I love credit cards so much!

Don't forget to keep calling Hyatt. On our dates to Kauai i was told twice there was nothing no award nights no points nada.
Only the 3rd or 4th call availability magically appeared. I just kept hanging up getting different reps.

Also when our cruise let off in Vancouver we took this tour because it was wayyy too early to check in the hotel.
I highly recommend it because they picked up right there at Canada Place AND took our luggage and later dropped us off
to our hotel. I was grateful for that. Turns out one of the best tours i booked and my kids still talk about.

They actually call it a Post cruise excursion https://vancouvertours.com/pre-post-cruise-tours/

Hope this helps :)

That looks like a good tour because unless you had a car, getting from the cruise port to Stanley Park and Granville Island would be a pain. I can't remember where China Town is amongst it all. The Gas Light District is nice too but it's near the cruise port so it's really full of tourist tchotchke stores. I would skip the aquarium at Stanley Park, it's small and over priced for what you see. It used to be better when they still had the zoo there, and the park itself is nice. There's lots of shopping on Robson Street. If you weren't from Chicago I would suggest Boston Pizza, it's a Canadian chain and deep dish, I like it, but you probably get better pizza at home. They do a have a light rail now that was built for the Olympics and it's easy to use but it doesn't go everywhere.

Go on like you want to book the whole thing as cash and if it lets you book standard then there are nights available for them to book with points and that's what you should ask/tell them because you can book it as cash and you quote their website under using points on the right side - https://world.hyatt.com/content/gp/en/member-benefits.html

It goes back to that blog I posted earlier, if they have standard available for cash then they are available for points it just needs to have someone to actually get that and do it. Did you call the number on the back of your Hyatt card? That rez number should be used to stuff like this cause they deal with points all the time.
I called the number on my World Of Hyatt card. But they say they have no standard rooms for Saturday. If you search Saturday, only high floors or city views come up, no standard. But I can find award booking for Friday to Monday including the same Saturday. Crazy.

:P
So true. As a Chicagoan I learned never to eat pizza on vacation. It is not the same. Thin or thick, I’ll eat pizza at home. I am however looking forward to trying hot dogs at Japadog

And this is the cheaper option. The majority of private schools are over $30k a year. DS is doing summer camp at one and it is a gorgeous campus with an aquatic facility that easily rivals any university facility. When we pulled up last year for Chess camp, he thought we were on a college campus.

I'm just nosey and curious...are the schools that bad where you live? For some reason, I thought you were on the east coast and I always think of them having amazing public schools. But maybe the good schools I am thinking of in the east are private ones. Idk, I just cannot imagine spending that much prior to college!

I'm confused, do you just need Saturday? Your post earlier had the 25-27 which is why I had looked at those dates. It's possible the hotel has a 2 night min for some odd reason, though that seems weird as well.

I need Saturday and Sunday night. Hyatt is telling me they have award night for Sunday, but not Saturday thus I can’t book 25-27th. However, if you include Friday in the search (fri-sat-sun) award stay is available. So can’t book Saturday, or Saturday and Sunday, but can book Friday-Saturday-Sunday or just Sunday. Weird.

So, not going away, which is great! But the increased bonus offer is still set to expire on May 20? Anymore DP's on that?
The rumor of it going away 5/20 seems to have come from one source which had posted something on imgur and shared on r/churning and referenced the in-branch offer going away. I personally have not seen any further rumor on this, and have asked multiple times on various sites to see if anybody else knew something. The way that Chase site looks, it doesn't look like a temp offer that's going away anytime soon. However, nothing would surprise me...

CF and CFU have the same bonus amount. Maybe CIC and CIU will now have the same bonus amount. I don't know what to think at this point, haha!

Hmm... ZERO experience with Hyatt for this purpose but can you
1) call and make a res for what you want
2) make the rez you want then call and delete a night
IDK if any of that is even possible but it’s what I’d look into.

Still seems prudent to go ahead and apply by May 20. I wish we had a bit more time on the offer but it is what it is. I do love that there is another Chase card with an UR bonus entering the arena :cutie:

Can you just book all 3 nights. Then call back later and cancel Fri night?

I am very torn on whether this card deserves an audible in our strategy at this point or not. The CIC is part of the plan but not this early... I REALLY want to go for this bonus...but it could displace too many pieces in my strategy.

I'm still at 19/24 right now. The plan for us is to have my wife get the next 4-5 cards since she will soon be 0/24:
Apr 2018: CIP (done - halfway through MSR)
Jun 2018: Max out the UR earning on our 4 CF cards for the quarter using Paypal (waiting until then in case an emergency comes up and I end up needing to do this organically).
Jul 2018: CSR/CSP double dip. This is placed here strategically as $2,400 in property taxes will help with the $8k. PLUS I want to book our Disney trip in Sept/Oct and need the CSR to activate that 1.5x multiplier on all of our URs.
Oct/Nov 2018: CIC (or new CIU)
Jan 2019: new SW card
Feb 2019: I'm now under 5/24 and we have me hit CIP

So if you want a little insight into my complicated churning brain (where I overthink everything): IF I try for a CIP in May...I now have gotten 2 new chase cards in 2 months...and a double dip is out of the question for awhile. PLUS...2 biz card apps in 45 days...do I really want to run that fast after we waited 20+ months to get here. Then I'm not sure I'd want to double dip until Oct to keep in Chase's good graces (I don't want to be a 4 cards in 6 month person...). The remaining spend on my CIP and the MSR on the CIC isn't enough to cover the organic spending I'll have between now and Oct so I'll end up "wasting" spend on non sign-up bonus activity (which basically goes against everything I stand for in this game, lol). I also want to have that CSR when Disney releases discounts so I can get things booked, I should have it in time...but there is risk there too. With the amount of URs I'm planning to use on this trip, not having a CSR when booking could cost me $500-$750. There's probably more factors than this but...I need to sleep now.

I will probably spend hours of my life considering this now...haha!

EDIT: I'm also realizing that a big chunk of our organic spending each year was buying GCs for our January Disney trip in Oct-Dec. Well...this year's trip won't cost anything so I won't have that spend, haha! That's a good problem to have I guess ;)

Honestly, in your case, you really do need to think about the cost here. Chasing an offer that is *only* 20k higher than the normal public offer may not be worth it in your situation. I know having the CSR and being able to book Disney with that 1.5 multiplier was HUGE. Just huge. We saved an additional $400 over what the CSP would have given us. I will not get rid of the CSR just because of that. And that was only half our trip (4 nights!). So yeah, if we don't think the CIC is going away, and it's looking less likely that it is, maybe waiting is better for you.

I cannot believe you are 19/24 (lol/24 for real!!) and will be under in less than a year. That is crazy!

That is a legit x/24 calc too and excludes 5 Biz cards (so actually 24/24 in total cards). At my peak I was 34/24 (including biz cards). It’s coming down rapidly as 2-3 cards fall off every month from back in 2016.

EDIT: I will actually have 5 cards fall off in Nov. I was approved for 5 personal cards in a month LOLOL! Those were the days hahaha!

Not sure how you kept up with that many cards and the MSR's. Having two cards at a time stresses me out a bit.

If all else fails, I’ll consider that. I have over 50k Hyatt points saved just for this. Hyatt Regency Vancouver is 12.5k per night, 17k Club level. Not accepting award bookings on my dates :( Marriotts are all cat 7 or 8, SPG 12k points per night which would burn thru all my Marriott/SPG points. We’re staying 2 nights pre- cruise, 1 night post cruise. . Plan A and B are failing.

ETA: @pillow what did you do from the time you got off the boat until check in at the hotel? I’d like to do more sightseeing but can’t imagine dragging the luggage. Otherwise a trip to the airport/hotel then back to Vancouver?

We stayed at a Westin (SPG property) near Stanley Park pre cruise and post cruise for our Alaska DCL cruise in 2014. Some of the things we did: We got a horse and carriage tour of Stanley Park, we went to the Capilano suspension bridge, Grouse Mountain gondoloa. We experienced Fly Over Canada which is like Soarin' at Epcot only much longer and executed better. We did a walking tour with Forbidden Vancouver which was a lot of fun! I love these types of walking tours. We chose Lost Souls of Gastown.

Our friends that are going with us to China this month were also with us for the Alaska cruise. I don't like hot dogs and neither does my friend. However, somehow eating hot dogs while traveling out of the country has become a "thing" for us. Japadog was awesome! The four of us went to Japadog and literally ordered "one of each" and Japa then became a prefix for nearly everything after that experience. We were Japaexcited, everything was Japalicious and afterwards we were Japastuffed! Four years later and our group still talks to each other that way. It was a great bonding experience. Here is a before and after:
