Question - I want to get the Disney visa in time for our trip (leaving 2/18) because the 10% discount offered in select restaurants will be worth it for us.

BUT - DH just got denied for a chase business card on 1/29 (I think because his business is a real estate agent? He is 0/24 with credit in high 700s). Does that mean we need to wait 30 days before he can apply for Chase Disney?

I am 7/24, so there's no point in me applying right?
Ugh.

Thanks for the response, reliev.

I've not gotten a card yet, but looking at the gold. Blue doesn't get free bags, iirc, and we don't spend enough or travel enough to make the other options worth it to us.

For the Disney card, we typically go once every few years and might be able to take advantage of the merch discount once or twice during those trips. Overall, I'm feeling more and more like the Disney card just isn't work the hit to my credit and wouldn't serve us well in the long-run.

Each card will drop your credit a few points. Or not at all. I have had both happen to me. Usually your credit will reset or improve within a 2-3 month period of opening the card, provided you continue to be cautious and make your payments on time. I don't open a lot of cards but usually when I know I will have some large spend and have advance warning or knowledge of a large spend, I'll open a card.

I don't think there's a chance you can get a Chase card at 7/24 unless you have a star offer on your account. It would be under 'just for you'.

As for your husband, there is a 1/30 rule for business cards. So he has to wait 30 days to reapply for the United card, restructuring what category he uses for his business.

But, since he is 0/24 for personal cards, he can apply for the Disney card. There is a $300 statement credit offer on the $49 fee card (after spending $1000 which is the best offer I've seen on any disney card. Pay the fee, pocket $250 and use your 10% discount where you can get it. Then after keeping the card for a year, downgrade it to the no fee card to avoid the next fee. The $1000 spend will also earn you an additional $20.

UR booking question - I'd like to book 3 nights in June at HRH at Universal. I have approx. 72k UR points, but the 3 nights is 167k UR's. If I book using up all of my UR's and pay the rest in cash, is the cash portion due at the time of booking? I tried using the portal, but I don't want to actually hit the redeem button to see if it makes me put the rest on a credit card. Does anyone know if the cash portion would be due at the time of booking? My other option is to just book one night using points, and book the cash portion on a separate ressie, but then I have to deal with two different reservation numbers, and I'd lose out on part of the 1.25 multiplier. TIA!
Yes, it will ask you for a credit card to pay the balance.

YAY!! Thank you for being right! :yay: Just applied and DH was approved. I also read somewhere that the Disney Visa gets 10% off VIP Tours? If that's right, this card is pure magic (we are doing a VIP tour on our Feb trip - so excited!). And even if we don't get that discount, we will eat at enough of the restaurants on the list that the 10% will be super valuable. Thanks again!!

The Merc discount is online even though we have an Disney annual pass it's fantastic. They do the 10 percent online for card holders all the time then I'd guess 5-6 times a year they do 30 percent off $100.
Also sometimes this stacks with a 10x rakuten rebate as well.

Yes the gold one is the one to get then for us at least slowly kept getting the higher ones and such when i figured how much we were spending I'm going to get diamond this year I'm pretty sure stoked about that thanks to the status rolling over again.im also not a churner I try to see long value with cards it's hard to get my P2 to remember all the bonuses for each card 😂

ok thanks. I thought I might get one, but I haven't. Can you access the form in your account or is it mail only?

I found where it would be in my account, and it says there are none. Can I assume I am not getting one then?
Not sure. I think if it’s not there tomorrow you’re safe since tomorrow is 1/31.

I’ve got the CSR, and I’m looking at booking a car rental through the Chase portal. If I use URs, do I still get insurance coverage from my CSR? If not, can I put $1 of the cost on my CSR, pay the rest with points, and get coverage?
Yes, you'll get the insurance coverage from your CSR even with just a $1 charge. Definitely put some nominal charge on your CSR, because if you go to file a claim, you have to document the credit card statement that shows the charge for the car rental.

Did this happen to anyone else? or do Marriott certificates drop today? My AF isn't due until March and they gave me my certificate today, Are they reading this board /s or has this always been the case? I just never pay attention before because I would burn them so quickly.

I got an email about my FNC too, and like you my AF isn't due until March (on my Amex Bonvoy). There's no actual FNC in my account when I checked though. I think it's just a mistake, and you'll have to wait until sometime in May for the actual FNC to drop into your account. Amex takes 8-12 weeks after the anniversary date to give you the award, whereas with Chase it's in the month of card anniversary.

yeah, I looked after this post I didn't see it either. You're probably right but I have a feeling too that if this point chart is as bad as they think it's going to be Amex is going to get a lot of cancelations, I'm curious if they give me anything with little to no spend the last year probably not. I basically burned my credit on a 3 day weekend for a hotel that used to be much cheaper in points that we liked, not sure if its worth keeping for that alone as much as Dunedin is nice.

Well looks like MI is up for a possible snow dump this week! I want damn snow days, LOL. It'll be interesting how it pans out. It's supposed to be rain turning to snow Wed morning. Then possibly 6" Weds, and another 8" on Th. The question is, will we be out Wed-Fri? Or just Th/Fr. I just love it when supers wait and make us go, then scramble to release early. Also have a new superintendent, so I guess we'll see what kind of canceler he is, LOL.

We used 2 (or 3) days already thanks to all the gun threats. So we have 3-4 snow days still on the books. Plus my district goes more days/hours than required in MI. So I think we're still very much good to go. And I'm also hoping the state waives those "gun" days off since it was a lot of the state that had to close schools.

I'm also trying to figure out my plan of attack w/ this storm. I don't have a snowblower. I have a straight driveway (up to a side entry garage) and a circular drive in front. My 16yo's Trax will be in the circular drive. And she doesn't have AWD. I could maybe squeeze her into my garage if my son picks up his hockey mess. My mom has a snowblower and currently a broken ankle, so she's not going anywhere. I'm thinking I need to probably go steal her snowblower and send my son out a few times to blow during the day. I've heard we're getting anything between 12-22". And while my Jeep will be able to get through it, I know my daughter's won't.

Adulting stinks!

I found this, but no mention of initial sign up bonus:

Additionally, Chase will be adding a brand-new business credit card to its suite of IHG cards — the IHG Premier Business Card. The card will have a $99 annual fee and will also debut on Mar. 24, 2022.
The new card will look very similar to the IHG Premier, but with a few differences. The new card’s bonus categories include some common business-related expenses that should appeal to small-business owners:
  • 10 points per dollar at IHG Hotels & Resorts worldwide, in addition to points earned by being an IHG Rewards Club member
  • 5 points per dollar on travel and at gas stations, dining/restaurants, social media and search engine advertising, and at office supply stores
  • 3 points per dollar on all other purchases
Similar to the personal IHG Premier, you’ll earn automatic IHG Platinum elite status and the opportunity to earn Diamond elite status after spending $40,000 on purchases and making one additional purchase each calendar year on the IHG Premier Business. The card also comes with the same 10,000 bonus points and a $100 statement credit after spending $20,000 on purchases and making one additional purchase each calendar year.
Also, like the IHG Premier, you’ll get a free night on every account anniversary (starting with your second year as an IHG Premier Business card holder), the fourth night free on award redemptions, a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck fee credit (up to $100 reimbursement every four years) and $50 in United TravelBank Cash annually.
Aside from the bonus categories, the main difference between the IHG Premier Business card and the personal IHG Premier is that with the business card you’ll have the opportunity to earn a second free night. With the IHG Premier Business, after spending $60,000 on purchases and making one additional purchase each calendar year, you’ll earn a free night certificate that can be used at any hotel costing 40,000 points or less, Or, you can add points from your IHG account to redeem the certificate at any hotel of your choice that costs more than 40,000 points.
Finally, if you have one of the old IHG business cards, you’ll want to note that all legacy IHG business card holders will be migrated to the new IHG Premier Business card when it launches, though the effective annual fee increase for legacy holders won’t go into effect until 2023.

I am very excited to add this card, LOL. I guess I'm holding onto my 4/24 until this car launches. Then I'll have to MDD in the summer.

Tried for retention on DH's plats again. Got 40k for $3000 spend a couple weeks ago. Today got the 55k for $4000 spend offer that I wanted on the one that was an upgrade (the other one still at 40k). Yay! That's the one I wanted to keep more since it's an older account. Also have an AU on that one with the 20k offer I haven't worked on spend yet. So I think it'll stack.

Tried for retention on my Bonvoy Biz. Didn't get transferred again. Was told no offers but also to call. Not sure what is it about that card and my account.

Forgive me - are you getting these retention offers online? I thought you always had to call.... where do I find them online? Thanks!

Question for all the Hawaii experts... I had planned at trip for 2020 for DH, DD, DS, and myself using Hilton points to stay at GW. Of course that trip was cancelled due to the pandemic and now that I'm looking to reschedule, our family dynamic has changed as DS is getting married in March. So now it will either be just DH and me, or we will be taking extended family and GW just won't work unless I can earn lots more points/FNCs. So I'm looking for other suggestions in Maui that could accommodate a group of 6. I'm thinking since it'll be DS and my new DIL, that DD will probably want to bring her boyfriend who she's been dating for a long time. We would love to find a place we could book on points, but maybe they'll be some type of PYB with Chase at that time that we can take advantage of. So what we're looking for is some type of villa/townhouse that could accommodate a group that size. Or maybe Airbnb?
