1/4/2021 - DISchurners Announcement #2 - News & General Discussion THREAD REFRESH

Per the NEW THREAD:
Please use this thread to track Newsworthy Topics discussed in our DISboards thread
"Newsworthy Topics" would include things such as:

  • A new credit card offer release
  • A major churning related news story (such as a program change, devaluation, etc.)
  • A change in redemption options (i.e. a new way to redeem URs, MRs, etc.)
  • Anything else deemed newsworthy by our group (perhaps even major news from one of our regulars)
ANYBODY can post here, but try to follow somewhat of a consistent format as follows:

  • Create a new top level comment for each "newsworthy topic"
  • Start with a date
  • BOLD a short headline by using "**" before and after that sentence.
  • Include a link back to a pertinent (preferably the first) comment on the DISboards on the topic
  • Try to credit whomever shared this piece of information (if you weren't the first to report it)
If something has already been added, feel free to add any discussion as a response to that comment

In general, I would keep all questions and comments on the DISboards thread, this place doesn't have enough activity to support that, it's just a great place to check in on every once in awhile!

If you see something posted during the day that you think belongs on the news thread, feel free to reply to that comment and "tag" me on the DISboards and just say @SouthFayetteFan - News thread. We've done a poor job of updating this recently, and maybe that's because there just hasn't been a lot of good news or positive churning energy. But maybe we can get back to doing a better job on it - and anybody can help!!

As a reminder - If you'd like to join DISchurners, simply send me a PM here on the DISboards and we'll get you all setup!

1/4/2021 - DISchurners Announcement #3 - OTHER THREAD REFRESHES

Advanced Strategies & Loopholes Discussion Thread
The purpose of this thread is to allow for the safe discussion of advanced strategies and loopholes. Items often discussed here are things that we'd rather not broadcast "globally" on the main DIS thread as well as "next-level" strategies that require a little more thought. Examples include the ability to get multiple Chase business cards, Modified double Dip (MDD), a guide on the SW CP, etc.

When discussing a loophole, please make sure to include any potential risks involved so that others can weigh their own risk tolerance before proceeding.

Also a reminder that we have a couple of other threads that might better fit your discussion/question:

Don't worry - if you end up in the wrong place, we'll redirect you!

HERE is a link to the previous version of this thread which may have some helpful (or outdated) information.

Manufactured Spend Discussion Thread v6.0
This is the 6th edition of our general Manufactured Spend thread... This is one thread where reading older versions might help you and spark questions.

  • See version 5.0 HERE
  • See version 4.0 HERE
  • See version 3.0 HERE
  • See version 2.0 HERE
  • And the original thread is HERE
In simple terms, manufactured spending is the process of turning credit card spend into cash, which you can then use to pay off the credit card.

The goal is two-fold:

  • Meet the minimum spending requirements to get the signup bonus when you open a credit card without actually buying a lot of stuff (thus allowing you to open many cards at the same time and not struggle to complete the minimum spend on all of them),
  • Generate miles or points without actually spending a lot of money.
Some of these strategies will have a "processing" cost to them which usually is outweighed by the value of the points or bonus you are earning. Some also might require you to float large amounts of cash and so you want to be careful to not overextend yourself.

Often we will discuss these strategies HERE as they are "advanced" in nature and require a certain degree of discretion (meaning don't broadcast them openly a.k.a. protect your knowledge).

What Card Should I Get Next - For ADVANCED Churners!
IMPORTANT NOTE: For those just starting out, this thread may not be for you - just use the main DISboards thread.

This thread is for people who are taking part in advanced strategies and loopholes and looking for a safer place to share their info and ask for advice. If you have been previously been hitting multiple Chase Business Cards, playing "games" with AMEX or just generally feel it's best to keep your "hard hitting" churning efforts off the DIS thread, please ask for help here. You might then choose to put a link on the DISboards thread asking for people to come help you here.

As a reminder, try to use proper formatting when listing your cards (i.e. MM/YY in date order).

IMPORTANT FORMATTING TIP: hit "enter" twice to start a new line of text on reddit.
Okay - that's all the announcements for tonight! Back to your regularly scheduled programming :D :D

Again: If you'd like to join DISchurners, simply send me a PM here on the DISboards and we'll get you all setup!

Help I just applied for the free IHG card and I got a "We need to review your request a little longer. We will let you know of our decision as soon as possible. Thank you for choosing the IHG Rewards Club Traveler Credit Card."

I dropped my CL on my freedom. I'm at 3/24 with my last Chase card being the Bonvoy on 10/29. I have the premier IHG card. And chase has always loved me (outside of my attempts to get the CIP when over 5/24).
I had the same issue on the IHG card. I called the next day and the rep said, “oh, it just required a manual review.” I offered to move some credit around. She asked three questions:
1) Why do I want/need this card? A: I have a planned IHG trip and the card offers excellent benefits
2) Do I plan to pay the minimum, some or in full each month?
A: I typically pay the statement balance in full each month.
3) Asked my income

She mentioned I’d opened a lot of credit in the past few months (this was the second card in 30ish days) and she moved 15k from another card to this card. Instant approval.

On the subject of Hyatt, does everyone know about the Brand Explorer award? Stay at 5 different Hyatt brands and get a category 1-4 free night. I think it's such a fun award. They currently have 18 brands, so max you can get is 3 nights. You don't need to get 5 within a year or any time frame. But you can only "collect" a brand once. As I'm plotting my organic path to Globalist, I'm keeping this in mind too. :)
I’m doing the same and as luck would have it I’ll get 5 on my first five stays. Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach in Oct. Ziva Dominican Republic in November, and Hyatt Place for overnight positioning. Then I changed February Universal from Hilton to Hyatt House and booked Hyatt Zilara for April😀

Is anyone else still on the fence about doing a Hyatt mattress run?

All the Hyatts in town are 5K points, plus the 25% back promotion, that make them 3,750/night.

I have the Hyatt card, so I already have 5 nights + 2 from a stay. I'm $3,000 away from the $5K bonus nights, so I'll have 9 nights total. That means I'll only need 11, but I would only do a 10 night mattress run before 2/28, I'm sure we'll eventually stay an extra before the end of the year. So I will be 37,500 points to get me to 29 nights. Ugh, why am I on the fence?
I thought about it too, but ultimately decided that I didn’t want to spend either money or points for something that may or may not happen in the future. I did switch over a stay in February so I’ll be able to get to 30 organically with the promos. As much as I would have loved to get the guaranteed suite upgrades for 60 nights I couldn’t justify it. BUT even with that being said I still may book a trip in the double days period, but not just a mattress run. 🤣

This is a confusing situation. Does only one of the girls drive a car and have valid insurance right now? Are they asking the other two girls who do not have valid insurance to be additional drivers while there?

Why, if they don't drive now, is it a problem while in hawaii for a month? I'd tell em to Uber or stay near public transit. If they're going there to work, then most of their time will be inside at home anyway.
Yup, that about sums it up. Don't think there is a lot of public transit on Maui. I know DD has dome some hitchhiking there in previous trips. She wants to be able to drive around the island some. It turns out the one with insurance doesn't have collision on his car, so that could be an issue anyway. I suggested she look into temporary insurance, there was some sort of article on nerdwallet. My youngest child always causes me the most stress.

I'll probably just wait for the letter

He is an authorized user on my oldest two cards (from 2005 and 2006), but those are the only cards either of us is an AU on.

Just yesterday. I think I will wait on the letter for the denial reason. He gets stressed out when he has to call.

I will post the denial reason as soon as I get that letter. There is nothing on his account so far.
Don't write it off yet till you get the denial letter

My DD rented twice in South Africa at 21. About gave me a heart attack. Lol. I told her please please please make sure there was some kind of insurance. I really have zero idea if there was any. She is not the best driver and they drive on the other side of road there. 🙈🙈. I just had to try not to think about it. Nothing I could do. Kids. Ughhhh

Lol, kids! Haha. I've never been to hawaii, assumed they would have had better public transit.

Here's a great post on rental car insurance. Skip down to the "Using your credit card for rental car coverage" section. This might be a good option, but would probably only work if she was the one renting. The next section of the post has other rental car insurance options as well.

Another potential option, though less likely is an add on to travel insurance:

Link doesn't work here, but google search Rental Car Collision While Traveling and it should be the first option.

Hopefully one of these is a good solution for the group.

The AF on my CSP posted a few days ago. Thinking of PC to CSR but wanting to make sure the value is there. Current AF for CSP is $95, CSR will be $550, so that's +$455. I'll get the $300 credit pretty quick because I can use that on grocery and dining now? So that puts me at +$155. Then I'll either be using UR to book travel or for PYB, so as long as I increase my redemption by $155 by redeeming at 1.5 vs 1.25 I'll cover the AF, so I would need to use around 65,000 UR. I'm sure I'll do more than that in a year. Does that sound right? Want to make sure I'm making the right decision.

ETA: Since I was already charged the $95 AF how will that work? Will they just bill the difference in AF on the next statement?

Nothing too thrilling but I reloaded my Starbucks app with offers on 4 of my Chase cards so I should be good for awhile :)

we were just in the drive thru line and DH said he needed to reload. Noooooo, I don’t have the right card with me. Lol. He didnt listen and reloaded with last card he used. Which means that offer was used already. 😡. I knew I should have reloaded the other day at home but we rarely go to Starbucks but have somehow been 3 times in last 3 weeks.

DS is looking to do something more active than a beach vacation for Spring Break. He suggested skiing but DH and I are not really cold weather people. He really enjoyed when we went to DC exploring, pre-pandemic. I don’t think he is looking for an amusement park. Any suggestions?

The $300 will be available immediately, I'm not sure about using on groceries and restaurants.
They will credit the $95 and will be a few months before they charge the $550. Also, don't forget about the $60 DoorDash credit.

Okay so I got denied from Chase. Like I said prior this is a first being outside of 5/24. I should be 3/24. My last card was the Bonvoy approved on 10/29. I did a refi in October too. The reason I got was...
The credit line(s) on your Chase account(s) is high relative to your income
Too many recent requests for credit or reviews of your credit

I did lower the CL on my CF, but I guess not enough. Is it worth calling when this is the reason given?

I would call, can I ask how many credit inquires you have in the last 12 months?

You could call and offer to move credit from another personal card to the new card

Anyone know how long it usually takes to receive an AmEx biz card? I was approved for the Hilton Biz on 1/1, but wasn't sure when I might be getting it. I can see it in my AmEx login, but just patiently waiting for the actual card to arrive :rolleyes1
