whattttt. Ok why have I been thinking all this time it's a lifetime 'no chase marriott' cards if I've held the amex version?Yep. That is where I am. Still keeping Sbg biz. It has been 24 months past my bonus. Immediate approval (back in June) for this the personal Chase Marriott. I stay in way more 35K/night places than 50K so it makes sense for me to keep the lower cards.
I did get credited 30 nights this year (15 biz and 15 Chase personal). 13 "bonus" nights that they gave out cause I am gold. Plus another 2 from a pre-covid stay. I am really thinking of doing another 5 to get to Platinum. Does anyone know how long status would last? Is it through a portion of 2022? or just for 2021?
It should last through Feb 2022.Does anyone know how long status would last? Is it through a portion of 2022? or just for 2021?
We actually stayed in Marathon using a bunch of IHG FN certs we had at a Holiday Inn. We loved the location because it was only an hour from key west, and honestly we did a lot of snorkeling and boating stuff off other islands that were only 15-20 minutes drive. Our hotel was right on the water (in the channel) and had a pool on the water side, tons of tropical plants/palms, and a tiki bar/grill next door that had live music every night on the water. So it was really more of a resort type feel to us. I would definitely return there.Thank you! This is our first time also. Where did you stay? Deciding between the Hyatt Centric Key West or Hawks Cay Resort (Hilton) in Key Largo.
I love these commentaries of yours! As much as I love the change, it will be nice to get back to the flight you book is what you'll get. Those changes the computers make are getting quite humorous. I had the perfect flights for our Thanksgiving Punta Cana trip on Tuesday. Thursday when I went to put my kids KTN in our return flight had changed from BWI-MKE on 11/29 to BWI to ATL on 11/30, stay in Atlanta until 12/2, then ATL-BNA-MKE. Just throw in a 2 day stop in AtlantaSome commentary on Southwest's schedule extension patterns in 2020 and how they've varied from prior years:
Southwest has always had a somewhat predictable pattern to their release schedule dating back to 2017 and even prior (I've only kept good records since 2017). For example:
Last year however, the typical late June release never happened. It was delayed until August and each release thereafter was delayed approximately 1 month. At the time we surmised that this was due to the ongoing 737 Max grounding but of course COVID then followed on its heels in March of 2020. Southwest completely skipped their late January release in early 2020 but yet they still had their Late-May holiday release.
- In both 2018 and 2019, they had 7 schedule extensions.
- Their big holiday release (covering Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Years) occurred right around the end of May
- The other extensions added 1-2 months of flight "inventory" each time as is normal.
The net result of all of this is that Southwest will only have FOUR (4) schedule extensions in the calendar year 2020 (Mar/May/Aug/Dec). For people that have suggested that it "feels" like we are waiting longer for Southwest to put out their schedule - that's because we are! Here's some analysis on the "days of inventory" that Southwest is making available:
This figure is calculated as the difference between a point it time (i.e. today) and the last date available for booking. For purposes of these calculations I'm assuming that the 12/10 schedule extension will remain on that date and be the last to occur in 2020.
Average Days Inventory Available:
Maximum/Minimum Days Inventory Available:
- 2018 = 217 days
- 2019 = 220 days
- 2020 = 189 days
- So on average, we are seeing approx. 1 month less in flights available to book on any given day
On December 9, 2020 we will see the smallest amount of Southwest Inventory available since as far back as my records go (close to 4 years) at 123 days. Barely 4 months worth of flights will be showing on the schedule at that time and even after that release we won't have 6 months of flights available (based on what they currently show). Only time will tell if Southwest will hold to this new tighter inventory control or not. Anecdotally, I believe Southwest used to operate this way and gradually over time they actually increased the amount of inventory they made available - so for people who flew SW a lot back in 2007-2010 for example, this might feel a lot like it did then. Many years ago it would've been crazy to see SW have 8+ months of inventory available.
- 2018 = 263 (max) / 157 (min)
- 2019 = 243 (max) / 144 (min)
- 2020 = 241 (max) / 123 (min)
The reason SW has operated this way historically was because they RARELY would adjust their schedule. Of course the 737-Max and COVID environment has completely thrown that out the window. I know we all want things to get back to normal on so many levels, but hopefully one of those "back to normal" things is Southwest getting their schedule process under control so that releases occur in a timely fashion and schedule changes once again become a rarity!
This offer is just begging me to use DH's Gold 25K support link and "stock up on groceries" for the rest of the year, but I know that's just asking for a clawback...but 7XMR!! It could be better than a SUB! I am so tempted!!Interesting new support offer on Amex cards. You would get the usual support bonus + 3x points for your spend on the supporting card for 3 months. I only see it on personal cards. Great deal if you have it on an elevated support bonus card and/or the Gold (7x grocery/restaurants!).
ETA: The usual warning to not self-support.

You can’t have both personal - AMEX and Chase or Both business. But you can have personal with one and business with the other. There is a waiting period for getting a bonus. The chart that was shared is helpful to understanding the combos and waiting periods.whattttt. Ok why have I been thinking all this time it's a lifetime 'no chase marriott' cards if I've held the amex version?
Hope you got resolved! That would be a horrible trip! I was looking at flights to Aruba and BWI is $165 but I could go FLL-BWI-AUA for $69. That’s ridiculous.I love these commentaries of yours! I feel for you. I spent time on the CC boards. Glad to be done with college for 3 very different kids. DS applied early decision because his school listed the qualifications for merit scholarships on the website so I could see what he would get based on ACT score and class rank. My youngest DD was an academic star but I believe admissions are based on a LOT more than stats alone. She had surprisingly good admissions results but had sports, excellent recommendations and people really seemed to like her essay.I do wonder how all the deferrals will impact this year's senior class. I think some schools had more than others. I understand how this years experience for freshman is not typical, but I also didn't think that the gap year would be typical either. It is usually for traveling or maybe even saving with a great job, neither of which are really possible either at the moment. I wonder if anyone that deferred is regretting that decision. I agree Early decision should be for a reach school, but I am not even sure there are any truly safety schools that offer ED. All the schools I have seen that even offer ED are pretty selective. I read far too much college confidential with my first one to even think anything was a safety school. lol It is pretty discouraging to see some people's stats that don't get into certain schools. My kids got mad at me when I said that I am pretty sure that admission counselors must use darts to pick the kids. lol There seemed to be little rhyme or reason when you read the accepted/declined stats.
Crazy! When we flew SW to Aruba we went from PIT to FLL, and spent the night there, continuing on the next day. Spent a night in Ft Lauderdale on the way home too.Hope you got resolved! Which resort did you stay at? I have the Hilton booked currently. i am thinking of adding 3 nights at the Hyatt. So we would have 8 nights in Aruba.Crazy! I used DH's 25K referral on his Gold to grab a 50K/$2K Green for myself yesterday. Then chatted to close my HH Biz just in time to not pay the $95 fee on that.
Last month, I referred him with my 30K MR link to his own 50K/$2K Green. So between the two of us we'll get 159K MRs (worth $1987.50 via Schwab) for $4K MSR and two $150 AFs. And now he has 7MR for groceries/dining (subject to the 25K cap) and 4MR everywhere else on his Gold til the end of the year. The timing just worked out great for this!
And if I'm feeling up for it I might try for a chase biz for him before his Green shows up. Living on the edge haha.
Yes, I got it taken care of today no problem. I also got an email for a different change yesterday for the same flight, but that one never showed in my account.Hope you got resolved! That would be a horrible trip! I was looking at flights to Aruba and BWI is $165 but I could go FLL-BWI-AUA for $69. That’s ridiculous.

Marriott Stellaris. We liked it, toward the quiet end of the beach. We went in October 2 years ago, I was surprised how breezy Aruba is.Which resort did you stay at? I have the Hilton booked currently. i am thinking of adding 3 nights at the Hyatt. So we would have 8 nights in Aruba.
Mixed DPs on Chase biz cards just keep coming. Heard of an instant denial due to biz structure yesterday on a CIC and then a DP was shared on r/churning today of a CIP that was auto-approved yesterday. There appears to be no rhyme or reason to what’s going on here. It is quite confusing!!
