CSR-$450. Man, I really love this card. Hate the AF. I would definitely have downgraded if the AF was $550 but it was left at $450. If I decide to downgrade, I will need to hurry and spend the $300 travel credit. Not sure what to do with it at this point. with not travel in the near future. Is there a place to buy Disney gcs that would code as travel?

The travel credit on the CSR can be used for gas stations and grocery through the end of the year. You can also get 1.5 redemption on your points with the new Pay Yourself Back function for restaurants, grocery, and home improvement through 9/30/20. After that, they're keeping the function, but we don't know what the categories are yet.

Has anyone else transferred UR points to Hyatt and NOT had them show up immediately? I transferred some yesterday and they're not there yet. All the bloggers I can find talking about it say it's instantaneous.

It took several days when I transferred back in May-ish to book the Park Hyatt Kyoto, but they did turn up eventually. Maybe a week at the outside? I did get a confirmation email saying my request had been submitted.

I’m getting close to (hopefully) booking our Hawaii trip and am hoping for some advice from the experts! (@Lain , @CaliforniaGirl09, or anyone else with Hawaii knowledge!

I can book the AA departure flight in the next week or so, so I hoping to get some feedback on my rough plans/itinerary/point redemptions to make sure I’m not missing anything. DH and I have been to Oahu twice (I’ve been one other time when I was young also), my kiddos have never been.

There will be 4 of us going the end of July 2021 (DH, me, DS10, DD8). We’ll be flying from Wichita, KS (ICT) using AA miles (currently have 219k miles).

My plan is to fly from ICT to OGG on a Thurs in mid/late July (20k AA points one way/each person). So far there’s been good availability on points for these days in Aug that aren’t available yet). Stay at the Grand Wailea for 3 nights Thurs – Sat, ck out Sun (95k points x 2 nights + 1 FNC from Hilton Aspire, which I’m planning on referring my DH to soon). We’ll use part of $250 Aspire credit to pay for parking.

Fly from OGG to HNL on Sunday (still working that part out, options are 1. SW RR if flights are available, 2. paying cash (I saw flights on Hawaiian Air for $65/pp), or 3. applying for the Barclay Hawaiian Airlines biz card).

Stay 6 nights (Sun-Fri) at the Hilton Hawaiian Village (60k points x 5 nights + 1 night free (5th night free on points)). We’ll use the remaining Hilton Aspire resort credit for parking.

Check out Fri evening for evening flight back from HNL to ICT, arriving home Sat afternoon. I’m thinking if we have a late flight it would be worth the 60k HH points to reserve the room so that we can use it before the flight, even though we won’t actually stay the night there).

So, one of my questions is for the flight, would you rather book 1 stop, flying ICT to DFW (1 hr 15 min), DFW to OGG (8.5 hour) or ICT to DFW, DFW to LAX (3 hour flight), LAX to OGG (5.5 hour flight)? If it were just DH and me, I’d definitely say the DFW to OGG, but with the kids I’m wondering if it would be better to break up the long flight? We’ll be flight in the main cabin (like peasants 😊). One thing that does scare me about this is the possibility of losing luggage with so many plane changes.

Another questions I have is 3 days good/worth it in Maui? Is Maui/ Grand Wailea good for kids? I mostly want to go just to see a different island than just Oahu, and the GW gets such good reviews here I’d really like to try it.

Thank you for anyone whose taken the time to read my super-long post. I’m sure I’ll have lots more questions later, but for now I just wanted to make sure that I get the main flights right and that I have a good overall plan. Any advice feedback is appreciated! :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes
Sorry, I missed this a couple days ago. I'm getting caught up and saw that you've had some great advice. As PPs have said, in general, I think the less connections the better so I'd probably go for the DFW to OGG unless you switch around the order as Lain suggested. I'd suggest more days in Maui and a few less in Oahu, but not sure if that works with your budget. I do enjoy the Waikiki Beach area so I'm not a Never-Oahuer, but Maui is definitely my favorite and where we spend so much time. In a normal year, I'm in Maui 3-6 weeks a year. I actually stayed at the HHV the last time I was on Oahu (a couple years ago), and it was fun. Make sure to hit Duke's if only for the the t-shirt :)

My mom's place is at the Ho'olei, which is attached to the Grand Wailea, so I'm definitely biased, but I think it's one of the best resorts for kids. My kids LOVED it when they were that age. We stayed at the Four Seasons next door the first few times we took them, and they looked longingly at the GW pools/slides, etc. every time we walked by, LOL. I wasn't paying a ton of attention to the pools/kids facilities at the HHV, but I think the GW has quite a bit more. I'm assuming COVID restrictions will be over by then, but you might check into any changes for the kids facilities. We used both the Four Seasons and Grand Wailea kids clubs when our kids were younger, and both were great if that is something you might consider for an adult night out. And I would definitely try to get reservations at Mama's for lunch or dinner for the adult meal.

I'm about to have an unexpected $5k expense. I'm not sure if i want a new credit card right now, but if I did, is there any chance for a chase sole proprietorship "business?"

PC it to one of the freedom cards. You'll still get the bonus and you can keep your support link going for as long as it's still active even if you don't currently hold the CSP. No reason to cancel it.

That is exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks!

Yes, I have been trying to figure out how to do this today. Unfortunately, last month we used a bunch of UR for grocery charges so I am not sure how many qualifying purchases I will have on there. I guess I could do gc at a grocery store or gas station...

FYI: I’m not sure you have to wait 30 days after cancelling a card to apply for that same card family with Chase.

In the instance of SW - they have 3 personal cards so I’d cancel, wait a week then apply for a different version. You just need their system to register that you don’t currently hold a SW card

In the instance of Sapphire cards, I’d PC to a CF or CFU and wait a week and you’re good to go. I’d avoid cancelling in this scenario for numerous reasons.

Keep in mind that both of these comments I’ve made assume you’re managing credit limits appropriately and are eligible for those bonuses based on the other criteria out there.

EDIT: it’s possible you’re good to in as little as 3 days but I recommend a week to be safe.

I am transferrred some this week and they were there in about a minute of the transfer. All of my others were instantaneous too.

If I PC a CIP to a CF or CFU I get the SUB (I don't currently hold a CF)? This is tempting if it's the case!

I had 3 different AF hit this month. I need some help deciding what to keep and what to downgrade or cancel.

CSP - I would happily cancel this if I was keeping the CSR. However, I just referred DH to the CSP and am waiting on the referral bonus. But from the convo earlier this week, it sounds like I might be able to still get the bonus?

CIP - Definitely want to cancel this one, already have a CIC. Can I cancel via DM?
Ok - the recent quoted comment brought me back to this one... you do realize that the CSR travel credit currently applies to grocery purchases, right? Just buy a $300 gift card at your favorite grocery store (or $300 of groceries) and you’re all set.

I just went through all this with oldest DD. In TN, they have to have some form of ID, a statement from their school and an affidavit signed by their parents. We made the appointment and get to the DMV only to find out that the parents can‘t go in with them. I thought I might have to wait outside but that I would be able to help her check in. The clerk at the door asked if DD had any bills to prove residency. I asked what bills would a 15 year old have in her name? So I sent my just turned 15 year old into the DMV alone with her passport, school form, affadavit, SS card and birth certificate. I figured better to be over prepared. She did fine and proved that they are more capable than we think.

There is no drivers ed here unless you pay for private classes. At 16 if you pass the road test, you’re good. I wish they had drivers ed, now that I’m trying to teach her I realize how much I learned in drivers ed and how awful a teacher I am! I’ve been driving so long that I don’t think about how to do something so explaining it is not my strong suite!

I have a fun teen driver's license story! We recently moved to a new state. DD (16), DH and I went to get a new license in the new state. It took about a month to get an appointment. Brought all of our paperwork. DD not allowed to get a license because she also needs a driving log, certificate from school that she is a student, and her driver's ed certificate. None of which we had, because she already had a full license, real ID, from another state, without restrictions.

So, get all the paperwork in order, including the certificate from school. I realized after we got it that it expires in 30 days. So check with every DMV within an hour and a half drive for an appointment. Found one an hour and 15 mins away, 28 days later. So everything in order, went with all the proper paperwork. Waited in a long line outside (for the 2nd time), only to find that that she cannot get a license for our new state until she's had her current license for a year (which is next month). That was not mentioned the first time, only the paperwork needed. So, she'll keep driving another month or so (probably a lot longer, it takes a while to get an appt) on her out of state license. Will have to get another certificate from school. More driving logs (even though she's been driving for a year unsupervised). At this point, i'm fine with her waiting until 18 when none of this is required. But she cannot get a parking pass for school (if it ever opens) unless she has a NC license.

FWIW, I believe they can take driver's ed at 14 and 9 mos, and permit at 15. I have a 15 y.o. also and lucky for me, he has no interest in driving yet. My mental health can only take one teen driver! :rotfl:

Well, I did know about the groceries but hadn't made the leap to buying gc at the grocery store (not sure why, seems super obvious now) until people commented here. That is why I come here to ask the experts!

Ooohhh as someone considering the MDD with no idea what to do with points, I like this thought a lot! Do the URs ever expire? Or can I save them and build them up over time for a big trip?
Is MDD still possible these days? I feel like the whole CC landscape has shifted in the last 6 months! It was in my plan for this year for DH.

We have a recent successful MDD post on DISchurners and I recently did a little write up over there on the process. It is alive and well... if you have the right pacing leading up to it.

Just catching up after a fun weekend...

@brownhaired_girl - hope all is going ok. Sorry to hear about the recent issues with your mom.

@Haley R - thanks for sharing those amazing pics of that little guy! I hope you guys are enjoying your summer (somehow).

@Alexle2007 - enjoy the MK. Hopefully you have a great weather day since it sounds like you only have tomorrow :)

As for me... this week is bible school week coming up. We are actually holding an in person VBS. Perhaps that's the luck of having a super small church. We didn't advertise or invite friends so we'll have less than 12 kids in a church that can hold 150+ in the sanctuary and 70+ in the fellowship hall so we know we can pull it off safely. I gotta write all the skits and such since I've been procrastinating lol! Nothing like doing things at the last second to bring out my best work!!
So nice for the kids to be able to do VBS in person! My kids were able to do 2 weeks of a small farm camp this summer in person (they usually do 8 weeks of various camps, but most were canceled and we took PTO to cover the rest.) It was great for ALL of us that they were able to go! DH and I were able to actually work during the day (I've been working almost every night to get my work done since the pandemic began) and they really enjoyed NOT BEING ST HOME! LOL
