Is there anyway to book Amtrak tickets through the UR portal? I looked and didn't see anything, but thought I might be missing something, so wanted to be sure.

We're looking at doing the train between Denver and San Francisco. We've never done anything like it before, so thought we might try it.

Fidelity also has an ATM card with no FTF if you have an account there.

United has a direct from ORD to KHL and Maui has pretty much perfect weather all year round.
I did not know either of these things. Both DH and I have 401k accounts with Fidelity. And maybe I should start looking at United. I've been avoiding them since a disastrous flight from China but it's been 12 years...🤔

Figured this group might be knowledgeable about what’s going on with airline flight schedules. Hubs and I are planning a quick getaway in September for food and wine. He finally transferred UR to United and we were going to book flights we’ve been watching today. Well, there is now only one direct flight out of Newark to mco that day and only $1800/ticket business first! There were multiple flights that day earlier in the week. Next day is not any better. Not an expert on flights but this seems weird.
traveling has been pretty chaotic since everyone now is just traveling after all the lockdowns and such. On top of that, carriers currently also are having a hard time finding people that they let go during the pandemic so most airlines arent running at 100%.

This is where points can help, although availability is a different story. You may get some luck by finding some last minute tickets though. but that is a pretty big risk to take, but rewards might be worth it.

could be a idea to add the flight to the hopper app and let hopper alert u of the price. it will also tell u if its time to buy your ticket or not based on price and predictions.

hope that helps.

UGH THIS SAGA WILL NOT END!!! Going on a week w/ my avios still MIA. At this point Avios.com reps don't understand what the issue is w/ BA. They've sent all they need to for BA to reissue the 200k avios. I called them 3 times today and BA twice. The second BA rep told me it'll take 7 business days (it's been 6) and they will get to it. The Avios rep I got tonight agreed this is all BS. She gave me her schedule and said she will try to contact BA tomorrow herself, and if not Tuesday when she's back at work. I'm not even checking availability right now as I'm soooo scared the flights will be gone.

My BF suggested asking Avios to hold my flights since this is a cluster&%ck and it's not my fault. The rep tonight told me she wished she could, but apparently they stopped holding flights a year ago and now can get fired if they do it. UGH. I'm just really really really hoping this all works out soon and FAST!

Has anyone book air lingus with avos? is there a better way to search than this horrible British airways site?
Check on Avios, but it sucks too. And see check my lovely saga. I've had 200k avios missing after trying to transfer them last week (the fees are lower w/ Aer Lingus than BA).

The aer lingus site is worse. I would pay for point.me... I think the $5 for the day would totally be worth it, or $12 month

YUP! Point.me is how I started searching than used avios.com to check how many seats were still open.

Sedona & Scottsdale probably won’t be warm enough for a pool day in January, but I live here, and upper 60’s low 70’s is sweater weather for me 😂 Sedona will probably see highs in the 50’s or 60’s and quite possibly have snow. Scottsdale would be 60’s or 70’s. Still absolutely better than frigid winters of the midwest, but maybe not pool weather. Excellent for sight seeing though 👍🏻
My very first trip out of New England was a business trip in March of 1993 to Scottsdale. We barely made it out of Boston before a huge snow storm. When we arrived at our hotel, we were walking through the resort with our wool coats on and there were oranges in the trees. I loved that trip! We drove up to Sedona stopping along the way. We saw Indian ruins, a chapel and a ghost town. I always said I would go back but haven’t yet 😔

Respectfully, your score didn't go to 850 because you started paying your accounts weekly, your score went to 850 because you're old now 😉.

AAoA is de facto age discrimination. It's mathematically impossible for a young person to have an 850 score.
How young are you assuming this is impossible for?

ok thanks, I'm still going to wait a month not willing to risk 150k points for japan just yet then ill go this route. knowing my luck my sky pesos will have a flash sale to Dublin right after i do it :)

before the house I was in now I had no debt and I had 825 score for a while it never got higher. Right now I'm at 825 again with a mortgage so maybe when it's paid off? I'm not sure also killing off loans like student loans cars etc all made my score go down I think I've had 6 cars in ~20 years.

well @captain america 2003 made the statement about mathematical impossibilities at a certain age,I was wondering what exactly that age is......

So I thought I had my car insurance situation straightened out but State Farm had my ex husband (ew) on the policy not my son. When they added my son and took off my ex it wasn't much of a savings. So I stayed with Geico. Yesterday I got my renewal notice and they were increasing my premium almost 25%. No tickets, accidents, new cars, or new drivers. I called and was told it was based on higher repair costs and medical costs in my area. Anyway, I switched over to Liberty Mutual and am saving $1500/year. I know insurance companies have actuaries who determine risks, but seriously this is so stupid. I guess they count on people just accepting the higher costs.

I'm looking for ideas for a relaxing early January getaway. I already know that late fall through Christmas will be busy/stressful and I'd like 3-5 days to unwind.
I'd like someplace warm as we live in the Midwest. I thought of Key West or Sedona/Scottsdale but I'm open to any ideas. A resort with a nice pool would be ideal. We are not really the type to sit on a beach for a week, but one day would be fine. Thanks!
DH and I have made Key West our go to in Jan (to beat the winter weather of...NW Florida  ). We stay at the Hyatt Centric (which sadly went up in category), listen to the waves, eat at restaurants on the water, watch the hearty Midwesterners go in the pool and just wander around Key West before the partying gets started. If you're a Hilton person, there are 2 nice Hilton Curio properties on the island but unless you book right when the schedule opens, they seem too high in points (for me), as well as a Doubletree, HGI, and Hampton Inn. DH and I walked to the Hilton Curio The Reach Resort in January this year and wandered around their grounds and the pool seemed pretty nice with a hopping bar :)

If you have any questions about The Centric, please feel free to dm me.

Good morning everyone! I just squeaked in my MSR for the most recent CIC (whew! That was harder than I remember it being... which is crazy considering the cost of fuel!)

I may be flying into Canada in a couple months for work. I have a passport; is there anything else you can think of that I have to have? I read the Canadian travel website (?) but I figured if anyone has any tips for me , this will be the group who does! Thank you!

I hope you do make it back. March is quite possibly the best month for a visit. Really perfect weather. There’s been a tremendous amount of growth, and a population explosion since the 90’s. Might be time for you to come back and see the changes 😉

My investments are at edward jones and I'm happy with my credit union for banking. Just looking for somewhere to put some of my vacation savings so I can access it via atm on infrequent trips out of the country. Money won't move into it often and the balance will be low as I want to have quicker access for paying cards without having to plan ahead 😂 Basically free and no hassle or I'll just suck it up and pay the fees for my cu to use the atm.
I'm with you. I don't want to open up new accounts. I just thought it might be helpful to know in case you had some accounts there.

I did not know either of these things. Both DH and I have 401k accounts with Fidelity. And maybe I should start looking at United. I've been avoiding them since a disastrous flight from China but it's been 12 years...🤔
When DH heard that Schwab had that ATM card, he called Fidelity (where a lot of those retirement accounts are) and asked them if they had one too and he was happily surprised when they said they did. It's definitely worth checking that one out if your accounts are there.

I feel the same about AA these days. DD took that United flight a few months ago and met us in KHL. She said it was a great flight. They are using a dreamliner on that route (and she got the lie flat Polaris seat so that was fantastic for such a long trip) and it saves so much time when you don't have to stop and connect.

Yes, its one of the offers that you click to add.
Here is the specific offer. I wasn’t sure if the wording about the qualifying link meant I couldn’t go thru ibotta.

Do you have home and auto with LM? I have both with MetLife (they were cheapest by far when we moved last year) and home went up $500 per year and auto went up almost $300. No changes at all except MetLife is now Farmer's ☹️

Just auto. In VA we have these group called Mutual Assurance Society of Virginia that will insure your property. Year 1 is expensive (like twice what I was paying) but subsequent years are dirt cheap (like a third of what I was paying). So once you start using them you never want to leave.

I did have LM quote out umbrella. I was paying $600 for $1 million with RLI. LM was at $1000. Thankfully RLI is stand alone so I can keep that policy.

Usually I bundle to get a discount but I checked a few companies and one might be cheaper on home but more on auto or vice versa. Ulitimately no real savings.

I think tomorrow that Amex biz platinum offer expires (150k MRs for $15k MSR, nll). I'm tempted but also thinking I'll just go for another Chase Business card. I have an $8000 tax payment due 9/15. I also am coming up on a renewal fee for my CS Platinum. I'm struggling with whether to pay it (I got a retention offer last year) and hope I get a retention offer next year, or canceling it. I'm not sure if the value if there for me and I think I'm done with MR cards for now so keeping it to cash out isn't that important. I'll probably end up on Amex's naughty list, but that was probably inevitable. For me, UR > MR.
