and when and then research what points you would need to get there and what cards you would need to get the points.

Personally I'm over 5/24 and not looking back so I get an AA card with the transferable 9 digit code when no other cards catch my eye to put spend towards. I like my big AA bank because I know if I get a call from my crazy cousin in Europe saying "omg can you do my teaching job for the next month I screwed up my visa" (true store, alas she got her visa straightened out so I've still not gone to europe yet) or if some awesome hotel redemption pops up halfway around the world I can throw tons of AA miles at it and just go. I'm also on my way to a decent amount of SPG points being banked so I day-dream about spending those and my AA miles are probably what I'll use to get there to spend the SPG points! This type of goal works for me because: I'm single, no kids, flexible work schedule, I can meet spends using work spend. I literally have no idea what my life plan is a year from now so I spend points when I want to see friends and take them/my family to Disney and I bank the rest of the points for adventures down the road :) Our group here on the DIS is full of people with unique goals from churning. Some people want CASH, cash is king so cool, that's a plan too! Some people OMG NEED SW COMPANION PASS, that's a beautiful thing for those it's applicable to!, some people accumulate and use points for international first class flights because it's a splurge they love but don't want to pay the crazy cash prices. Are strategies are each different depending on our goals and circumstances :D
Not sure why but I thought you were married and had a couple kids :rolleyes2
And no matter what I still see @SouthFayetteFan as an “old” guy :rotfl2:

I got a money order at Walmart without any problems today with a VGC. No one threatened to shoot me either. Ever since the whole rumor that Walmart was stopping VGC’s I haven’t had the chance to go. I’m done with school now so I hope I can still max the Discover grocery category on SO’s card.

Yep, i also posted a week or so after I tried myself at a local WM and had no issues running 2K through. It almost felt easier lol. The cashier was extremely chatty.

On another note, joining the dance party because I was just approved for the CIC after submitting the app last night!

:cool1::dancer:party::jumping1:

This will be my third and I guess credit lines weren’t an issue this time since I got 12K. I did proactively lower the limit on the Marriott Biz I got in February though to $2.5K, so I’m at 50% now between personal and business. My stats are 3/24, with a CIP in 7/17, and the Marriott Biz 2/18. Now time to figure out if I want the Plat or another card before I cool it for a bit to try for CP after ours through DH expires this year.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites Fallsview, in a falls view room. It's on the Canadian side. It was not budget, but it did include a huge breakfast, and the view was absolutely incredible!
I am sure you could still enjoy visiting without that, it was just something we wanted to do. There were fireworks over the falls so it was beautiful to be able to watch them from our room (HUGE windows and chairs in front of them). In general though, there is much much more to do on the Canada side than the US Side.

Just had a sad conversation with some of similarly aged peers in my office. One of our older coworkers is on vacation this week in Maui. I commented at lunch that I would love to go to Maui and was sort of thinking to myself how could I make that happen. My coworkers chimed in that this coworker makes about 30k a year more than us (rightly so with 20 more years of experience), and that we won't ever be able to afford such a trip because of our student loans and lower salaries. Just as I was thinking I might drop into the conversation, "maybe I could use some credit card airline miles to get out there," one coworker chimed in with "yeah, I can't even get my credit card debt paid down so I definitely won't be taking any vacations." :( While I recognize that I'm fortunate to have DH who does make more than me, but certainly not a crazy amount of money, it's sad that so many people my age are already struggling with money, AND don't know about this hobby (which obviously I would never encourage anyone to take part in if they have credit card debt).

I wonder why you'd want to do that. When my DD18 was under 18, I'd ask for a pass to go through with her...even at 16 and 17. I just wanted to stay til she boarded. They never gave me any issues with it. Now she has flown enough that she just goes through on her own.

My only thought was parents. As my parents get older, I could see wanting to be sure they got to the right gate. Not sure if they allow a pass for 70+ age folks.

Hmmnn, ok. I guess between the MRs and the 4% discount at sams, I was looking at it as free Disney money. I think I will let them sit there until I actually need the dis giftcards in case I need them for something else instead.

I remember less than 4 months ago, you were so worried you’d run into issues if you applied for cards with that business!

Totally!! I was just worried that if I had to recon for any reason and explain the business that the agent was going to be like "yeah right, braiding horse hair, that's a new one." I have one friend who does this full time. He actually has people who will fly him around the country to braid their horses for them. It can be really fantastic work and pay as you basically pick the jobs you want to do and set your own prices (along industry standards). The pay works out to roughly $80/hour, mostly in cash. The downside is you're usually working nights and your hands wear out after a while.

I think they would allow it. Just tell the agent at the sw (or other) desk your family member needs assistance.

on the CIP does a cell phone bill count as phone services?

To add to @DisneyMandC and @Jen and Ashwin ’s post, cell phone bills do earn 3x UR on the CIP and 5x UR on the CIC.

However, as long as you pay your full cell phone bill with the CIP, that card provides cell phone insurance of up to $600 per claim with a $100 deductible. For this reason, it makes sense for a lot of people to keep their cell phone bills on the CIP even if they have and could earn a higher rewards on the CIC.

Like PP said, less that $0.01 for MR isn't a good redemption. If you are looking to use them up and not specifically on travel, they have a promo right now on Home Depot cards, $100 for 8k points, also available in smaller denominations.

ETA: I see you can transfer to Hilton or SPG as well. Clearly I know nothing about MRs. Any thoughts on best plan?
