Two things...
Have I been reading correctly, if using a CP on a SW flight, you only have to buy EBCI for the main person?

my CIU tracker says I have $2.53 left to spend before my bonus. But I have returned over $750 of stuff in the last 2 months. I fully intend to re-spend that, but it might take a bit, would they claw back the 75000? if they might, I will just Venmo the amount of the returns to my dd.

Ok, 3 things, I also have Disney room deposits on there, that I will not know if I am actually using those rooms or cancelling until closer to October (trying to get the rest of my DVC night still), which is 2 months after my spend is due. Will that cause a problem, if that amount is refunded down the line?
Packed for our Iceland trip and used packing cubes for the first time. I am in LOVE! Not only does it compress the clothing, but it will be nice to keep my kids clothes more organized, as we change accomodations every couple of days.

My hubby prefers to roll his clothing. He even watches youtube videos and unrolls and rerolls numerous times 😂

We bought some cheapo luggage for this trip because I read that IcelandAir is strict with their carry-on luggage requirement and their requirement is the smallest I have EVER seen (a depth of less than 8 inches!)! Really proud of myself for getting everything in rather easily, including hiking boots and 3 rain jackets, and it only weighs about 13 pounds. I am now a packing cube convert!
I love packing cubes  we have ebags brand in different colors per person. In our latest trip we spent 2 nights in one hotel, then 2 nights in a different one, etc. it was super helpful to pack outfits by night so we didn’t have to bring in everything every night. I roll and pack in the packing cubes.

I don't think anyone is more paranoid about slippery tile than I am.... :rolleyes1 When DS1 was a toddler he ran into a public bathroom that had been freshly mopped, smashed his little front teeth out,had to undergo 2 dental surgeries to remove it all.... and had no front teeth till he was 8 years old as a result..... Now I can't have slippery surfaces anywhere we live,or vacation,or visit. It's a phobia still for me 25+ years later..... (drives my DH crazy that I would only allow certain flooring in our home) so when I see marble or shiny floors I just cringe inside..... vinyl flooring has a nice 'cushion' to it if someone falls. (I'm such an old lady:rotfl:)
Same. I slipped on icy wet pavement and broke my patella, had 3 surgeries. Hurrying at work, came around a desk, slipped on freshly mopped floor, fell and broke my wrist. I work in a hospital so they called a response team and all the residents came rushing over to help. So embarrassing. But I too am a paranoid old lady. Lol. The terra-cotta tile in the lobby of the Swan is shiny, so every morning I walk around or step cautiously to make sure it's not wet.

My eight yo has some kind of volcano phobia (he prefers not to die a fiery death)
My 12 yo is just coming around to the idea of Hawaii because of the volcano thing. 2-3 years ago, I was getting "Do you want to die mom? They have volcanoes there?!?" I snuck in a trip to Alaska without him realizing there are volcanoes there too. Funny part is, when he was 2-4 he was obsessed with volcanoes. We took a trip to Costa Rica when he was 3 and all he wanted to see was a volcano.

We probably have to worry more about Mt Rainier or Mt St Helen's erupting than something happening with one of the volcanoes in HI, but don't tell him that if you plan to come here :) There are volcano evacuation signs along the road down in the valley not far from my house.

Another trip on the books now for next year. We booked 5 nights at the Grand Hyatt Kauai for next year on points. I saw that suites were available for our nights and emailed the concierge hostess and asked to apply one of our suite upgrade certificates for the length of stay. I received an email back that the upgrade certificate was applied and confirmed with the hotel. This is a really neat part of the Globalist program! I've used 3 of my 4 suite upgrade certificates from my mattress run to Globalist so far. One is for next month at the Ventana Big Sur, the next is the Park Hyatt New York for my niece's overdue Christmas present from 2019 and now the Kauai trip. I was wondering if I should choose 10,000 Hyatt points or another suite upgrade certificate once I hit the next milestone. I noticed that the difference in points between a standard room and a suite at the Grand Hyatt Kauai is 15,000 points per night so this certificate was "worth" 75,000 points. The choice seems obvious, but then again, I don't know how many other Hyatt stays I have next year where I'd want to use the certificate. Decisions, decisions.

There are 2 Marriott spend offers available this morning on my Amex Bonvoy Marriott Biz and Amex Bonvoy Marriott Brilliant.

Spend 500 get 100 - on the high end Marriott hotels.

Spend 250 get 50 - on the more basic Marriott hotels.

Also found the offer on my DD's Authorized user card

Spend 250 get 50 - on my 'regular' Amex Bonvoy.

I know there was a lot of talk awhile back about Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC. I copied it into my future trips folder, but I have a couple questions. Is the first week of November a bad time to go? Is it too late into the season? Also, could you spend an entire week (including both weekends) there, or is it a better long weekend type trip?

DH and I were going to take a cruise that week, but I'm just thinking the Covid restrictions are going to be more than we want to deal with at that time still, so we're looking for an alternative and I've always wanted to go to Savannah/Charleston.

Thanks for any advice / options!

We returned a few days ago from our East coast road trip where we spent 3 days in Charleston and 2 days in Savannah. Savannah is my favorite and I could easily do 3-4 days there - 2-3 in the city walking the squares (have had great luck with free walking tours), visiting a house or two (have never done one because we've always been with kids and they don't care too much), walking more squares, and eating and drinking. We really enjoyed Tybee Island last time with a visit to the Fort. With a background in City Planning, Savannah and Charleston are dream destinations. Charleston was also lovely and we drove over to the Fort on their beach side and were blown away with how pretty the beach towns were. We wished we had more time. We visited Boone Hall plantation with a great educational program and spent 2 full days walking around Charleston proper with great luck again with the free walking tours. I think if you like history at all, pretty buildings and a walkable town, good food and drink, a visit to the beach, you can fill a week in those 2 cities. Although we didn't partake (see: kids), shopping in both places seemed amazing.

@Judique, we did sunset kayaking at Chincoteague. The location was gorgeous but a huge disappointment that we didn't see any ponies (or dolphins or the bald eagle) especially for the cost for 6. We kayak quite a bit here in Florida and it was a flat, safe trip so if anyone would ever want to replicate, I recommend renting kayaks and doing it on your own. The guide, native to the area, said that the ponies were hiding because the auction had just finished and they were reacclimating. We had a hard time for dinner since the tour ended near 8:30 and most places closed at 9 and didn't want to seat 6 people so late. We did notice the lines for ice cream at various places were around the block and the only explanation we could come up with was that these were generational places people had gone to since they were kids and there wasn't much else to do after 9pm.

CC related:
I paid for most of the Airbnb costs with PYB from CSR. Stayed at 2 Hyatt (first time I've ever been loyal to a hotel brand) and got 2x points (Surpass) as part of a summer promotion. I noticed as a Gold member, they gave us a couple of bottles of water when we checked in, no big deal, but super appreciated since the whole trip was scorching hot and we felt semi-dehydrated all the time. When I got home, I got an email that I was promoted to Diamond until 2023.

We're at WDW now. The parks are not that busy but lines are longer without Fastpasses. The heat is horrendous. I'll take 50 Chicago winters before I come to Florida in summer again. Bad decision on my part.
We did spend 3 nights at Hilton Tuscany Village and now at Swan. I'll,post pics and a mini review for those doing the timeshare presentation after we return home.
We've had some bad luck with rides too. We were on Expedition Everest on the first climb when it stopped, stuck in blazing sun for 10 minutes before it started running again. Today, on ROTR we were boarding group 64. Ride went down twice, we were finally called around 3 pm, got partway through before it went down again. They gave us a 'fastpass' for later but must be used today. When we came out of ROTR, it was raining. Ended up walking back to Swan in rain since boats weren't running. Yay

Hope you are having a great time! Looking forward to your Hilton review as I still have to book my stay in Orlando.

DDs tuition is technically due today and we still have not received financial aid notice. Very stressed about it. We did get notice that is taking longer and don't worry about due date, but I am wondering why on year 4 it is taking so long. Ughhh, DS's family contribution did go up which I thought it would since we have 2 kids instead of 3, but am worrying about hers since it is taking so long. Have seen others on the parent page mention theirs hadn't posted as of a few weeks ago but most said theirs finally showed up. I guess I procrastinated too long in getting a new CC for DS's tuition as it is due next week.
Waiting on the final bit of my son's financial aid as well. He gets tuition remission due to my job but if the aid doesn't come in, I will have to pay a balance and then have him pay it back to me . I have to see if I can find a parent page - that sounds much more helpful than trying to get info out of my son.

I mentioned I've never really been loyal to a hotel so I'm a little lost - can someone help me understand how points were calculated on my stay?

I have a Surpass which should give 12x points on Hilton stays. This Hampton was $244 for the room ($269 including tax)

596648

I thought it would be 2,928 for base points (244 x 12), plus 2,342 (80% bonus for gold) plus 2,928 for the promotion. It seems I only got 10x for paying with my Surpass. It's the same for the Homewood Suites.

Disney with an active toddler is no joke. We only have 2 nights here and that’s plenty for me lol. He’s so headstrong and determined to do what he wants. We’re staying at the boardwalk and their playground is in the pool area so not open until 10 😕. When you have a toddler up at 5:30 am you need a playground early in the morning. We’re hoping to swim today and maybe pop into Epcot. I love the boardwalk studio! The small area by the main door is great for a stroller. We ended up sticking ds’s pack n play in the little sink area because it’s the darkest part of the room and it seems to be working pretty well

OMG, I am so excited about this trip because all of the stars seem to be aligning. We are arriving right at the tail end of the puffin season and will be there at the start of the possibility of Northern Lights (remote, but not impossible). And right now the volcano is really putting on a show, especially so at night time. My eight yo has some kind of volcano phobia (he prefers not to die a fiery death) so I think only my husband and older kids will be able to visit, and I'll stay back with him. I'm already pushing his limits with the communal showering for the Blue Lagoon :rotfl:

Here's the webcams for the volcano. Watch it tonight- it's crazy how vivid it is. https://www.visitreykjanes.is/en/vo...on-information/webcams-from-the-eruption-site

We just got back from Iceland last night (we flew United) so let me know if you have any specific questions! I will say, we didn't need all the warm clothing we were told to pack, we packed hats, gloves, coats, but a fleece and a windbreaker would have been enough and that was only a few times. We had perfectly warm weather and actually bought a few t shirts because we didn't pack anything short sleeved! So, pack less clothing and more money lol, it is EXPENSIVE there! But soooooo beautiful!!

You will not see the Northern Lights in Iceland this time of year, BUT we got lucky and saw them from the plane somewhere over Newfoundland! Amazing to see! We did see lots of puffins on the black sand beach.

eta: pic of northern lights (sorry it's sideways, not sure why)

The Surpass points is separate. It's a category spend on your cc, like you might have for dining or groceries. If the charge posted, then you'll be able to see the 12x on your Amex account. I think they get moved over to Hilton at statement close.

The points you see on your Hilton account now are just for being a member. 10x base, the double, and the 80% of 10x base (for gold).

Can you book the Fine Hotel and Resorts with Amex Gold or is that a Platnium thing?
Thinking of booking a resort for April but will most like switch my Platnium back to a gold when the annual fee hits in Nov.
