Since Whitmer has said schools need to have a plan by 3/1, my district took that to mean, we are going back F2F on 1/25. UGH!

So I'm spending my Saturday looking for a last minute get away before I go back, a place to go for my Feb break, and what to do for Spring Break......I'm gonna need the mental aspects of vacation to deal with the sh*tshow we're about to walk into.....

Not to mention today is the first time I remember sun in Michigan in like 2 months!

I feel you. We were at reduced capacity half day hybrid for a couple months. Then, in mid November, the superintendent made the decision to go all virtual the NEXT DAY! Some parents didn’t even get notified until 7 pm that evening. I felt so bad for them having to scramble. The super’s rationale was cases were rapidly increasing in the city I work in. Well, she was right about cases increasing. In November, there were over 2000 Covid cases, which was higher than our previous high month by about 1000; however, in December, we were over 3000. So far, she still intends to bring the kids back on January 19th. I just don’t get it. Thankfully, we are in the next group to get the vaccine.

And I apologize for the Covid talk. I look at this as more of a work rant. Our super just burns my butt.

I'm getting ready to apply for a CIC, but am stumped on the categories for business. In the past I used real estate as we had a summer rental property that I used as my business. We sold the house this fall and I've read the real estate category has been if-y lately on approvals anyway. So I have two other options - I do some work as an independent contractor doing, I guess you would say, consulting? - the projects vary from admin support, project management, data analysis. But I can't figure out what category and sub-categories this falls under.
Or my other option is the old stand-by of selling on ebay. I don't mind which I go with, really just want to go with the one that has a higher chance of approval. I'm thinking "Retail, Books, Hobbies, Music, Sports, General, Nonstore retail then sub cateogory- Direct Selling Establishments for ebay sales??
Any advice appreciated. Thanks!
There's something called "other professional services." That's what I usually use for my writing biz.

I'd be concerned with getting the card in time for your purchase next week. The premium cards will ship the fastest, if you're okay with high annual fee, but benefits to offset it.

The Amex Plat, you can find 100k MRs ($5000 spend) with 10x grocery. Or if you're new to Amex, you might be able to pull up the 125k one. $550 annual fee, but you get $200/year airline incidental credit, $200/year Uber (split out monthly), $50/6 months Saks, and $30/month Paypal until June. Plus lounge access and TSA/Global Entry credit.

The Amex Hilton Aspire you'll also get quickly. 150k Hilton points, $4000 spend. $450 annual fee, free standard night soon after you get the card and again each anniversary. $250 airline incidentals credit, $250 resort credit (has to be on the list).

There's also the Amex Bonvoy Brilliant, but I think you're locked out with your Chase Bonvoy. The Amex Plat Biz, I think is currently 95k MR but spend is high at $15,000.

The Chase Sapphire Reserve should also ship quickly, but if you're not instantly approved, you'll have to call to hopefully push it through. Amex cards are instantly approved more often. Does your purchase take Amex? The CSR would pair nicely with your CFU, since you can move points to the CSR and get 1.5 cent per point redemption through the travel portal or Pay Yourself Back for restaurants/grocery/home improvement. Annual fee is $550, with a $300 credit for travel or currently also grocery/gas, and $60 Grubhub. 50k URs for $4000 spend.

If i understand it's between the Amex Platinum & the Chase Sapphire reserve.
I will spend the $5k easily and most future items do take AMEX.
I usually put approx. 30k on cards during the year.

Should i cancel other cards with annual fee or are the rewards enough to offest the high membership fee?

Thank you!
I see "Other Services (except Public Admin)" that has a sub category of "Business, Prof, Labor Political Org" and then "Professional Organizations" does this seem right?
Why can't they make this more straightforward?!?
Thanks again!

It depends on if you can use the benefits enough to justify the annual fee. Sometimes there are no fee cards you can downgrade to so you can keep the account history. But always keep a card at least a year before canceling or downgrading. The Amex plat I only keep if there's a good retention offer. But some people value the Centurion lounge access and keep it for that reason. The CSR I've kept because I value the 1.5 redemption.

Not sure when your purchase needs to be, but the Amex plat would be the absolute quickest if you need that. If you apply by Monday morning, you should get it on Tuesday. Not too sure how it is on weekends, if you'd get it on Monday.

adding @Alexle2007 to the mix. My CIC letter arrived yesterday as I saw in my informed delivery, but when I got the letter - it wasn't my card. It was the rewards info that would come with the card. Total disappointment.

And this mornings mail - crickets again.
I have my CIP replacement! It arrived today.

I'm sure the old one will turn up any minute now....

Thanks for the info. So is it the one that says: "Professional, Scientific, Tech Services" then there's a sub category, "Business Services" but after that there are science-y R&D sub categories. Do you have to select a third level category? Because none of those apply.
Maybe these choices work for your business: "Professional, Scientific, Tech Services" and then the sub-category of "Mgmt, Scientific, & Tech Consulting" then choose "Admin and General Mgmt Consulting." That may be close enough to your exact services. I think as long as you pick the closest possible description you'll be fine. Because I don't see how they can expect an applicant to list an exact detailed description if they only have a drop down menu with limited choices.

Ugggghhhhhh....I broke down and sent an SM about my Hyatt card last night to inquire about the delay. I received a response this morning that since it shipped on 12/28 and I had not received it, they promptly canceled my card and will send me a replacement.

Guess what arrived in my mail this evening...yup, my newly canceled Hyatt card. I guess the good news is they are express mailing the new one so I should have it Tuesday.

What.a.pain.

I know we have some world travelers here so I thought I would ask this group and maybe save some time on research. Can anyone recommend a safari company, preferably Kenya? Also, best airline to Africa suggestions? Once upon a time I was a Delta flight attendant but that was almost 20 years ago and I haven't flown internationally since then. This would be a "last minute" trip for this summer so I will most likely be paying cash for the tix.

Can’t help you with Kenya-specific, but we used Red Africa Safaris, a small operation in South Africa, and could not more highly recommend them!! They designed our 2.5 week trip totally to our desires and budget and I couldn’t believe the deal we got. We paid less than half of what I was seeing advertised through other tour companies. Specifically, our tour guide, Jaco, was INCREDIBLE, and he said that he also does tours in Kenya/Tanzania and Namibia/Botswana, so they might offer tours outside of South Africa, just not on the website directly. Worth reaching out and asking. I believe we worked with a fantastic lady called Amelia to plan/book our trip.

Not a safari company, but we had a phenomenal trip to Botswana in 2019 with Natural Habitat Adventures. They have Kenya trips. Warning: they are pricey, but so so worth it.

Thank you both! I will check these out.

I agree this isn't Covid as much as it's just a general rant! I don't think parents realized what they will be getting with F2F. I think they are thinking it'll be like 3/12/20 and it won't be! While I'm in school 4 days a week teaching, my kids will be home twice a week. I'll be jumping through hoops. We currently "see" students 180 min a week, 90 min twice a week. We'll be moving to 90 min a week, 45 twice a week. And likely most "in person" students will be taking the classes remote because over 50% of our students chose to be online.

So I'm gonna need all the vacations and escapes I can get! Not to mention, I get up at 10:30am on M/W/F and 8:45am on T/TH. 6am is gonna HURT! Plus I'm guessing this means the sleepovers w/ the boyfriend are over :guilty: :guilty: :guilty: Doubt he wants to deal with me getting up at 6am. UGH! Just 1251 days until I can retire, LOL

Did a quick glance through all the comments recently and r/churning DD thread today - didn't see anything that was really worth putting on the DISchurners "NEWS" thread.

Finishing off my night in the thread with a Quick Reminder of Support Link Thread refresh which is in process... Thanks! Sometime this upcoming week I'll make a final reminder and then remove the old threads. Thanks!

1/4/2021 - DISchurners Announcement #1 - Chase, Amex & Misc Support Link THREAD REFRESH

It's time for everybody's favorite event...the semi-annual refresh of the SUPPORT Link Threads.

As a reminder - ANYBODY is welcome to share their support links in these threads. The instructions are at the top of each one.

For those that have previously posted, the easiest way to move them over is:
1) Go to your OLD comment in the OLD thread (you'll see the old threads listed near the bottom of the DISchurners feed)
2) Click EDIT
3) COPY the entire comment text in the edit box
4) PASTE the comment text as a NEW comment in the NEW thread (you'll find the new threads near the top of the feed)
5) CHECK all links to make sure they are active and working and make sure that your description of the offer matches the actual offer!
You do NOT need to delete your old comment when done, you can just leave it in that thread.

This process will help you not have to re-do all your formatting.
Side Note: It is best to access DISchurners in old reddit. (https://old.reddit.com/r/DISchurners/)

Side Note 2: I would also advise that you check to make sure that all of your links are accurate and working!!

I will post reminders for this over the next week or so and will then remove the old threads with only the new threads remaining.

One more general reminder, reddit flags many support links as spam. I then go in and manually approve them. I will keep an eye on that as we conduct the refresh and approve them all as quickly as possible! :D

I will be putting out a few announcements this evening as I work through a thread refresh. A reddit thread locks after 6 months and if we want to continue the discussion, a new one is created. To draw attention to some of the various topics we have available on DISchurners, I will do these as a series of announcements tonight.

Thank you!

I'm probably too late to respond, but under Professional, Scientific, Tech Services there's a subcategory Other Professional... and then it repeats again for the third subcategory. Hopefully, you've already applied and are approved. :)

Can someone please help me figure out how to put tutoring as a business on a chase application.

I think anyone like you using their education/professional experience to perform services that are not specifically listed would use:
Professional, Scientific, Tech Services
Other Prof, Scientific, & Technical Svcs
Other Professional, Sci, Tech Services

That seems to be Chase's intended catch all for professional services that are not listed in their drop down menu.
