The link WVMomof3 (below) helped me find it, and seems like an easier way to find the latest news (from all the threads). Then if you see something of interest, you can click to go to that thread.

I think this is the same link that WVMomof3 posted, but just in case, I'll post it again.

Once on this page, you pick whatever you haven't yet read to read.

If you are pretty much up to date with reading, look on the right side of the page. There are two links - one to all members and another to get you to all the newest comments.

To easily see what you have already read, upvote it. You can also down vote but I haven't found anything I felt I wanted to down vote yet. This is the 2 arrows on the left of each comment.

If you stay with the links 'inside' Dischurners you really don't have to venture into regular Reddit unless you choose to.

If you get lost on any Reddit page, look to the top and it will have a list of 'my subreddits'. That's where you will find your way back home to Dischurners.

You can reply to someone by hitting 'reply' at the bottom of their post.

If you want to start your own comment string, Give it a name and post in the already open box.

This thread was started on Dischurners because it got very easy very fast to get a thread closed on Disboards, however unintentional the comment might have been. It was started as an attempt to keep comment on this thread on the topic of credit cards. We've been fortunate here for a long time, but there is a limit as to what can be discussed, which is why Dischurners was created to begin with. I hope this helps and I'm by no means an expert at this, but I have learned to find most of what is important to me.

Congratulations on the adoption :lovestruc My baby sister joined our family when she was 5 months and I was 10 years old.

My parents used to take Amtrak trips cross-country and up-and-down the west coast. They would get the room with the tiny bathroom. We used to call those their cruises  My mom had to stop flying in her 60s because of an ear issue. I'm glad they had an option to their driving trips!

I store my Costco yeast in a mason jar in the fridge, and it stays perfectly good until I finish it all, sometimes 2 years after the expiration date.

Oh good to know! :thanks:

I learned how to sourdough from my dad who kept his going for decades (I wish I had taken some of his starter before he stopped when my mom was sick). My tips are:
  • I feed 1:1 flour to water, 4 oz by weight of each.
  • I feed once a day if on the counter, once a week if in the fridge. I usually keep it in the fridge.
  • I just stir the separated liquid right back into the starter. It's no big deal.
  • My starter doesn't rise a ton. I look for the presence of lots of bitty bubbles to know that it's working.
Between yourself and @hsmamato2 and @punkin I'm getting interested in doing some starter. Not myself - going to get DD to do it - she loves cooking more than I do at this point in life, but I'm inspired to inspire her. She's got bread going right now from regular yeast so it's just a short hop to doing her own sourdough starter.

Yesterday she made yeast rolls and there were only a dozen in the whole recipe. We've eaten all of them. And, they weren't that great - small and dense. But practice makes perfect and bread products require a bit more patience than was exercised.

(I managed to keep my mouth shut during the process with hopes of insuring great products going forward, where all I have to do is eat and enjoy!)

So I made injera today. It came out absolutely awful! However, I think I have a good idea of what I did wrong and I will try again next week. I am determined to make injera with doro wat!

I called Delta Vacation to change my flight since they are offering one free change on flights. I added a day to our Utah trip returning July 5th, which means I added a day to our rental car too. I will be getting a Delta Vacation voucher for $1199 for adding a day.

The closer we get to the travel date the less likely I think it's going to happen, I did buy travel insurance so I still have the option of cancelling the entire trip.

When I save that page to my bookmarks on my phone it just takes me back to the new Reddit page every time. I wonder if it works different on the computer

ETA: I saved it on my computer and it worked :confused3

Do you think it's important to pay DD's CIP account using her own bank account? Would it be bad to pay it from an account in DH's name instead? We can transfer the funds but it's a pain.

I'm having a hard time getting mine to rise, but I started it on my own and I really don't know what I'm doing. It looks so easy in the youtube videos.

Sounds like you know what you're doing. We have 2 here, one made with KA Bread Flour and one a mix of that and some local flour blend. We can't seem to get them to rise/double. They both bubble, but otherwise it's just sitting there. I have read so many conflicting things online that my head is spinning and then today, while trying to keep "The Child" warm in our cold house, I think I put it too close to the oven and now I'm worried that that one is not going to make it. :(
King Arthur Flour has a whole booklet on sourdough. I’ve been trying to follow theirs.

Thank you. I now have this bookmarked ❤️

Love that you added a day and saved $1199. I was just trying to figure out ways to spend all our Delta/Delta Vacations credits yesterday. I need to call them and ask if I book a flight for later that we can't take how that will be processed with a credit. The good news is that all 4 of us can fly to Burbank over Christmas for about the price of 2 during this past Spring Break.

Your phone will always revert to the mobile versions of websites. You should be able to change it to the desktop site in your browser menu but it's generally harder to read that way.

I'm very impressed! But if life gives you teff, make injera! I'm messing with sourdough too - but mostly I'm still cheating and adding a little bit of commercial yeast too - don't know if I have sufficient faith in my starter yet, although it is giving me a nice flavor addition to my breads. Planning to make sourdough biscuits sometime next week. DH just came back from Costco with a 25# bag of KAF - my second since everything shut down in mid-march!

No, I think they are different somehow. Don't understand my way around reddit enough to know for sure, though. They look different. WVMonof3's has text of what was written, not just the titles. https://old.reddit.com/r/DISchurners/comments/

And, I hope I didn't down vote people. One time I was playing with those arrows, trying to figure out what they did. If I down voted someone, I'm sorry! :worried:

All the talk of starter on this thread got me into it -- I started mine yesterday. I 'fed' it a little while ago. On an unplanned trip to Publix today I was able to get a bag of flour, so I won't have to worry about running out. Dd and I are excited to try fresh bread next week -- I have tempered her expectations and told her that it doesn't start to taste really good for a few weeks! I am using white flour.

When I was a child my mom had a starter that used to get passed around between the ladies at the church. It was called 'friendship bread'. I remember we LOVED it. My mom would add dried fruits and cinnamon; I remember it came in a large tin can and we couldn't wait until our turn came around again!

I’m jealous that Costco by you has KAF. I can only buy 5# bags and usually only at Target
