OT but I know we have several frequent posters with teen boys-- I need recommendations for cologne for high school boy. Stacking the Rakuten codes with some gift cards to knock out the list.
Just for the laughs I would get him some from Victoria's Secret. They do have Men's Cologne and it's pretty good.
Update to my Chase Travel URs versus SW RR's flight. This morning I decided to start off by calling SW first and just have them look up the confirmation number and let me know if they can help. Immediately the rep said I see it here, looks like you booked it through your work's business? It shows as Global Business booking on their end. Told them about booking with Ultimate Rewards as opposed to transferring them to RR's and now it doesn't appear I am able to keep the difference in price as a travel fund if I change my flight - I'd rather, of course, be able to have the travel credit to use as for a future flight, is there anything you can do for me? She asked what flight do you want to and a minute later told me that your flight has been changed and you have an $89 credit to use by 11/30/22. It would not let me do anything online myself and his was the 3rd SW rep I had talked to over the last few days but I knew it would be easier than trying to talk to Chase Travel again, so it was worth the shot. Worked out and it appears they must have some ability/flexibility to override the global business booking.
For reference this was my thought process in using UR's over transferring. 1. it was a rather expensive one way and it the value was calculating to 1.35cpp. 2. DW (the traveler) needed one more paid trip to reach A-List so I thought that would be nice to have all next year. Everything would have worked fine if the original trip stayed the same but flexibility really suffers if you have to change or cancel the trip according to Chase Travel. I will probably not go this route again in the future. My advice is to do anything you can to first solve via a SW rep versus dealing with Chase Travel.
Thank you for following up, I can certainly understand with it being the last flight needed for A-List. The lack of flexibility is almost always the downfall of booking 3rd party. I'm glad to hear you got a SW Rep that was willing to do it for you.

Question since I'm such a newbie to doing taxes outside of escrow......

My taxes are due late Jan I think. I already bought Visa Gift Cards (to hit my CIC spend). They are just sitting in a drawer. Is there any reason not to just pay the taxes now? I have the money sitting in "my escrow account" (aka, a bank account I'm earning a bonus on). I haven't paid off the VCGs on the CIC yet since I have 0% for a year.

Just trying to figure out all this adult crap, LOL. Yesterday I was talking to my 16yo about mortgages and other financial stuff. She was like I DO NOT WANT TO BECOME AN ADULT. I laughed and said neither do I, LOL.

Thank you! Was it hard being so close to Disney but not going to the park? I'd have to go to at least MK!
I was there for a short weekend end of October....we didn't go to parks bc we wanted to relax...I didn't miss them at all,I have no desire to mess around with reserving things and genie etc. That's stressful IMHO. If you're concerned about crowds, you may want to be very flexible..... I avoid crowds, and mask up indoors still- on Sat. evening we walked thru Disney springs to get to our hotel...it was CROWDED. It's honestly the ONLY time thru this whole thing that we've worn our masks outdoors..... SO plan accordingly. I love the resort in general, the restaurants, the various ways of lazily enjoying a day at Disney, but I don't miss the parks, and what they are right now.

Tax implications? I can't deduct anymore so it wouldn't matter for me.

Ours are always due late January- we've always paid them mid December bc my DH wanted me to do that for the tax year (or something lol) so yeah you can do that.

I would call. Did you get a credit pull?
Yes. Checked Experian this morning and Chase did a check on December 5th. My current score is 797, which should easily qualify me for the Aeroplan card. Wondering if I should call. Does anyone have the number (can I use the number on the Experian report)?

Thank you for the input. With the testing (antigen 24 hours before we leave and PCR before we head back) and only being there for a few days I think we are shelving the trip. One of my nagging worries is that 1 of us could test positive and then what? Dd would miss several days of school and she's in a very demanding / rigorous program (bio chemical engineering), so that would be catastrophic. Also ITA about the planning / reserving -- I like to try to relax when I'm away and waking up early just to secure rides would not be much fun for me. I didn't mind having a detailed plan (done in advance of our trip) for the parks in the days of FP, but Genie seems more stressful.

Depends on your tax situation….if you itemize and aren’t already above the $10k SALT limit ….
pay now it would be a 2021 deduction, in January a 2022 deduction
Nice that you can pay the taxes with the $200 GCs…..here I can only use one payment method to pay the full amount owed

Is the amex travel portal prepay? So if I use the 200 credit they gave some plat holders for a hotel next year I'll be ok? I know they extended it but I just want to make sure. Also because I'll need to call the hotel and ask them to combine it with a fnc booking.

Here's your friendly reminder that Southwest Airlines next schedule release is expected to occur TOMORROW on WEDNESDAY December 8th. For those planning to snag flights, set those calendar reminders so you don't forget! I'll post additional reminders as the date draws nearer. This is my final reminder :)

Currently SW is offering flights through 4/24/22 and this next release will take their schedule out to 6/4/22.
For those that care about "release timing" it can vary, but here are the recent "go live" of previous releases:

Release Date // Time (eastern)
06/10/21 // 7:15am
04/01/21 // 9:10am
12/10/20 // 7:15am
08/13/20 // 9:15am
05/28/20 // 9:06am
03/12/20 // 9:40am

I can’t answer your question, but this made me chuckle because I can’t even get my 14yr old DS to wear deodorant. 😂
Oh great, so it's not going to get any better for my 12yo? 12yo post hockey.....It must be the 23 years teaching mostly boys that has kept me from dying from his stench, LOL. My 16yo bought her brother all kinds of bodywash and sprays in hopes he won't smell, LOL.
My almost 13 yo "forgets" deodorant too 🙄 and it's quite the effort to get him to shower. I'd settle for foot powder daily because he has the sweatiest stankiest feet. No way he'd wear cologne. When DS had the puberty talk at school, the nurse doing the parent briefing was male and admitted to faking showers when forced. He would go in the bathroom, turn on shower, get water on his hair, then sit and wait until it was "long enough" before turning off the shower. He said his mom caught on gave him lots of "hug & sniff" after showers and sent him back to take a real shower. 😂. Boys.

Some bookings are that way. That's how I used my 2021 Hotel collection $200. I had already used DH's bonus 200.

I'm not talking about fhr or the hotel collection credit though. Those are all too much $.

I'm talking about just the regular travel portal that I can use the 200 plat credit good on hotel, rental or airfare. It's not a normal credit and I don't normally use the portal. I know if I booked with mr it would take them right away, but I don't know if it works the same if paying cash.

ETA it's good until june so even if it doesn't work now it'll come off in March when I stay. But I still expect it to be prepaid.

How long has the card been open? When I went to enroll my Venture X after the card arrived, I also got an error. I want to say there was a message that I should wait 5-10 days after approval to enroll. When I tried again on day 5 or 6 it went through no problem. If it’s a new card, there might be a slight delay to enroll.
How do you enroll with the Venture X? I tried entering my credit card number with Priority, and it says it's not valid.

Having my first remodel panic attack. Not sure what happened, but the ceiling below my master bath is now damaged. One of the recessed lights is hanging and the joints are super pronounced. Trying to take it in stride but I hate things out of order and having my kitchen ceiling all messed up is going to stress me out. At least the bathroom door I can keep closed.

My understanding is if you canceled less than 7 days, they would charge you 2 nights of the cash rate. 😱 But you would get the points refunded. If you had to do this for an emergency, hopefully you'd be able to plead your case with the hotel.

You should get the points refunded if more than 7 days before.

ETA: A couple threads I came across about this before:
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hya...on-t-show-up-nonrefundable-award-booking.html
I wonder what happened with the guy who was charged $10k for Calala. 😱
Eek! How on earth would they determine the cash rate when the hotel is sold out?? It would probably "cost" less just to have all the points forfeited. Geez. And I saw that reddit post too when I was searching for answers. I would hope the travel insurance provided by purchasing the airfare with CSP/CSR would cover that, as long as it was a covered event.

Go under the rewards section on the venture x part of the capital one sight. Like you are looking at your miles. There’s a sub section I think it’s all the way on the right. ( I’m not at a computer right now). Scroll down to priority pass and enroll there. I enrolled by going through the capital one site.
