I know there was a lot of talk awhile back about Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC. I copied it into my future trips folder, but I have a couple questions. Is the first week of November a bad time to go? Is it too late into the season? Also, could you spend an entire week (including both weekends) there, or is it a better long weekend type trip?
DH and I were going to take a cruise that week, but I'm just thinking the Covid restrictions are going to be more than we want to deal with at that time still, so we're looking for an alternative and I've always wanted to go to Savannah/Charleston.
Thanks for any advice / options!
We returned a few days ago from our East coast road trip where we spent 3 days in Charleston and 2 days in Savannah. Savannah is my favorite and I could easily do 3-4 days there - 2-3 in the city walking the squares (have had great luck with free walking tours), visiting a house or two (have never done one because we've always been with kids and they don't care too much), walking more squares, and eating and drinking. We really enjoyed Tybee Island last time with a visit to the Fort. With a background in City Planning, Savannah and Charleston are dream destinations. Charleston was also lovely and we drove over to the Fort on their beach side and were blown away with how pretty the beach towns were. We wished we had more time. We visited Boone Hall plantation with a great educational program and spent 2 full days walking around Charleston proper with great luck again with the free walking tours. I think if you like history at all, pretty buildings and a walkable town, good food and drink, a visit to the beach, you can fill a week in those 2 cities. Although we didn't partake (see: kids), shopping in both places seemed amazing.
@Judique, we did sunset kayaking at Chincoteague. The location was gorgeous but a huge disappointment that we didn't see any ponies (or dolphins or the bald eagle) especially for the cost for 6. We kayak quite a bit here in Florida and it was a flat, safe trip so if anyone would ever want to replicate, I recommend renting kayaks and doing it on your own. The guide, native to the area, said that the ponies were hiding because the auction had just finished and they were reacclimating. We had a hard time for dinner since the tour ended near 8:30 and most places closed at 9 and didn't want to seat 6 people so late. We did notice the lines for ice cream at various places were around the block and the only explanation we could come up with was that these were generational places people had gone to since they were kids and there wasn't much else to do after 9pm.

I paid for most of the Airbnb costs with PYB from CSR. Stayed at 2 Hyatt (first time I've ever been loyal to a hotel brand) and got 2x points (Surpass) as part of a summer promotion. I noticed as a Gold member, they gave us a couple of bottles of water when we checked in, no big deal, but super appreciated since the whole trip was scorching hot and we felt semi-dehydrated all the time. When I got home, I got an email that I was promoted to Diamond until 2023.
We're at WDW now. The parks are not that busy but lines are longer without Fastpasses. The heat is horrendous. I'll take 50 Chicago winters before I come to Florida in summer again. Bad decision on my part.
We did spend 3 nights at Hilton Tuscany Village and now at Swan. I'll,post pics and a mini review for those doing the timeshare presentation after we return home.
We've had some bad luck with rides too. We were on Expedition Everest on the first climb when it stopped, stuck in blazing sun for 10 minutes before it started running again. Today, on ROTR we were boarding group 64. Ride went down twice, we were finally called around 3 pm, got partway through before it went down again. They gave us a 'fastpass' for later but must be used today. When we came out of ROTR, it was raining. Ended up walking back to Swan in rain since boats weren't running. Yay
Hope you are having a great time! Looking forward to your Hilton review as I still have to book my stay in Orlando.
DDs tuition is technically due today and we still have not received financial aid notice. Very stressed about it. We did get notice that is taking longer and don't worry about due date, but I am wondering why on year 4 it is taking so long. Ughhh, DS's family contribution did go up which I thought it would since we have 2 kids instead of 3, but am worrying about hers since it is taking so long. Have seen others on the parent page mention theirs hadn't posted as of a few weeks ago but most said theirs finally showed up. I guess I procrastinated too long in getting a new CC for DS's tuition as it is due next week.
Waiting on the final bit of my son's financial aid as well. He gets tuition remission due to my job but if the aid doesn't come in, I will have to pay a balance and then have him pay it back to me

. I have to see if I can find a parent page - that sounds much more helpful than trying to get info out of my son.
