I love credit cards so much! v3.0 (see first page for add'l details)

Something I wanted to look at - how many cards we had obtained from each issuer in our first 90 cards (yes I totally acknowledge how ridiculous that sounds lol):

42 - Chase
22 - Amex
11 - Citi
8 - BofA
4 - Barclays
2 - TD Bank
1 - Wells Fargo
(And I have 1 Discover card I opened when I was 18 that I don't count in the above numbers).

The results don't really surprise me... It's been an amazing ride so far - here's to many more great years of churning!!!

flights.png

I despise Covid. Then SW stringing me along, making me think they might actually not alter flights this time. These have got to be the worst I have seen, 2+ hour layovers. Thankfully dh agreed to the early flight so I can have a little time in MK and keep my Raglan Road ADR.

Canceled my companion, changed my flight. Now my account won't update so I can re-add my companion. :badpc: Work has been stressful the past 2 weeks, I thought I was headed to bed early tonight lol

ETA: online account shows flight they switched me to, my app shows the flight I just switch to. I can add companion in the app, but can't apply travel funds. I went ahead and canceled cp #2 and switched Dh's flight so as of now the kids are just staying home. Just kidding, I'll work them out tomorrow I guess, hopefully everything is working in the morning, when I expect I will see notice of my return flight being changed. I love my current return flight.

I'll be honest, when I booked January flights I didn't even pay attention to times. I booked the cheapest which happened to be non-stop and pretty good flight times.

Just an FYI: we might be back in "business" - but there are a ton of inconsistencies in the DPs. And lots of people are still being denied due to business structure. So just know - this is NOT a guarantee at this point that you will be approved, so if you're going to attempt it, you gotta be ok with a potential inquiry + denial.

Even in our own group here we have some denial DPs. Good luck to all who attempt!

Speaking of... Both DH and I are still pending in no man's land. Even the status line isn't helping us out: "no new applications found"😩

I recently PCd my CIP to a CIU. Now, I kind of want to try my luck at applying for the CIU for the bonus. Im assuming I need to cancel my CIU, how long should I wait before applying if I do?
I am on dischurners so happy to read responses over there if needed. Not sure where to post there.

That's awesome that you kept tracking for that long. I don't remember many of the older things I had before my Churning Tracker spreadsheet.

oh man, they are all over the place... DH applied on Monday, hope to hear back soon.

I'm not the pro at this, but you can't get the bonus once you have the card. So I think you're screwed on getting any CIU bonus. But I'm not an expert.

That's an amex thing. Chase doesn't care if you've had it but they will probably care that you hold it currently. The biz cards don't have 24 or 48 month language or there wouldn't have been a cippy cup and they didn't care that you had the card already.

However with covid I wouldn't apply for a card you already hold with chase even if it worked before, I imagine it'd be a denial as they'd see no reason for you to need another or it'd be a recon call to explain about another biz etc. I don't think keeping expenses separate would work at this point either. Maybe in a few more months.

A General update of "What's Going On in Churning":
There's been a lot going on in the world of churning lately - and I can guarantee you that this post couldn't possibly cover it all, but I felt like maybe a general update post was warranted.

American Express:
  • Amex Offers - keep an eye out as we head into the Christmas "shopping" season as this might bring about a flurry of new Amex offers. Also of note, if you see a card displaying "100 offers" that is the maximum you will be shown. You may actually have additional offers that you cannot see. To show more offers, simply go down the list and start adding things (even if you don't plan to use them) so that your list will show the rest of your offers. People will often come here to the thread to share exciting new Amex Offers, so keep your eye out for those posts!
  • Delta Cards - increased bonuses - DoC reported on this a couple of weeks ago but it seems these ones are not all-time high offers and you should likely pass.
  • Blue Cash Preferred - $300 Offer - There is an increased offer on the BCP card available via support link giving you a $300 Statement Credit after spending $3,000 within 6 months. This includes a WAIVED 1st year Annual Fee (which is somewhat rare on this card. Apply by 12/10/20 to take advantage of this. This card offers 6% back on groceries too so if you hit the full MSR in the grocery category you could actually get $480 back on $3k in purchases.
  • Amex Gold Card - Increased Bonus - The Amex Gold is also offering an ongoing increased bonus of 60k MRs for $4k spend in 6 months available via support link. YMMV but you could also find a 75k offer via incognito browser. DoC writes a little bit more about the various potential Amex Gold offers here.
  • Amex Green Card - Increased Bonus - The Amex Green is showing an increased offer via support link of 50k or 60k MRs after spending $2,000 in 6 months. DoC writes about this one here. This card also offers a $10 monthly cell phone credit through the end of the year but at this point in the year that's only worth $30 now.
  • Blue Business Card Offers have changed - Awhile back we saw the offers on the Blue Business Preferred (BBP) and Blue Business Cash cards change (and not for the better IMO). The offer is now earn up to $300 in Statement Credits ($100 each from Dell Technologies, DocuSign and FedEx.) For many, BBP was a great card to grab to keep those MRs active with no Annual Fee. We'll continue to monitor this one to see if the bonus goes back to something useful!
  • Hilton Cards - I'm not going to attempt to dissect what's going on with Hilton cards. The offers here are ever changing, so do you research if you're interested in one!
  • Business Cards - Amex is still approving business cards. Chase pulled back for awhile (more on that in a minute) but Amex never did. Used properly, Amex biz cards are a way to keep your earnings going while resetting your pacing with Chase and/or protecting your 5/24 status. Just keep in mind that the RAT is out there and you need to be a good customer to Amex to keep getting approvals and avoid that nasty popup message!
Chase:
  • We are back in "business" - Chase is once again approving Sole Proprietorship businesses. This appears to be YMMV though as we see DPs going both ways of approvals and denials without much rhyme or reason. Many people are leaning towards CIU or CIC as it appears anecdotally that approval changes are higher on these cards (but I don't think there's real data to support that). CIU/CIC offers also require a significantly lower MSR which is likely attracting people as well. Keep in mind that there are currently NO support links for Chase Biz cards so just go with the public offer you feel fits you best. As far as I can tell, everything that we knew about Chase biz cards 6 months ago still seems to hold and nothing has changed on that front (if you can get approved). A whole slew of DPs on approvals/denials can be found here amidst other unrelated comments.
  • Freedom Flex (CFF) & Freedom Unlimited (CFU) Offers still going strong - Just a month ago, all the buzz was about the new CFF and enhancements to the CFU which include 3% back on Drugstores as well as a Sign-up Bonus of $200 (20k URs) PLUS 5% back on up to $12k in grocery purchases in the first year available via support link. These are both solid offers and solid cards given the current state of affairs and warrant consideration. There's a lot of information on these cards on DoC which can be found here.
  • Chase Sapphire Preferred (CSP) 80,000 UR bonus - Back in mid-September, the bonus on the CSP card increased to 80k URs for $4k spend in 3 months. You can now use a SUPPORT LINK to apply! (updated 10/5/20). A whole thread was created on r/churning about this one although it's full of more stupid questions than insight. I have a comment in there that outlines some important things to keep in mind. This is a GREAT offer and one that warrants consideration. It is is rumored to be going away on 11/8. Also, if you are going for a CSP, you might want to consider whether a MDD is the right move for you, with more details on that here.
  • Chase Southwest Card 65,000 RR bonus is STILL alive - These offers which are available via support link say "apply by 9/21" but are STILL LIVE! The easiest way to a SW CP (companion pass) for 2021/2022 is to MDD these offers and wait until after your December statement closes to hit the MSR. Who knows how much longer these links will work, but as we now move into October tomorrow, we are in the heat of Companion Pass season! 10/5/20 update - these are now DEAD!
So there you have it - as best I can tell that's a good recap of what's going on. I'm sure I missed some things, so please respond and share if you think our group needs to hear about it! If you apply for a card using a support link, reminder that once you're approved, it's good form to PM the person and let them know you used their link (they get a chance to thank you and they can monitor if they've maxed out to remove their link to give others a chance).

If you aren't working on an MSR because you thought churning was "dead"... think again! Get back on the saddle and get yourself a new card!! Happy churning everybody!!

How did you manage all of those in 6 years? Seems like even with two people it wouldn't be possible?

Hi! My husband just got the Chase Sapphire Preferred and I just read what you posted about it above. I could not click on the link for "Is a MDD the right move for you." What is this? Anything we should know? He wanted me to sign up, but I have another card I guess that is preventing me from doing so. Thanks!

Hhhh still waiting. Applied Sunday I think? "There are no applications on file" still. Not feeling hopeful.

Also, I have been thinking I was getting hacked because I kept getting alerts to my email that there was a new login in Ashburn, Va on my Disney account (I'm in Wa). I went through the hassle of changing my password and still kept getting the email. Finally I had a light bulb moment--it's my stinking AwardWallet login! :sad2: Do you know how much time I spent changing passwords on a zillion smart TV's, tablets, phones, etc?!?!

P.S.S.: We booked 3 nights at SSR for our November trip (6-15, so we can cover Jersey week AND Veterans day :headache:....yeah did not check the calendar on that one). We were going to do another 6 nights at Reunion in a rental house with the thinking that if parks were crazy, unmanageable, packed, or miserable with all current changes we could at the very least stroll over to the water park and float on the lazy river and still have a nice trip. Rental houses cost a little more in Reunion but you get the WP access so it's worth it, right? I have been scouring the internet for an eternity looking at places and finally found one that said it had 'preferred partner WP access' so I booked last night--6 nights in a swanky little place for just over $2k. After I get the confirmation email it then specifies that you have to pay at the gate for WP access ($18 adults,$12 kids) PLUS a $25 registration fee per day to book your WP day that is non changeable or refundable, with a max of 1-2 WP visits. So if it's 70 degrees and raining we are committed regardless and would lose the $25 if we changed our mind. If we do go it's $151 for our party of 8...The pool heat is adds $238. So now we are up to $2400.

Now I am second guessing and thinking we should have gone for Windsor Hills-- being closer to the parks, saving $$ and not stressing about picking the 'right' WP day. Or maybe even Storey Lake. Not knowing what to expect at the parks is making me sooooooooo indecisive.

On average that's less than 8 cards per player per year. It is quite possible ;) (and honestly there are people out there that would probably put me to shame)...

If I call SW will they change a flight without having to cancel the CP? The flight we are on is sold old, I want to switch to a flight that only has 5 tickets left (we need all 5) but I'm afraid that something will go wrong and I lose the CP seat on the original sold out flight before I have time to move everyone to the new flight.

Ok...and to balance out that last comment, I probably should quote this comment from last year's thread...

Keep in mind, that rules matter, pacing matters! (There truly is such a thing as too fast... even though I kidded that there isn't)
From the ever-popular Fireside Chat with @SouthFayetteFan series comes a new edition:
A Comment on Chase and Pacing: Why 3 months??

So a lot of discussion recently about pacing with Chase and as you know, I'm obsessed with Chase pacing and velocity recommendations. I basically eat, sleep and breathe Chase pacing recommendations, lol!!

Some issuers have hard rules on pacing - Citi for example will flat out deny you for a 2nd biz card if you don't wait 90 days (typically recommended at 95 to provide a buffer). With regards to Chase there are 2 rules we know of:
  • The 2/30 rule which means that you cannot apply for more than two personal Chase credit cards measured over any 30 day period
  • And the 0/30 rule which means that you will get denied a Chase Biz card if you have been approved for any (personal or business) Chase cards in the last 30 days
So in a vacuum you could say...WOW I can go for a Chase Biz Card on day 1, a Chase personal card on day 2, wait 30 days and repeat this, right?? Wrong! You see, the scary thing about Chase is, if they decide that they don't like your application velocity they will SHUT. YOU. DOWN. And no, that doesn't mean they'll deny you. It means they will shut all of your cards down, give you 30 days to use your points, and cease doing business with you. To a churner under 5/24 this is basically a death sentence! People get shutdown for going too fast, things like 3 cards in 2 months, 5 cards in 4 months, 6 cards in a year, can all lead to a Chase Shutdown. Also, I would always count my months/days from APPROVAL date. That's the date that shows up on your credit report and the date that counts.

So how do you avoid this? You watch your pacing. I'll dig out an old comment for a bunch of pacing recommendations I made back in February:
  • Minimum 2 months between applications of 2 Chase Personal Cards (only exception would be a modified double dip which requires two cards in 2 days - and in that instance I would attempt to have a "quiet" credit report for the preceding 3-4 months)
  • minimum 3 months between applications of 2 Chase Biz Cards
  • minimum 2 months between applications of a Chase Biz Card (first) and a Chase Personal card (second)
  • Ideally a minimum 3 month "quiet" period before any Chase business application (2 months potentially ok though)
  • You also want to watch how many other issuer applications you're putting in and what inquiries that is putting out there. AMEX seems to sometimes not do a hard pull which is nice. EXAMPLE: You may want to exercise caution applying for a Chase card with inquiries from AMEX, Citi and Wells Fargo in the past 3 weeks...
  • Watch out for showing high balances on your credit report - consider paying down cards early (especially in the weeks preceding an application)
  • Keep in mind that Chase can see ALL personal cards you applied for. Don't go hog wild with 4 new cards from other issuers and then think they'll be perfectly fine to give you another card (we don't have anybody here that really appears to be doing that)
  • It still does not seem that TOTAL Chase cards plays any role in this, I have 7 open Chase cards and my wife has 10 and I don't have a lot of worry there.
  • I would continue to reduce Credit Limits and keep them at a reasonable level - it's harder to be a "huge credit risk" if I don't have large limits that I could rack up and "bust-out" on...
So again you might ask, why 3 months?? 3 Months ensures that you will never run afoul of the overall pacing recommendations over the course of a 6, 12, or 24 month span.

So there's no HARD rule about 3 months?? No, there is not. As I said before, the only rules are 1/30 and 2/30.

Is it ok to not wait 3 months?? On occasion...YES. But here's what you need to watch - if you find yourself constantly pushing the envelope, applying at day 75, day 70, day 65; eventually you will have gotten too many cards in too short a time:
  • Placing 90 days between cards means you will get no more than 4 chase cards in a 1 year span
  • Assuming perhaps that you do a MDD one time in the year for some reason then you'd have gotten 5 chase cards in a 1 year span, still ok.
  • If you condense that timeline to 75 days you'll find yourself getting 5 cards in a year (maybe 6 with a MDD mixed in).
  • If you condense that timeline to 60 days you may find yourself now exceeding 6 cards in a year...now you're entering the danger zone.
  • Even in short spurts this can be dangerous...if you do a MDD or even just do a personal card and a biz card a couple weeks apart and then come back with another card 60 days later and then another, you've now gotten 4 cards in 6 months. While you are raking in the points, is your future churning career earning opportunities worth the short term haul? I personally say no.
So that's where Citi Biz and Amex Biz cards can be your friend. If you find yourself without a MSR but not ready per the Chase pacing guidelines then mix in one of those cards or find something else to distract yourself. And if you find yourself at 75 days and deeply in need of a Chase card and you've followed ALL pacing guidelines up to this point, then you're probably safe to pull the trigger. Just don't let this become a habit. Maybe I should add one more bullet point above:
  • It's ok to break the Chase pacing guidlines once in awhile but avoid doing it on consecutive card applications and avoid doing it more than twice in a year. And always wait as long as possible.
So there are some more thoughts on pacing and velocity. I find this especially of interest right now with the SW Performance Biz bonus reportedly decreasing in just 5-6 days and also due to the exposure the SW CP is getting right now and people's interest in trying to get that 2nd SW cards in less than 3 months.

As always, you can PM me about your personal pacing situation at any time and I will give you my read on it! Good Luck to all and hopefully this information is helpful!

EDIT:
And because I generally don't trust people to be disciplined and do things in moderation, we've basically drawn a line in the sand of WAIT 3 MONTHS! This is probably especially helpful to newbies who really want to grab 6 cards in the first month because they want ALL. THE. POINTS. So I will continue to always say 3 months between Chase cards, because it is absolutely safe and easier to remember than the 20+ bullet points I've outlined throughout this post. But if you're capable of critical thinking and managing yourself in moderation then feel free to adjust your timing within your risk tolerance. :D

I have done that a few times over the phone and it went smoothly. Not sure how they did it on their end- if they had to cancel/rebook or just moved it- but it worked out fine. I had the same concerns as you do about losing the seat.

I'm looking for a new biz card since I'm at 5/24. Wish I had known Chase was going to begin loosening up on biz approvals before I went for that last personal card a few weeks ago. Now I'm looking for a non-Chase biz card to fill the gap till I drop to 4/24 in February. Currently I hold the Citi AA biz, Barclay AA biz, Amex BBP. None of the current amex business cards are too appealing to me right now so I was looking at Capital One. But I remember there being something different about them. Do they report business cards to your personal credit report? I know the inquiry would show up, but do they report it as a new account also which would look to Chase like 6/24? If so, any suggestions on biz cards that do cash back or some type of flexible rewards? Something besides airline or hotel specific?

From what I can recall, YES - Cap1 biz cards will show up on your personal credit report and will then make you 6/24. On the surface, it seems like you really need to revisit Amex biz cards because I'm not sure there's much else out there that fits what you're looking for. But truthfully, outside of Amex/Citi/Chase, I don't follow things too closely these days.
