Looking for some insight/tips/advice. Family of 4 going to Canada in fall or late summer. These are
my options for tickets 10k points plus $25 each transferring UR to Aeroplan . Or 13.8K each plus
5.60 each to transfer UR to United and book that way. The flights are both on Air Canada.

So cost is 40k Aeroplan+ $100 or 55.2K United and $22.40.

As someone who rarely flies either (and never have transferred) which would you do?
Thank you for any help!
United flights are easy to cancel.

Applied for GE about 3 weeks ago and still pending. Is this typical for a new applicant? It is difficult to tell from what I read as some seem to get conditional approval in less than 2 weeks. The wait is a bit stressful for me.
It's hit or miss with no rhyme or reason. Some take a few days and others can be weeks.

I have an IHG stay booked for next weekend. When I made the reservation I used (probably) one of my Chase cards.

There is now an IHG offer on one of my Amex cards, which I planned to use when I was actually on site to pay for the stay. Does anyone know whether the IHG offer will still credit even though I didn't make the initial reservation with that Amex card?

I’m guessing not many people have any experience with this since Avelo is a smaller airline.

I opened the Capital One Venture card that should have a $200 credit for Avelo flights. I bought my flights Feb. 10 but don’t have the credit yet. My statement just closed and still no credit. Of course, Capital One only seems to have a phone line so I can’t do secure message, chat or email. I have to make a phone call. Like it’s it the early 2000’s🙄

Any one else go for the Avelo/Capital One perks?

It shouldn't matter as it's based of paying with the card if it's just a regular $ back for spending x.

In general CapOne credits take either 3 days or 3 statements for me. It’s really annoying!

Email from Chase this morning that my restaurant purchase from 2/12 counted for the $5 back offer. The last offer that I haven't used is still disappeared.

My husband, 2 adult children, and I all applied over the last 4-5 months (when we could get the credit from new credit cards) and we all got conditionally approved within 2 days, I literally got approved the next morning.

My Dad applied for GE on 1/13/2023 and his application is still pending. You reminded us to just check again. We had to pay the $100 for him as we used up all the credits we had available. My Mom will not even apply (would have to also pay OOP) until he gets his conditional approval. My parents ALWAYS travel together, so no point of potentially having only one them with GE.

Mom will only apply for GE early if she has a GE credit to use up...

Good Luck to you!! Hopefully, there is just a back up and we all get conditionally approved soon!

I can't find my email showing conditional approval, but DH and I applied back in July (! -- just checked when we got billed/credited) and I got conditional approval within a week (maybe less). He has STILL not gotten his. I didn't even realize until I went to book an early Dec interview (finally found one) and then realized he hadn't gotten his. It's not almost March. No clue why, he's led an unremarkable life (sorry honey).

EDIT: It just occurred to me that his employment has changed (we retired, for now anyway, in November). I wonder if he's supposed to update his application. If they do employment verification, that will not verify what he listed as his employer. And it JUST dawned on me that perhaps that's what is tripping him up. He worked for a very small family (not his) owned business. I could definitely see them ignoring any kind of verification. Hmmm.

I would like to open another Ink card, but my last Ink card has a high balance ($6K) I could pay it off but I would like to take advantage of the 0% APR. Anyone have a history of being approved for a Chase business card with a high balance on a card?

I was approved for a second after having a balance of $5K on the first.

I also got the email on the one I used, the $5 isn't showing up as a credit yet. The offer is back on the other 3 cards.

I was just denied this week for the IHG Biz card due to:

  • One or more credit cards have a high balance compared to the credit line
  • Insufficient business deposit relationship with us
I have a 0% balance of about $2400 on a $5000 limit card, but my overall CC use is under 10% so I thought that was odd. First denial for me, but also my first Biz app with Chase. Have the Hilton Biz with Amex.

Out of curiosity, what business and business structure did you use ? Also is your total credit limits with Chase low? I’m curious because DH and I both approved for Chase Ink cards while carrying a balance on another chase card.

Hoping this group can give me some guidance on card maximization! I have current cards listed and all travel plans listed below - would love to hear what the experts would do. The travel plans are aspirational, but I figure if I start early we might be able to pull it off!

Current cards:
  • 04/21 - Chase Sapphire, Bonus Post Date 6/5/21, annual fee due 4/29/23, 48k points, Use for restaurants only. Keep open due to travel benefits?
  • 05/22 - Chase Freedom Unlimited, Bonus Post Date 5/31/22, no annual fee, 47k points, Use for all other costs. Will keep open - no fee
  • 05/22 - Southwest, Bonus Post Date 8/26/22, annual fee due 5/31/23, 37k miles, Use for daycare costs $1k/month, this is ending May 2023. End before annual fee due?
  • 09/22 - BonVoy, Bonus Post Date 12/13/22, annual fee due 9/23/22, 41k miles, Keep open for free night each year?
  • Forever - Disney, no annual fee, Use for Disney only
  • Forever - Amazon, no annual fee, Use for Amazon only
Average spend on cards is $2k per month, with big spend each May of $5k for kids camps and Nov/Dec of $3k (have used these to get to past minimum spends) No Player 2 - husband has Costco card and refuses to budge.

Fly from Harrisburg (MDT), or drive to BWI for SW

Travel:

May 2023 CA: SW points already covered flights, BonVoy points covered partial lodging. Outstanding costs are AirBnB reserved by family member and rental car. Considering using UR points for car rental.

Summer 2023 Pittsburgh: Using remaining BonVoy points for hotel, no other significant costs.

August 2023 Denver: Need flights for two adults, flying from Harrisburg. Not considering using rewards but will sign up for loyalty program of whatever airline we fly.

May 2024 Disney World: Plan to transfer UR points to SW to pay for all flights for 2 adults/2 kids. Will do split stay, 2 nights via Disney and 4 nights via point rental. Will purchase tickets through third party vendor.

Feb/Mar 2025 Disney Cruise: If keeping BonVoy card will use yearly free night to stay at hotel night before cruise leaves. Would like to use points to pay for flights for 2 adults, 2 kids.

Summer 2026 CA and Disneyland: Would like to use hotel/airline rewards to pay for part of the trip, 1 adult, 2 kids.

2027 Hawaii: Would like to use airline rewards to pay for flights, 2 adults, 2 kids. Renting points to stay at Aulani, then want to stay in a vacation rental on another island.

2028 Australia: Would like to use airline rewards to pay for flights for 2 adults, 2 kids. Would go to Sydney, Uluru, and Great Barrier Reef. Unsure if doing vacation rentals or hotels

I don't think you'll have any issue with this. I used a similar offer for Waldorf Astoria in December and it tracked even though I had booked a stay using FNCs. It shouldn't matter how or when you made this reservation.
