Since we found a dog sitter for Aug, I am now busy changing our local plans. I was able to get the Hilton Sandestin for 5 nights and now I have 3 additional nights to figure out. Torn between trying out Savannah or going back to Clearwater. I figure we could drive from Clearwater and stop at UF and FSU on our way so DS could check out those schools.

Should check out the best school in Florida... UCF instead :)

We did Epcot last week for fireworks. Got there early evening and walked on Spaceship Earth, Nemo, and Imagination. Test Track had a 75 min wait so we skipped that. But the kiddo friendly rides were definitely not crazy wait times. Hopefully you both experience the same. It was the "Diet Epcot" experience, so no Festival happening. Food and Wine may draw more people out than we saw last week. I only ventured out because some friends were in town. I was going to skip out on our reservation for the Park because I just couldn't psyche myself up to go with all the changes lately. But, I had a great time and was glad we went. If I was vacationing I would definitely spend most of my time at the hotel. We did a night at Art of Animation and just used the pools and skylinered to Riviera for dinner and skipped our Park reservations.
Our Epcot plans depend on if they open earlier or not and how many naps Ds is taking. He currently takes 2 but might only take one by September. I was planning to go in the morning to see what we can get done then try again after his naps in the afternoon. I also wanna eat some food from the booths if the lines aren’t too long. We’re very go with the flow. It’s more about Ds walking around and enjoying being there. He could care less about the rides. We’re staying in a family suite at AoA! I’m so excited. We’ve never stayed there. I hope Ds likes the skyliner. I have a breakfast at toppolinos scheduled

I like that idea. I was actually thinking of maybe the Cape in September after Labor Day. I was reading on the camping board and looking at a lot of pictures of lobster rolls. And clam strips and fries, plus the beaches.

Seriously thinking of canceling or renting out my early November trip. I've had no desire to go for quite a while. Still have my grand villa in Hilton Head right after the food and wine trip so not like I would have nowhere to go.

The points I have tied up in Food and Wine for November are all BWV and bankable as they are October 2021 points, so I'm good if I cancel.
So far I have 3 nights in bar harbor to visit Acadia national park. This is just at a little motel, booked through the UR portal. It claims it just bought by new owners and the rooms have all new interiors since April. Not fancy, but clean, walking distance to bar harbor and a mile from the 3 to Acadia. then 3 nights at the Sebasco harbor resort which looks awfully nice. Trying to hunt down 2 nights in Boothbay harbor and a reservation for the cabbage island lobster bake.

A different trip than Disney, but hopefully fun. I rescheduled Disney to spring break in hopes things will really be normal by then. Bonus of far better weather than august.

If anyone has suggestions for Acadia or bar harbor, I’d love them.

I got the Capture The Moment photo shoot for our MK day for the morning so I'm just focusing on doing that. Hoping that we will find a couple of the kiddie rides open for a shorter wait. Am I correct in remembering that you got that done recently? Do you think its worth it to buy the one day memory maker? Last few times, we've had an AP so photos were free.
We have an AP so I’ve never done the capture your moment before. We’ve bought memory maker before when we didn’t have APs and I thought it was worth it but that’s when we were able to do meet and greets. I’m not sure I would get it now. The cms can use your phone for pictures and they usually turn out fine

I’m from upstate NY and my kid is really wanting to go to UCF. I am pushing her in that direction. Disney Annual passes her we come. School looks great. Visited this past month.

I grew up in Chicago....and wanted to go to school in Florida. Got into all of them but UCF gave me a great scholarship based on my high school grades making it an easy decision. I loved my time there although it was definitely much smaller when I was there.

Yeah, it's too late for us to cancel.

We will be there that same week!! When Disney started increasing capacity rapidly I was still hopeful because it seems like one could get a lot done at RD but that's not the case anymore. Lines are at 60+ minutes right at park opening.
My only hope is that they bring back FP in some form. We are going for five days end of July, beginning of August and only doing 2 park days. Based on recent reports it sounds brutal!

I think it is very doable to plan a last minute trip to Acadia. We did this in 2018 when we cancelled Glacier due to wildfires.

Our top things in Acadia/Bar Harbor
whale watching boat trip
boat trip from Acadia NP with a ranger on board. Stopped at Little Cranberry Island.
Cadillac Mountain drive to the summit. (I see you need a timed reservation now for this)
Low tide and walking across the sand bar to Bar Island
tidepooling

Park Loop Road with lots of stops- otter point, Sier de Monts, Jordan Pond
Hiking. I don’t have the trail names with me but they were some of the easy hikes due to my bad knees. None of the ones with ladders.

Have fun!

We’re just doing a quick 3 nights. The reports lately have been kind of bad there. Seems like very long lines and lots of people. I’m hoping things change before September
I’m not happy about the resent reports. When we booked our trip 6 months ago disney was doing a great job handling covid and crowds, now it’s a sh*t show, they don’t have the staff to manage the increased capacity.
I'm Miami local so my tolerance for Disney inconvenience and high cost is minimal but we spent Saturday at MK and Sunday at HS and I can honestly tell you that the worst of it was the heat. The lines were long but overall not that long - mostly in the 45 minute range for headliners. If you aren't at the very front of the pack for Mine Train, head elsewhere but there was a good 1.5 hours at MK that were great for rides. I do think Disney should do more for shade and shaded outdoor seating. I don't know why they don't install those sail-like shade structures. Eating at MK was miserable with crowds waiting for food outside of each venue. We avoided it by going to Fort Wilderness (which might not be available for long if the restaurant opens) but the same is probably achievable at other monorail / boat resorts.

The walkways weren't nearly as crowded as they used to be so that was very nice. There's no more spacing between groups so you should be aware and be comfortable with it. Overall, the heat is what did us in, not the crowds so if you can handle the heat, you will greatly increase your enjoyment. MK especially, I found to be very manageable and HS definitely empties out around 2pm. I know everyone says how crowded it is but Disney just put out another FL Resident ticket offer and hotel discounts so they must not be hitting target numbers with full price guests.

Yeah I’m researching now. It seems to be a very popular destination this summer, so I bought my car pass and I’m going to reserve 2 days for the summit in case of bad weather. Lunch or dinner at Jordan pond house, driving park look road with stops at seal point and thunder hole. Maybe whale watching. Afraid the 4 year old will get bored.

My youngest is 4, there will be no hikes with ladders. Haha.

It's been quite a few years since we were there, we also liked the Thuya Gardens. There is some parking at the top if you don't want to walk up.

Final Reminder - Old threads are now being removed - thanks!
7/6/2021 - DISchurners Announcement - Chase, Amex & Misc Support Link THREAD REFRESH

It's time for everybody's favorite event...the semi-annual refresh of the SUPPORT Link Threads.

As a reminder - ANYBODY is welcome to share their support links in these threads. The instructions are at the top of each one.

For those that have previously posted, the easiest way to move them over is:
1) Go to your OLD comment in the OLD thread (you'll see the old threads listed near the bottom of the DISchurners feed)
2) Click EDIT
3) COPY the entire comment text in the edit box
4) PASTE the comment text as a NEW comment in the NEW thread (you'll find the new threads near the top of the feed)
5) CHECK all links to make sure they are active and working and make sure that your description of the offer matches the actual offer!
You do NOT need to delete your old comment when done, you can just leave it in that thread.

This process will help you not have to re-do all your formatting.
Side Note: Many find it easiest to access DISchurners in old reddit. (https://old.reddit.com/r/DISchurners/)

Side Note 2: I would also advise that you check to make sure that all of your links are accurate and working!!

I will post reminders for this over the next week or so and will then remove the old threads with only the new threads remaining.

One more general reminder, reddit flags many support links as spam. I then go in and manually approve them. I will keep an eye on that as we conduct the refresh and approve them all as quickly as possible! :D

ALSO OF NOTE - I'VE REFRESHED ALL OTHER MAIN PAGE THREADS ON DISCHURNERS.

DH's MDD didn't work, now we have to upgrade his CFU back to the CSR. He just downgraded last month after using the $300 travel credit, do you think we'll make Chase mad?

I have a CSP that I could upgrade but thinking it might be best for him to upgrade since I have the Amex Plat in my name.

Just booked the Andaz Ottawa Byward Market for August 6-7th. Used option to pay cash / points for a Premium Suite. Came to 9,000 points and US$131.00. Cash price $356.00 (value of $0.025 / point). Yay! I'm going to visit my cousin's new baby (she doesn't talk to her mom, so I'm the stand-in grandma and I'm beyond excited!)! It will be nice to have the suite if he gets fussy or needs a nap.

Some of you may recall that last year during lock down I decided to work on a couple of new bucket list travel goals using Chase UR points to fund these goals. The Galapagos trip will be on Celebrity's newest ship, Flora which was designed for the Galapagos and is booked for early 2023.

I'm still working on the 23 night Antarctica, South Georgia, Falkland Islands trip but am wavering and may opt to cross off my 7th continent instead and visit a few countries in Africa which is also a bucket list goal.

Feels good to be planning bucket list trips again!
