I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

Will someone please remind me... if I currently have a CSP (got the bonus back in 2020), do I need to close it or anything before applying for another one?

I have a lot of spend coming up so I am considering going into a branch... don't think I can wait till the 3rd to apply online.

You can only hold 1 Sapphire (of any type) at a time, so yes you would have to close it.

If you close it, you need to wait 30 days. 4 days if you PC to a Freedom. However, to apply in branch you might have to wait 30+ days if you PC. Maybe it can be sooner if you can get them to make you a new profile. Link

I would just PC and wait for the online offer.

I've waited 2 weeks and been approved. It's hard to know what the minimum is though.
thanks -that's what I thought.... so when I pressed him for more info he told me he could actually wait till April 15th :rolleyes1 so he cancelled one, is going to wait 2 weeks and hope for ia and expedited and he can get it all done

Another CSP question... DH is 48+ SUB on his CSP, which he PC'd to a freedom unlimited 2 weeks ago. We had planned to get the CSR, but with the elevated SUB on the CSP, now we're having second thoughts. We can always upgrade to CSR later I guess.

He should be good to apply to either now, right? Or does he need to wait a full 30 days?

I'm still over here frozen with indecision on what card to apply for, mainly because I didn't do my research ahead of time and now would like to get a card before April 8, when I expect to have a lot of spend.

Question about the Amex (personal) Plat airport lounge benefit: Do I have to have purchased the airfare with the Amex Plat? I thought I read that somewhere and now I can't find it. I do have some flights in the next few months that I'd love to be able to use it with, but I bought them with other cards (or with points).

Plat does not get you into airline lounges (with few exceptions), it gets you into Priority Pass lounges. You do not have to use the card to book your airfare.

However, the Plat absolutely sucks for most people and you should only get it if you're getting an elevated signup bonus of 150,000 points or more. Venture X is as much simpler path to Priority Pass lounge access for 99.9% of people.

No you don't have to have used the card for the ticket. For the DL lounge you do need to be flying Delta main cabkn or above, not basic. For centurion and priority pass it doesn't matter what airline you are flying. It's only good for one person at dl and centurion, not sure about PP I use the one from my CSR.

I'd see what lounges are at the airports you're traveling to/from to see if it's worth it.

I’m not sure if in branch he’d have to wait 30 days like cancelling the card, I guess he could try and hopefully it works.

As far as upgrading to a CSR, you need wait until the CSP is a year old due to the CARD Act to do that

Unusual situation that I'd like to get your guys take on. Some of you know that my husband passed away unexpectedly 11 months ago. All of his credit cards have been cancelled by now. Chase does it automatically--they appear to monitor the SS list--but Amex I cancelled as they were due. One of his cards was the Aspire, which I cancelled a while back. But strangely, a couple weeks ago I received a Hilton FN certificate for his account. I'm debating whether to try to use it. What do you guys think? Super risky?

I think overseas, where they require passports, likely risky. In the States, if you list yourself as a second guest and "check in earlier"...mmm maybe not? I'm not a big Hilton person so perhaps others can chime in, though. Once again, condolences...grief can hit at the oddest times and I'm sure receiving the FNC was an unexpected reminder.😥

Looking for another card... Closed one of my US Bank Triple Cash Biz Cards on 3/17 (Also still have USB Biz Alt Connect and another Triple Cash). Is it too soon after closing this one to apply again? I can also close the Alt Connect Card Mid -April after the one year mark.

Do you think I should wait or maybe I should try for another INK. Currently have 1 Ink open from June and only other Biz card is Marriott from 2018.

DH was just denied for another INK with only 2 biz cards. Said too much open credit. We do use my cards more - so... not sure what to do.

First of, my condolences.
(I would think a FNC may be considered part of points but Hilton may think differently.)
Second, are there points also in his account? This is #23 under Hilton Honors terms and conditions:

Oh... I am not sure what this means, then (from the benefits page)

I do see the 150K offer for the personal Plat.

I am not flying Delta any time soon.. I have (I think) 3 upcoming flights on Southwest, and one on United. I will check the terminals!

Can I just rant how I really hate these new United Card changes. I always feel like i missed out on a cards
glory days. I have barely had the card a year now the raise fee and give these "coupon" credits. What is
worse the 2 complimentary club passes now you have to be there. I use to give those to friends or relatives
when we were not going to use them.

Reminds me when Amex platinum use to be the rage. Soon after i get it they nerf the benefits and up the
fee lol.

Yeah, I'm on the fence if I'll keep my United Explorer card. I do like the free checked bags, however I'm not loyal to United. And with Priority Pass from my Amex Plat, the lounge passes aren't a dealbreaker either.

Yes, I was thinking of using it for a local property and doing exactly that--putting my name on the reservation as well. Thank you for the condolences--still hard to wrap my head around.

Hmm. Interesting. I suspect it wouldn't be treated as points in this case because it was given in error? In other words, if I try to call attention to it, I suspect it will be quickly rescinded. He did have points in his account but I was able to transfer them soon after his death as I have access to his accounts.

I did leave out a conversation I had with the diamond desk a couple months ago when I was booking my own FNC. I mentioned the death of my husband and that I wanted to book his FNC (this one was earned correctly) and she said i could do it as long as I had access to his account and phone. I didn't end up doing it as it was about to run out, but now I have a use for this one, so I'm considering chancing it.

But maybe too risky and bad karma ... still debating.
