I love credit cards so much!

I had DH trapped in a long car ride last evening so I started telling him about the recent forum discussion of how most players have a P2 that is resistant to varying degrees. I thought he would relate but, guess what, he didn’t find it the least bit interesting, haha. So i showed mercy and ended the topic with “I think I will apply for a new business card this week”.... “that’s nice” was his reply.:rotfl2:

Yeah, my wife is no more interested in hearing about what goes on in the I love credit cards thread (sorry, all) than hearing about actual credit cards.

I just called and asked them to move my credit to my CIP and then canceled the card.

Chase let you move personal credit line to a business card? (Or was it the SW Biz > CIP?)

Remember the one sapphire rule so I’d go for the double dip so you don’t have to wait 24 mo before getting the bonus.

@jhoannam, we don’t want to come of as @mom2elal put it in the same scenario (the Sapphire double dip), cheerleaders and enablers, but @3 DD love princesses is right. Because of the one Sapphire rule, when you apply for a CSR or CSP, it makes sense to double dip the other at the same time. Otherwise, you are shut out of that card and its 50k UR bonus for at least 24 months. I believe the current offer on the CSP has the first year AF waived, so the only cost to the CSP is meeting another $4k in spend in the same 3 months period.

I'm just nosey and curious...are the schools that bad where you live? For some reason, I thought you were on the east coast and I always think of them having amazing public schools. But maybe the good schools I am thinking of in the east are private ones. Idk, I just cannot imagine spending that much prior to college!
I am indeed on the East Coast in MD and our public schools are good. We live in one of the smaller counties though so our schools don't have the same opportunities as some of the larger counties have for their students like the majority of other counties offer Algebra I in 7th grade, ours doesn't offer it until 8th grade. DS11 just needs to be challenged more than he currently is. He has already "skipped" a grade (he s/b in 5th but is in 6th) and is in all honors classes. Plus the majority of the kids know he is younger and skipped so that makes it rough on him at times. Plus not all of the teachers treat the kids with respect. Apparently, one of the staff felt it was acceptable to call some of the students dunces during lunch the other week because they were standing up too early for recess. That's totally unacceptable in my book. When I dropped him off for his shadow day this morning, the faculty was outside greeting the students and shaking their hands. One of the classes he'll get to attend today is a leadership class. Plus the classes will be smaller in size. His host for the day is taking 7th grade math.

They recently closed our neighboring public high school so our local public high school is now overcrowded and I hear there are more fights, crowded classrooms, less classes to select from, etc so it is preparation for that also. Plus we only have one child which makes it easier to afford. We'll just need to cutdown on all the dining out that we do and take less vacations. So I have 6 LONG hours until I pick him up and I'll be going crazy until then.

So just remembered DH was an au on my sw personal and business cards over the last two years. Both accounts are closed. How will this affect him in applying and getting the bonus

Being an AU on a card product does not preclude the AU from getting a bonus on the same card product when signing up as the primary cardholder.

If the 2 SW cards were less than 24 months old, then DH being an AU will have those two cards count against his */24. They will drop off naturally after 24 months so you may not have to remove them. If the two cards are pushing him to 5/24+, and you need DH to go for a Chase 5/24 card soon, then get Chase to remove those cards from his credit reports.

I don't see why it would be. They are a household member, after all.
I feel like everyone having an account with them that long would help show we aren't just changing our addresses to work the system or something... I was just thinking, perhaps I could get my MIL to try to double dip CSR/CSP and earn the points for "us"... she's always asking if we've taken the SPG points from their cards, she wants to make sure we get them because she thinks they'll never use them and they're just happy we helped them out on the wedding trip. But we're trying to plan that surprise family cruise for next summer, and cover their cruise/travel costs, and I was thinking... what if she did that and transferred the points, then we put all 108k UR towards their cruise to make it cost less for us and BILs.... Really the only reason for transferring to DHs account would be to make sure she didn't get an email or something that spoiled the surprise.

is anyone here buying gift of prime for another year and applying it to your Amazon acct later? I'm debating doing this, but my 'year' doesn't end till end of Oct......

We're still on the fence too. I think tonight is decision night for us. I'm pushing for trying the gift because at worst we'll just have a $99 gift card if we change our mind (or it doesn't work) and it was only tied up for 6 months. I think hubby wasn't sure if he wanted to tie up the money and he tends to forget he has gift cards  But this one's easy at least, I can put a reminder on my phone for a couple days before so he can't forget to cancel and then use the gift instead :)

I think I read you can use gift cards to buy the gift of prime, which I have a discounted Amazon gift card I can use on it too which might sway the vote.

It was the business which I just found out was not a good move. Applied for the CIC yesterday and called today to find out the status. Apparently I have too much credit I’m not using. Which don’t fully understand since the credit line is 11.5k and I’ve put 7-8k a month on it.
I asked if I could move some credit to the new Card to get it approved and it was hard no. Another thing she said was I just opened a business card in September. Does have me concerned about getting him approved for the sw business late this year.
There has been 8 months between my applications. DH would have 9 months between them before “he” applies.

How do I get chase to remove them off his credit report? Rather have them gone so it doesn’t affect his. Luckily he hasn’t really looked at his accounts since I’ve been doing it. But to be safe I should remove them to not be included in his opening accounts.

I got the 7000 SPG points with a $500 spend. It was a short call. I think a couple people have gotten that.

Thanks! May I ask did you suggest that you might cancel or did you just ask for a retention offer?

Sorry if I missed this discussion, but I'm only finding the bonus for Amex SPG biz for a statement credit!? Just found out DH wants to do the star wars race next April and I had a grand plan of trying for the swolphin for as many free nights as I could get with both of us opening Amex SPG biz. That just killed my plan. :worried: Anyone have any inside info? I'm at 4/24 (waiting for another AU to come off credit report) and want to get the SW biz next month so I'm avoiding chase for now...

The 35k Starpoints offer on the SPG Biz ended on 3/28/18, then went down to 25k. The SPG personal had a 25k Starpoints public offer (and 30k if you could pull it up via incognito). Unfortunately, the offers on both the Amex SPG biz and personal cards changed over to statement credits only on 4/19/18. We had some advance warning via the blogs so a lot of us in this thread jumped on the Starpoints train before it possible left the station for good.

Rumor is Amex will continue issuing the SPG biz and personal, in addition to a new luxury card, into next year when the Marriott/SPG/Ritz-Carlton brands completely merge, and that Amex will have rich signup bonuses coming:
Yes, the Starwood Amex Really Will Stop Taking Applications Next Year, Bet On It
American Express WON’T Continue To Issue Personal SPG Cards Long Term [Rich Sign Up Bonus To Come
Amex SPG Personal Card Won’t Be Discontinued & Rich Signup Bonus Coming Soon

So DH got in a car accident yesterday (not his fault), which means we will have a $1k deductible payment coming up quick. I was planning to wait until 5/15 to apply for my CIC. This is because I got the CIP on March 15. Well, I bit the bullet and applied this morning. Applied at 8:30am. Called the status line at 9:30am and it said approved. It is showing up in my account with a $12k limit. I called and got it expedited, so it should be here by the end of the week.

And just for reference, I am at 4/24.

So the Gift Card thread has me now a bit concerned SB since I would have to just now open an account and then proceed to use 8+ transactions... So prob will go back to the Walmart/SAMs sure bet. Now I need to put spend on the CIC, Anyone know if OfficeMax/Depot sells Walmart cards? LOL! TBH I have not walked into the place in years!

I think you can, but you can't get 5x on the gift cards because the only place to buy Costco cards is directly from Costco. It is better to pay at the pump with the CIC and get 2x.

Yes, but not at office supply stores for 5x UR.

Sorry guys! Brain not functional this morning! I'm a Costco member and I know this. I guess I was thinking you'd get 5% anywhere....

I stick with my Citi Costco for gas at Costco and everywhere - 4%....

Why would you pay the deductible if it wasn't his fault? In that case I just notify my insurance company and have the at fault party pay the damages. Unless the at fault party had no insurance??

Sorry to hear about his accident. My DS got rear ended last week too. Will you have to pay a deductible even it it wasn't his fault?

Thanks for the info! I'm sure i'm skimmed the conversation but SPG points were not on my radar at all... Until this week. I need to start planning better for future unplanned trips.

Nope! But Staples is not charging a fee on their Visa gc's this week - https://www.doctorofcredit.com/staples-no-purchase-fees-on-200-visa-gift-cards-4-22-18-4-28-18/

Could you buy those and then make your Dis gc purchase at Sam's with those?
