I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

This morning I went out to buy some fee free gift cards.

My local Staples had a total of 7, 3 of which were torn open.

I took the 4 intact ones to the cashier and asked if they had any more in the little closet. Cashier goes to ask the manager who came out and said they were out. She also volunteered that there is a change in Maryland with regard to the Visa cards and they should be getting more in soon. She didn't know what was changing.

Meanwhile I had noticed that all Visas seemed to be missing from the carousel. There were plenty of Master Cards.

I asked, 'Is it just Maryland or is this change coming to Virginia also?' She didn't know anything about Virginia, 10 minutes away.

She also had the cashier toss the opened cards in the trash.

Later this week, I'll be near another Staples so I'll check there as I want a few more.
We drove up to the Finger Lakes today. Took my CIC along just in case. Stopped for lunch at a Panera near Harrisburg, there was a Staples in the same strip mall. Had plenty of them, but the store has a policy of only selling $1000 of gift cards at a time, so I got 5. Later we were looking for gas, and DH noticed there was a Sheetz and Staples near each other in Williamsport PA so I got another 1000.

I am traveling tomorrow on an American Airlines flight that was booked through Qatar airways. It would not let me pay for the luggage through the check in process but I have an american airlines credit card. Do I have to call to get the luggage fees waived or is that done at the airline check in desk?

Regarding the back-to-back booking of Amex Fine Resorts Hotels... I've done the linking thing too with two different cardholders, but recently, I was looking at doing it agin with DD26 (same last name) and I noticed language saying that you couldn't do this and wouldn't get the perks if caught. I thought they were trying to crack down on the practice, but maybe the language has always been there and I'm just noticing? Here's the language: "Back-to-back stays booked by a single Card Member, Card Members staying in the same room or Card Members traveling in the same party within a 24-hour period at the same property are considered one stay and are ineligible for additional FHR benefits (“Prohibited Action”)." I suspect it would be hard to implement with two separate bookings made with different cards--even with same last name--but I would be hesitant to link the reservations.

You may need to speak with someone. If your AA mileage number isn't attached to the booking it may not pick up the bags free. Depending on who you get it'll work OK.

You don't have to pay for your flight with the card for AA bags to be free as long as you hold the card. But they need to know you have the card.

I think the language was added a few years ago. For something like $100 property credit, we've only gotten $100 not $200 with one night in my name and one night in DH's. I always tell them that we have separate reservations and want to stay in the same room, so I expect not to get it twice. The implementation probably differs with hotels though.

If you check into one room, checkout, then check in under a different person, that should work since they wouldn't know. @mmmears method of FHR / VX (or booked any other way) / FHR probably works too since it's over 24 hours.
