I'm scared.....when my ex and I bought this house 17 years ago, we noticed water in the basement, and weren't sure why (as it was winter). We found out that we had roots growing through our pipes. So a week after having our DD, we had to fork out $7k to have our yard dug up, and a new pipe installed from the house to the sewer (had to replace a chunk of our driveway too). My basement has always had water issues in one corner when it rains. I had noticed that the concrete has been "wet" stained but obv being in MI we haven't really had a ton of rain. It was crazy warm this week....
I went down to do laundry and I have a musty/wet smell. I had ran the washing machine and took a shower earlier today. When we discovered the issue prior it was when we had multiple water things running at the same time. Right now I'm doing laundry and dishes to see. The area where the drain is, is the only "finished" part of my basement. It has a raised floor. Luckily when we repaired it 17 years ago (broke w/ a newborn) we had just laid an area carpet down. So I just need to clean that area (my son has trashed) it and hopefully pull the carpet back, and fingers crossed, just unscrew the "patch". Knowing my ex, he probably did a terrible repair.
Part of me is freaking out. Last time this happened, it was christmas time as well. UGH. I have savings, but OBV I don't want drop drop the money. $7k 17 years ago, I'm sure is A LOT MORE now! Also we had to wait last time for "the spring" so they could dig up the yard. So am I left dealing with this till then? My kids honestly come over here all the time to shower/take a bath. Their dad is only .5 mile away, and my mom's house is only 7 min away. So I have other options but UGH!
The only silver lining I just had....what credit card(s) should I get to cover this mess! I'm thinking something w/ a 0% for awhile. Pay that down over time, while trying to hustle and find money (vs use my savings). NOT WHAT I NEED RIGHT NOW! I wanted to do a Spring Break in Disney, I wanted to try for Hawaii this summer (with my daughter's senior year coming) and then there is Ireland 2023 looming.
Part of me wishes I could walk from this house. My neighbor sold his house listed for 1 day (he also sold it about $70k too low, LOL). I know I have a lot that needs to be done, but I could still walk and have a nice chunk from selling. The problem is, I would turn around and have to drop more on a freaking condo since my kids are still in school. So it's not worth leaving my house. The BF lives 30 min away, so no hopes of moving in w/ him.
I'm hoping maybe I only need the pipes snaked.....but I'm not very optimistic
