I booked the train for Sunday to Southampton but it was canceled (several trains down the line as well) due to some issue on the tracks. We ended up with 2 Ubers XL to transport the 7 of us with our ridiculous amount of luggage. I've requested a refund from LNER - don't know why its not automatic- and they say they are reviewing and will get back to me within 10 days. The Ubers cost $700, I wonder if this is something that Chase might cover.

Was this a South Western Railway train? I see on their website that you can claim for journeys completed by taxi. Link But if you booked through LNER, it might need to go through them.

I got a refund for our delayed train, but the refund to cc failed, so then I got a check. In GBP. As far as I could tell, it would cost me more to cash the check than it's worth (27 pounds). Hope your claim goes smoother!

I think the CSR won't cover since it has this. Some paid policies might cover it.
"We will not reimburse additional transportation expenses incurred by You other than those described above. This includes the difference in cost between the original fare or any new fare to return home or rejoin the Trip."

I was planning to order Hilton GCs for Q-3 for my new Surpass but then I just remembered Amex does not approve of getting GCs when you are in the MSR period. Does that mean I should not get them at all or does that mean I just cant count them toward my MSR?

Don't really know the answer for you, but what's the possibility of completing MSR before the end of September and then ordering your Q3 gift card?

The other option to use the $50 credit is to stay at a Hilton before Sept 30.

I have the Surpass also but got it last year before the new credit came out, so I was past the MSR period as many who clicked on DOC's link probably were. I can tell you that I would have probably ordered the gift card anyway.

It's 50 bucks, just don't count it towards the sub.

I think it's okay to buy them, but personally I wouldn't count it towards the MSR. I'm paranoid when it comes to Amex, so I don't count anything that gets credited (airline credit, hotel credit, etc) even though Amex will count it automatically for the SUB.

In the terms is this:
"Eligible purchases are purchases for goods and services minus returns and other credits."

It may be unnecessary, but that is my risk tolerance. On occasion, it's come in handy as a buffer when I've gotten unexpected refunds past the MSR period.

Just to verify before I pull the trigger - the best deal on the INK cards now is for P1 to send a link to P2 for the 100,000 points on the Biz Preferred with the $95 annual fee. P1 get the 40,000 points and P2 can then request to be matched to the 120,000 point offer.

I just need to decide whether to apply for P1 or P2 (or both) and want to make sure I don't mess it up!

This just happened to me. Got a refund of $187 for a tour we had scheduled at Disneyland that got cancelled. MSR period on that Biz Plat ended mid July. I had gone over $150ish but will still be under by $37 or so 🙄
Going to use the card to buy dinner and hope that Amex is okay with it all.

Yes, that's the best deal right now.

DH just got instant approval. :)

Yup, that's the way to do it right now. We're just about done that SUB and embarrassingly fast. Between paying off part of a cruise and prepaying the girls' dance tuition, we were 2/3 of the way there on day 3!! :rotfl2:

Now I have to decide if we hold off for a while, as I don't have any big planned expenses, or refer back the other way to start working on a new SUB.

I just read this morning that the Ink referral bonus is dropping from 40k back down to 20k. Can’t remember the exact date but act fast just in case!

In case anyone is doing a pickup at 7-Eleven for their doordash credits - I had a promotion code for $5 off $15 with an order from 7-Eleven. It was SWEET5 and just showed up when I logged in. It did bump the tax up a bit, but I'm stocking up on snacks for a trip we're taking, so worth it to me to get an extra bag of goodies!

Editing my post to say that I think I messed it up - it looks like it used my $10 credit built up from the last two months instead of using one of my 2 $10 new credits that we receive.

Oh well, live and learn I guess. Now I have to place two more orders to use the $10 monthly credits lol! They are going to think I'm crazy!

I have about 900 pages to read, but I thought I'd ask here about the IHG 5 FNC offer. I know it's been out for awhile and I'm debating if I want to do it. I know it can't be topped off. I think others are saying it's not as good as getting the points, I need a SUB ASAP, and I'm wondering if I want to do this one or not. I like using my IHG FNC in Vegas at the Palazzo and from what I can see, there are still nights under 60k. Any good place to read more DPs on this offer?

The other option for a SUB would be the CIP as I can probably hit the $8k spend in 3 months between all my bills. Which I can always use more URs.

Now back to reading all those pages!

I have the Delta Biz Amex Gold Card. And my Mom has a CitiAA Card. I forget which one. I think the one with a $95 AF. We both get free luggage. Me on Delta and Mom on American Airlines. I usually always book the tickets on the respective cards as a precaution.

But do we have to use the cards to pay for the flight in order to get the free checked in luggage?

I have the Capital One Venture X travel credit I need to use before my anniversary (I think in October 2024) and I would like to use it to pay for any airfare I book in the next 2 months.

Anyone know for certain? TIA.

Not for Delta, this I know from doing it. AA also doesn't require it, I just looked this morning so I know which card to use when I book my award flight next month.

The only one I know for sure requires it is Alaska, which annoys me so much. I feel like if they want to do that they need to offer better travel coverage like the cards I'm not using so I can get free bags.

Searching on google, (and Afan above) it seems that I do NOT have to use the branded cards to purchase the tickets to get the free checked luggage.

However, I just realized that I changed my name on all my airline website profiles since I finally changed my name on my passport to my married name after 26 years of marriage. I book all travel in my married name and I fly using my passport card as ID. I joked that I would do it as a 25th wedding anniversary gift when we got married.

My Drivers License is still in my maiden name and doesn't expire until 2026 and I don't plan to change it until then because I still use my maiden name professionally. I sign business documentation in my maiden name and many times that signature needs to be notarized, so I need ID in my maiden name. How do women that keep their maiden name solely for business do it long term?

So, ALL my credit cards are in my maiden name, including my Delta Biz Amex GC, which is now different than what is on my Delta Skymiles account and the name I fly with... I haven't flown on Delta since the name change. I wonder if the card and my Delta Skymiles are still linked, I should be okay, or if I need to also change the name on the card...:crazy2:

Btw, I still open all new cards in my maiden name... :rolleyes1

ETA - This is why I discovered that it is lucky that my DH is the CSR holder and not me, because when we had to transfer UR points to Emirates when reserving business class flights home for MXP-JFK in 2023, we HAD to do it from his Chase account to Emirates because the names on both had to match exactly. I would not have been able to make the transfer from my Chase (maiden name) to Emirates (married name).

So, I know I’ve seen a lot of chatter about the best card to get teenagers starting out, but what about a new resident to the US? My mother in law is a green card holder, has a full time job, but has never had any sort of credit in this country. Any first-timer cards that’ll be easier to get in her situation? Or is her best bet to go to her bank (BOA) and get a secured card to start out?

This may be an issue.

Also to me there's always been a difference in using names professionally and legally. Even if you go your middle name, that's not how you'd legally sign something. Or Tom vs Thomas.

Lots of actors use different names, they aren't signing legal docs with it, just their autograph.

Having 2 dif forms of I'd with dif names would just be too much of a hassle for me.

I’m holding for just a few weeks to hit 90 days since my last Chase card (pers) although that was only 3/24. I’m pretty set on the CSP for Hyatt transfers.

It's technically my legal name from birth. My marriage certificate states that I would be changing my surname but I never did (until now).

Whenever I use my married name such as on my mortgage and deed, etc - the documents usually have aka maiden name referenced on it.

I do not want to change my name used in business tbh. It is too much work to do so over multiple businesses and assets - 40 years worth of various deals.

Anyway, maybe I shouldn't have changed it at all! :rolleyes1
