ok..... so this is interesting..... Marriott at 50% transfer from UR portal? anyone else see this as interesting?
.....aaaaannnddd the new Freedom offers out (via DoC).... how would I go about 'stacking the flex grocery offer with the q4 category offer on freedom?
Personally, i cannot imagine it being interesting
even with 50% bonus. But it is not hard to just look at the math. I have only used marriott (and formerly spg) for dolphin, back when it was a good value. this is only an example but illustrates my point- I am sure there are much better redemptions out there:
Using current dates for my upcoming stay, and redeeming enough points for 5 nights (to get the free night), would be 200,000 points +$196.88 in tax/fees. Total cost would be 133,333 UR (using 50% bonus) +$196.
Alternatively, if you purchased w/ prepay rate for the same stay at dolphin, the total is $1365.75 including taxes and fees. you could achieve this redemption by purchasing visa gift cards at a grocery store and then redeem ~93,000 UR to cover the cost using PYB.
option 1, transferring to mattiott : 133,333 UR +$196
option 2 using PYB: 93,000 UR (just a little trickier and not sure about prepaying with visa gc, but I would personally just redeem this amount towards necessities like groceries and gcs I would use for meals, gas, etc. and then pay the hotel out of pocket- this way earns points on the stay too!)
Option 3: My favorite, buy $2000 in disney gcs and erase the charge with PYB and then use these for disney resort/food/souvenirs/tickets. $2000 easily gets you 5 nights in a moderate and potentially close to some of the more accessible deluxe, maybe even yacht or wilderness lodge with the right discount around. same dates this would yield 5 nights coronado tower +~$400 spending money.
This is only an example of comparing these redemption options... It is very possible that your desired redemption hold much greater value than PYB yields. I just picked random resort and dates to illustrate the process I would use and it came out just as I expected.
