Happening all over. I had my home and auto (and umbrella) with the same company (Travelers) for a couple of years. Price went up a lot with the November bill. Ended up switching to Erie. Overall price was lower, slightly better insurance coverage, and I get to use their stupid app to earn $130 a year back in gift cards for being a good driver. Woo hoo.
Erie is who we have and still had the big increase. We use a broker who is pricing her other providers for us (and states that Erie generally has the lowest increase of the bunch), but I'm going to branch out and get some quotes of my own. Does anyone have their insurance though Costco?

yes that's what I'm seeing- I can do fidelity but it seems easy enough to open schwab and use that instead since there are no fees that I can see
***Schwab question- it seems it's also a brokerage account? Do I need to use that or do anything with it at the moment? I don't want or need another right now I just wanted checking
I just use the checking.

So, we are traveling to London and Paris in September, flying into London and out of Paris. We are on AF coming into EWR. I'm booking our flight home from EWR (into CLE) on United and I have the option of a 3 hour layover in economy or a 5 hour layover in 1st for the same price. My instinct is to fly economy to get home asap, but on the other hand, we will be first/business for all our other flights, so going to the back of the plane will suck lol. Granted, it's less than 2 hours so not a big deal either way, I have the United card so no baggage fees. I'm assuming 3 hours is more than enough with Global Entry?

I would do the shorter layover unless you're good at entertaining yourself at airports. Usually we get fed so much on biz class transatlantic flights that it takes away something we could do during a layover--eat at a restaurant or lounge! I would just want to get home

I was going to open my very first Hilton card to cover some hotels when we're in Portugal for 2 weeks in January but DH also has an offer for 150K MRs to open a second Biz Gold that ends this month. Or we could go for a CIP and help rebuild our low URs. The cash rates for some of the Hilton properties seem so reasonable, like $100-$200 per night, even SLH properties. And except for Lisbon, we're moving around too much to take advantage of 5th night free (and in Lisbon, we're staying at a Hyatt). So not sure if we should just pay cash...

What would you do? On the one hand, we have an actual use for the Hilton points rn. On the other, we could pay cash and earn more MR or UR, which we find more useful

We switched from Allstate to Costco (American Family Insurance) for our car insurance a year ago. It came in at $300 cheaper for 6months with better coverage, then at renewal it went up and was only $160 cheaper than Allstate, so it's creeping up. I guess I'll see what our October renewal comes in at, or if I'm back to my original rates with Allstate.

I priced out home insurance with Costco as well, but they came in slightly higher by $26 than Allstate, so I didn't change.

Home insurance bill hit my email this morning. No claims, 32% increase, with State Farm. No policy changes I'm aware off but I haven't actually reread the policy yet this morning.

I'm insured by State Farm in Maryland.
We changed our of state farm this year. 1k increase for no reason. Never had a claim.

I've had a small claim over 30 years ago.

That said after doing some research, I'll be staying with SF.

Checked DD's policy from another carrier on a similar home in same area and she's paying more.

And it looks like my policy as written is below the averages already. I would never cut my coverage and I'm already doing a 1% deductible on a replacement home policy.

How many Hilton points are the places you're looking at? In general, I find that the aspirational properties going for $1000+/night are worth using points on. The cheaper places, I would just pay cash since they often don't reach my target of at least 0.45 cent per point.

Which Hilton card are you considering? Do you need status benefits from it? MR can be transferred to Hilton 1:2 and there are transfer bonuses that can make it 1:2.8, so that biz gold SUB is worth at least 300k Hilton.

I would do the biz gold since it's expiring. Then the CIP before the elevated SUB expires. The Hilton only if you can fit in the extra spend (the MSR is usually less though).

Can you pay with credit card?

Yes, I paid the 6 month premium with credit card both times, which was a plus since I was working on MSRs. With Allstate, I had to have it direct debited from the bank for the pay in full discount. But with the Costco insurance, you still get the pay in full price and you can meet your MSR!!

I didn't even know Costco had insurance. I assume you don't get the 2% back for the executive membership?

I have a question the new 5 FNC Chase IHG premier personal card offer. What is the time limit on when they need to be used?

Sent dd (myself) a referral link for dd to apply for a new CIP and got an "in review" message. Is this going to be a denial? When I call the status line?

Does anyone have any hotel or cabin recommendations for Gatlinburg? There will be 7 adults, 2 kids, and a baby. We’re planning to go next September, spending 3 days in Pigeon Forge before moving on to Gatlinburg. We’ve found some cabins but we’re having a hard time agreeing. This is my first time planning a trip with other family and it’s going about how I expected it to 😆

ETA: One family already backed out. This is why I don’t plan family trips 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️
