DH has: CFU and a CSP. His CSP fee just posted and I was going to downgrade to a normal CF. I can’t try a product change to the new CFF right? My goal is just to get a no fee alternative, not looking to optimize ongoing spend.

I read somewhere yesterday that people were able to PC from a CSP to the CFF. The CF is going away so you may want to switch it.

I PCed a CSP to a CFF yesterday with no issues.

Grrr. I got the same message. I hope they fix this ASAP as I need to transfer URs to Singapore Air for a flight from Male to Singapore in May and there are only 2 seats left on points. Very frustrating, compounded by the fact that it takes 3 full days for the URs to show up in my Singapore Air / Kris Flyer account.

Working now! :)

thank you! For some reason I had it in my head that only CF types could turn into the new card.
There were some strange rumors circulating before the card was released. But basically this card and its product change rules ended up being no different than any of the other cards it seems. 😊

I'll need to go back to buying amazon gc. The 5% groceries is the one reason I'm considering the flex but with it being an MC I'm not sure my store will code as groceries. The citi MC I got didn't but with the chase visas it does. Don't want to waste a spot on a card I can't fully use, I have enough of those amex.
My Walmart Grocery delivery always codes grocery on the CSR. I would think pickup is the same. CFF is a Mastercard though, so it may code differently.

OK so... I don't have any Mastercards but there seems to potentially be an issue with them coding the same way Visas code?

And... I haven't been following the Chase Freedom Flex discussion too closely. I am trying to decide whether to apply for it.

Current stats: I am 1/24 with the most recent new card just having been opened 7/12/20 with Chase.

Current Chase Cards:
  • Chase Freedom (almost my oldest card, period)
  • A CIP (or 2)
  • A CIC
  • A CSP (that's the most recent one mentioned above)

Current Amex Cards:
  • BBP (my "keeper"/"in-betweener")
  • Hilton Biz (which I am getting ready to cancel in a couple days)

I don't really have any specific plans for the next application so considering this (^), would you recommend applying for the Flex around mid-October (so that I don't apply more often than once every three months), or no? Or is that too late? Do I need to apply by a certain date?

If you are looking at the grocery cat it all depends on where you grocery shop. If it's an actually grocery store you'll be fine. Fred meyer is like the original version of super target so not all code it as grocery. I'm guessing it'll be same on the flex as it is with citi. While I'd like the 20k sign up and the 5% on my groceries where I actually shop for a year, I don't want to waste a spot unless I see a do of it working for someone.

I’m also 1/24...and my last CC application was in December so applied for the CFF and was auto approved for a high CL...definitely reducing it to $10k

Yes, different CC networks can code things differently. As @afan said, it just depends if it's something that's not so clear cut (might be things like Walmart grocery, Instacart, or Shipt). If it's something clearly grocery like Safeway (do you have Safeway where you are?), then no worries.

This is exactly why I will be going PC route. I already have a Freedom and I PCd the CSR to a second Freedom. I hadn't seen Doc's post about the ability to PC directly to a CFF and was going by the FM blog post where Chase said it would only be possible from a Freedom. I will PC my old Freedom to a CFF. By late December I will be both under 5/24 and 48 months past earning a bonus on the CSR. So, I will be applying for a CSP. A CFF and 20k URs isn't worth the 5/24 or the hard pull for me. I'd rather go after 60K points with the CSP MSR.

This is essentially my plan, too. I'm a little worried about PCing the CSR and then not being approved for the CSP, but the 60K points are worth that worry (plus the devalued redemption of the UR points, but again the 60K points will make up for that, and 1.25 is not much less than 1.5--plus I don't have any definite plans for redeeming UR points for travel).

My Amex Plat AF is due to hit this week, so called to see what they would offer. Accepted 20k MRs - no spend requirement. Other offer was $200 credit after spending 3k.

I know some have rec'd 30k points, but I'm OK with the 20k - combined with the other credits (if I can use them all) - should effectively make this a $0 AF card for next 12 months.

We were there on a cruise stop that also went to Aruba and Bonaire. It was fine for a cruise stop, but I wouldn‘t bother hopping. How long are you gong to be in Aruba? We were on Aruba the first week of March at the Stellaris and the Renaissance. Loved it.

We were also there in January with both those same hotels. Was nice staying at both as they are both in different areas.

Would it be too late to downgrade the CSR to a CF or a CFF?

DH has our only CSR. I can reapply next year when my 48 months is up if I want to (March). We have no immediate plans for the extensive travel that I was saving up UR and MR for. I was thinking of one of us applying for it for the grocery bonus specifically. We spend a decent amount at grocery stores which also have a healthy supply of gift cards, so I am pretty sure having the extra bonus on Grocery (at real grocery stores) would be beneficial. So I could app for the CFF and CSP if needed. Or just downgrade?? AHHHH! This is why I took a break from this in 2020.

I have a CIP, 2 Freedoms, Amex Plat, and two Amex Business (and IHG and Disney). Last app was December of 2019 and way under 5/24 for both of us.

It's been a Monday. Finally having my house painted (it's been quite a saga). The painter knocked the power out to my fios box so ds (in virtual school) and I lost internet. Then my son pointed out my garage is covered in oil. I'm thinking when I got my oil changed last week they forgot to replace the cap because I've never leaked oil before. My ex came over to fix my internet and almost wiped out on the oil. It was sort of funny:)

Looking to expand from chase UR cards, and i'm planning a 2022 disney trip booked directly with disney as I already have $2500 in disney gift cards. Anyone have any input on best bonuses/programs to use on that package? I've never had any citi, amex, or discover cards. TIA

:dogdance: :dogdance: :dogdance: :dogdance: for some of you.

Hoping I pulled the link off the app correctly otherwise @SouthFayetteFan @Lain or someone more reddit Davy will have to do it.

Reports on r/churning of 80k sign up bonus on CSP. Do read the comments about getting the link to pull.

Eta I can't believe I scooped @SouthFayetteFan on this. I even waited for comments because I couldn't get it to pull but wasn't trying as much as them. Wish I was eligible.

Interesting; I did not know that. I did used to be an exclusively Target shopper but ever since they redid their stores I don't like it as much; plus it's farther away and my local grocery has better hours (for me, since I work nights) so I haven't been to Target much at all in the last year or so.

We do! I never go to Safeway but we do have them. I mostly shop at Bashas, which is a local chain, or, more rarely, Fry's (which is a Kroger brand).

Thank you!

As long as they are actual grocery stores you'll be fine. Fred's is a kroger too and I think that's part of why it codes as grocery for some but since it's more than just groceries I get why it doesn't with some. But I like being able to get my under armour workout pants on sale along with bread 😁.
