I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

I want to use Chase UR to "pool" points with a non-household member (my mom) via transfer partner. Some transfer partners I thought of were:

Hyatt- can pool/transfer
Flying Blue- theoretically, but I already have a family pool with the max adults (2)
AirCanada- seems they have a family pooling program
Marriott- poor value
Emirates- has a family pooling with includes immediate family members, which would work for me

It seems the AU transfer route is only for household members and I'm risk adverse to this boundary.

Any other thoughts? I'd prefer not to have to deal with booking anything from one of her accts bc if an issue comes up and she has to be involved, it will be super messy with her. Hyatt and Emirates seem to be the best options.

For Hyatt, there's a points combine form. You can only give or receive points every 30 days. It can take some time to process. The concierge told me transfers over 200k need approval.

Depending on what you're trying to do, it might not make sense to combine points. If the room will be in your mom's name, but the points are in your account, you'd have to contact Hyatt to gift the reservation to her. It will then be in her account (but if it was canceled, points would go back to your account). Not too sure if you'd be able to contact Hyatt about the reservation once it's in her name.

My plan would be something like this:

Transfer Mom's URs to Hyatt
Pool/transfer her points to myself (points combine form)
Use Hyatt points for myself.

The scenario you describe is exactly what I plan to avoid. I want to transfer points to the actual user of the points to avoid any usage issues.

That's a good plan and I've done that myself with my dad's points that he was going to let go to waste as he wanted to close his card. It was 56K points.

Was just reading a reddit dp that it took about 24 hrs for a Rakuten trip to go to pending after applying for CSP. Applicant did not sign into Chase account and applied as guest.

Others saw the cashback offer disappear when they signed into Chase, so they aren't sure if it will track properly that way.

My mom applied as guest tonight and was approved. Will update if Rakuten moves to pending.

Does anyone know if the 50% off companion with Hawaiian Airlines requires you to pay with the Hawaiian Card? The terms state
  • These discounts are good on roundtrip coach travel between Hawaii and North America, booked directly with Hawaiian Airlines through the Primary Cardmember’s HawaiianMiles Program Account.
  • Offer must be redeemed through the Primary Cardmember’s Program Account.
The wording has me wondering if "program account" could just mean my Hawaiian Air Miles account. Id really like to use my Amex Platinum to book.
I don’t have any experience with this, but my interpretation of the wording means it must be booked through the cardmember’s Hawaiian Airlines account. Not with the Hawaiian card. My companion certificate came with a code. You could go in and do a dummy booking to see if the 50% comes off during the booking process. I’m going to assume it does, and then you can pay with whatever card you like.

Again I could be completely wrong, but having to use the Hawaiian card seems overly restrictive.

Could I get some hotel recommendations for Paris? My friend and I are spending a few days and mainly want to see the sites (Louvre, Eiffel Tower), maybe take a seine river cruise and some kind of cooking class.

I am platinum with marriott and am hoping to finally be able to use my SNAs.

We stayed in the Latin Quarter last year....it is a great spot to stay. Paris is an unbelievably amazing city.

I signed in to apply. Not approved yet so I can’t tell what Rakuten will do.

Thanks, it seemed this way to me too. I will update if it works once it comes time to book.

We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Massy. Great redemption if you have Amex rewards. Across the street from the train station. Had a great stay

My go to is the Paris Hyatt Etoile. It’s low on points and they are good to Globalists. Haven’t stayed at any of the Marriott properties there. I would suggest checking Flyertalk and seeing what Marriott recommendations and reviews are discussed for Paris.

I got a 7-10 day message last week for a United card. Approved next day!
I got my approval overnight. I also got all the emails from various places, that I had a credit pull. It was weird that I didn't get any inquiry notices right away like I usually go. Now, am I going to have battle Rakuten is the next question.

I have held the Chipotle in case I can get it to work, but the Village Inn still shows invalid on their website. Multiple emails and calls to Pepper, with zero answer. I disputed the $46 with Chase and they instantly refunded the $46!
A follow up, I had no problem using the Chipotle card from Pepper at my local Chipotle, this weekend. Not sure why the North Dakota location couldnt get it to work. So I am all square and done with Pepper.

I have never stayed at a Marriott property in Paris, but I believe that Renaissance Paris Vendome gets good reviews on FT. From what I've read the Hotel de Berri is good with SNAs. When I'm in Paris it's all about location. My new fav location is the 1st, I also love the 9th, but only hotels in close proximity to the Opera. There are so many really, really nice boutique hotels in Paris that are much more affordable than any of the big brands (Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott, IHG, etc.).

Wasn't sure if it would work, but I was able to PC DH's Amex Blue Cash Preferred back to a BC Everyday by chat. He was given a free upgrade for a year, but we don't spend enough at grocery stores to make it worth continuing with the AF.

So I tried to take my 20yo DD to SAN on Sunday for a quick trip to the zoo. She's been wanting to go to the zoo since I went back in October. She has mental illness issues. I told her about the weather 5 times before we left. It was going to be 50's and rainy on Sunday, 65 and sunny on Monday. The plan was fly in Sunday, land around 10am. Fly home on the redeye Monday night. She knew all of this.

In the airport she started to have a panic attack about the flight. With all the recent stuff in the news :(. Ironically my GBF was actually trying to trade (before he even knew we were going to take the flight) for this trip. He didn't get it. But I told her, just imagine Jake is the CA. I ended up giving her 2 Xanax. I asked her a few times if she wanted to bail on the trip. She said yes, but her reasons were fear of the plane crashing, that her brother wasn't with us, so if it did crash he'd be left w/o us, and missing her BF. She did not voice concerns for the weather.

I got her on the plane. The FA seated in front of us (we got the awesome extra foot room seats on the 321) in the jumpseat was AMAZING! She held my daughter's hand and calmed her. She was fine once we took off. Flying into SD, my DD was not impressed, LOL. Driving to our hotel (Embassy Suites near Seaport Village), she was not happy with the weather, the scenery, etc. We couldn't check into the hotel, so we walked across the street and around seaport village. She was not happy, with what the ocean "was". Prior to this, she's seen Mexico, FL and NC beaches. So SD doesn't compete, LOL. She was unhappy with the weather, etc. When we finally got into our room, she really started to spiral. She didn't want to go to the zoo saying it would be too cold. Mind you, she has gone to the zoo here when it's snowed!

Of course I got frustrated, because she complains about all the travel I do, how I never take her anywhere. But then when I do, all she does is complain. She started to have an episode. When that happens you can't talk to her, you also can't ignore her. I have to sit and listen to her scream at how bad of a mom I am, etc. I can only take so much before I snap and start to cry, etc. Then she'll dial back and apologize and hug, and then she'll spiral again.

I agreed to just cut our losses and take the red eye back Sunday.....But I kept telling her she had to get under control or we couldn't fly home. In the end, she finally did and so we spent 12 hours in SD, I spent $40 on Ubers and $50 on a hotel room (burning one of my BFF's employee nights....ugh) and putting my body through hell w/ 2 flights.

I'm not sure when or if I'll try to take her again. There is a very fine line of "perfect" weather with her. I tried to explain that most people have to plan trips months to years in advance and that you have to deal with less than perfect weather. I also told her, she can't get mad when I travel because I offered Ireland she didn't want to go (thank god now) and I've took her to SD and she just wanted to go home. I truly hate her illness. And I wanted to give her happy memories and a trip to the zoo.

That all said, I head to Vegas on Saturday w/ my BF. She's sworn up and down she won't hold this against me and that she's happy I get to do things like this. But is when she's clear headed and the illness isn't speaking for her. I had to try and push this trip in, because I start my new job in June and she is starting her new job this week :(.
