No, but you and P2 should each sign up for a HawaiianMiles account. You’ll need to anyway, in order to transfer Amex MR to HawaiianMiles.
You can transfer MR from your Amex account to your HawaiianMiles account. P2 can transfer MR from his Amex account to his HawaiianMiles account.
Keep in mind that Amex typically charges an excise fee of 0.06 cpp (capped at $99 per transfer) to transfer MR to a domestic airline partner like Hawaiian. Amex waived this fee due to covid through the end of 2020, and I haven’t seen whether they’ve extended the waiver.
Also note that MR transfers to HawaiianMiles 1:1 normally, but in past years Amex has run 25% transfer bonuses to HawaiianMiles once a year making the conversion 1:1.25. I don’t think Amex offered a transfer bonus to Hawaiian in 2020. Previously,
- In 2019, it ran from about 9/23 - 10/7
- In 2018, from about 6/12 - 6/26
- In 2017, from about 6/7 - 6/21
- In 2016, from about 6/6 - 6/21
- In 2015, from about 12/8 - 12/21
Hawaiian has a dynamic chart for award seats based on inventory and demand. Check the award chart to get an idea of the range of points you’ll need:

If one of you (likely, you) gets a Barclays HawaiianMiles credit card (there are personal and business versions, but Barclays biz approvals are very ymmv), the cardholder can
receive HawaiianMiles from anyone without fees, which makes it easy to pool points from P2 for free. As a HawaiianMiles cardholder, you’ll also have access to Discounted Award fares you see on the award chart. There's also your first bag free if you pay for your flight or taxes on the card, and a companion fare discount for roundtrip cash fares.
You’ll also net another SUB from opening the HawaiianMiles card. I believe the current high offer on the personal card is 60k HawaiianMiles. In the past, if I remember correctly, the SUB for the personal and biz ranged from 35k-70k, with varying levels of spend and waived or not waived first year AF. The standard baseline offer seems to be 50k these days.
Hope this helps.
