I love credit cards so much! v3.0 (see first page for add'l details)

After getting the "we need more time" message yesterday when I applied for the Chase Marriott card, I got a denial notice today. Decided to call and ask for recon and was approved! The CFF I got a few weeks ago was approved for $14K but I immediately reduced the limit to 5 so I was hoping they would be willing to give me at least a 5K limit on the Marriott and they did! That is the 2nd card they have approved in 3 weeks (although the recent new card was listed as part of the denial reasons). No plans for any new cards for a while now.

Although it's certainly nice to get an immediate approval, it's great for the rest of us to see what goes into the approval process when someone calls in. I remember reading that you had lowered your credit line and was a bit worried that they wouldn't give it back. Great that they did! My reasoning is if you 'have' the line it can be moved to another card, although a lot of people say 'lower your limits' to meet what Chase will actually extend.

That is a great point about the lowering limit/moving it that I should've mentioned. As a newbie, I had no idea that credit reallocation was a possibility. She mentioned that when I explained the situation about recently decreasing the new limit and she said she would see if there was any credit she could move around. It took quite a while and she came back and asked me some income, employment and expense verification question, but in the end it was approved so worth the wait. I've been reading along for a while now but clearly have a lot to learn. Thanks to everyone for being patient with my questions. :)

Thank you! This is our first time also. Where did you stay? Deciding between the Hyatt Centric Key West or Hawks Cay Resort (Hilton) in Key Largo.
Stayed four nights at Hyatt centric key west. Expensive. I think the 100k points are better used elsewhere like 4 nights at all inclusive in Cancun. Was a prefect resort. Small but right on water and walking to all of key west downtown.

Finished our NY week changes on SW and my DS, DD, future DIL and I all got back about 43K each! Awesome.
Also referred one son for a Hilton Amex which will be awesome for him as he is staying at a Hilton for the next several weeks for work. Should be a huge haul of Hilton points . I referred my other son for a CFF from my CF. I’ll have him refer me back for a CFF in a few weeks for which I’ll need to thaw my credit for the first time.

I'm thinking of getting the 140k IHG card from Chase for DH, but it would bring him to 4/24 until 8/21. He just got denied for a CIP for business structure last week. So it's either wait 30 days and try again, or use up his last personal spot for this. I thought about the Marriott 5 nights free as well, but with the one year expiration and our next three vacations already covered I think I'd rather have the flexibility of the points. I've never had an IHG card or really looked into it, but it looks like the 140k could get me quite a bit. I checked out a Holiday Inn for our layovers for our Thanksgiving trip and I can get 5 in a room for 12,500. It's only about a $100 room, but if that's the kind of redemptions I can get the 140k would be worth about $1100. It could also be a good option for baseball tournament stays.

Any thoughts? Think this is worth going to 4/24? I am also over 5/24 and I'd like to get CP Dec 2021/Jan 2022 so this would mean no personal cards for P1 or P2 for 10 months.

DH is 1/24, never had any Marriott/SPGcards. 5 nights at Swolphin too tempting. App'd just now and instant approval with 14k credit line, which I think is surprisingly high.
this is exactly my line of thought..... my only problem now is deciding before they pull this offer.... do they issue FNC AFTER you hit MSR only? So say I app'ed on 10/15 (I think offer ends then?) and waited till Dec 25 to finish MSR..... when would you calulate the issuance of a FNC? (I think i'm like many, not wanting to use them for a while yet) I have nothing else goig in the cc world right now, but I have some upcoming bills that will need paying regardless..... and I know where I want to use these....(I want to travel again, hopeful!)

So am update to my apps:
My CIC: still in no man's land. Applied Saturday at about 1030 pm and still nothing.
DH CIC: applied right after mine and got the "we need more time". Did not realize it got approved within minutes! The email went to my junk and I wasn't expecting it but it was within about an hour of the app. But what's wierd is that all week I have been calling the status line and there is no record of either application eventhough his is approved!

interesting hotel offers right now..... I think we could do IHG and Bonvoy between P1 and P2.... hmmmmm I'm looking for DP on holding the older $49 IHG still and getting bonus on this new offer...

I got the IHG card 3 years ago; right before the changed structure and AF increase. I have yet to use any of the points or the free night. The point and reward night I have found to be not bookable for any trips as of yet; and if you are booking for the whole family a room for five is pretty difficult. So if you are thinking you would want it for tournament stays I would just get on and see if those particular hotels have availability. So personally I don’t think it is worth a personal spot. But I am an Amex fan girl as of late and have been using personal slots for that...so I have that bias too.

If you are asking if you can have both cards and still get the bonus, everything I have read says you can. I haven't done this yet since timing hasn't worked out but I am planning to do this at some point. So no direct evidence but I do think it is doable to have both and get the bonus.

Can someone refresh my memory? If I hold a CIU from a previous PC can I apply for a new CIU and get the bonus? I’m guessing no but don’t know for sure. Otherwise I’m not sure I have a lot of options with chase biz cards. I think the only option for me is a CIC

Yes, you can hold a CIU and apply for a new CIU. If it makes you feel better though, you could PC the existing CIU to a CIC first.

My AF just posted on my CIP. A few months ago I downgraded my other CIP so this is the only one I currently have. I'm not sure if it's worth the AF for me, but new CIPs look hard to come by at present so I'm conflicted. Any thoughts?

Thanks for your thoughts. I know what you mean about five in a room using points. It's the thing that I've found most frustrating when trying to use hotel points. Can't book with points for 5 in a room, even when you can using cash or a third party booking system. Which is another reason I love URs so much. I've found that just about every program makes it difficult. So I was surprised when I could book five. Looks like when I search some cities that we may have tournaments in it's about 50/50 if you can book 5.

Yes you can hold both. Both my DH and I have the older “Select” card with $49 AF, and the Premier. We have 4 FNC between the both of us holding these cards.

Personally for us, we don’t stay at a lot of fancy hotels. We’ve been able to get great value out of the IHG points and free night certs. We frequent Orlando a lot for the parks, places like Chicago, Charleston, and other cities across America and have always found reward redemptions for around 20-25,000 which worked for us. Most recently used points in the Florida keys. In some smaller towns or even outskirts of bigger cities you can find hotels for 12,500-15,000. We’ve used cheaper nights at hotels by airports a lot when taking an early flight or getting into a city really late at night. We’ve held IHG cards since 2015 and keep them because the value is good for us. The AF always pays for itself with the Free Night.

Thank you SW, I now have all of my flights booked for Oct weekend in Charleston, Nov weekend in Orlando, Thanksgiving in Punta Cana, Christmas in Aruba and New Year’s in Phoenix and MLK in Puerto Rico. I’m going to be very sad when SW changes end.
What weekend in Charleston? We’ll be there Oct 23-24 :-) but we’re driving, only live 3 hours away. Make sure you go to the Charleston city market, one of my faves!

Thank you, no fancy hotels for us either. As long as there is a pool and it's clean, we're happy. We'll be out of our element at the Grand Wailea next year 🤣

That's awesome!! I can't believe you could go all the way to MLK. One of my CA flights I could only change to mid Dec. After that it was going to charge the difference.
