Update on my BA cancellation. I had been told that my flight would be cancelled on Saturday and the money I had used to pay for seat selection would be completed by a supervisor. This morning I got an e-mail from BA advising me to call them regarding this flight :scared: :headache:. I tried a few times and I can't even get through on their number. I checked online and there is no record of my booking. What a mess. All created when BA changed the leg of the flight from Doha to London. When they changed that leg, they didn't notice that with the new flight I would miss my connecting plane to Miami. They manually made a change to the earlier Doha to London flight. Apparently whatever they did really messed with my reservation -- it was showing up in their system as "commercial" and neither of the agents I spoke with on Saturday was able to cancel it. I am not looking forward to another long time on hold to try to fix this....again.

I put an $1100 charge on my Barclay Arrival Plus for my WDW trip in mid-April and then used points to erase it.
When the inevitable happens and I have to cancel that trip, do I just get an $1100 credit on the card?

My husband thinks we should pull some unspecified amount of money out of our credit union to have cash on hand

Is there really a chance that places will suddenly stop accepting credit cards? Is that even reasonable?

IMO you should always keep cash on hand. I have since 9/11.
Forgive my ignorance. I was an adult during 9/11 but not a very smart one
Did something happen and stores stopped accepting credit and debit cards? I don’t recall but that doesn’t mean anything necessarily.

My May DVC trip, I just realized my banking deadline is this month. Reservation is May 1-4. With Disney doing refunds for resort stays through June 30, I'm leaning toward canceling this and banking those points. If they decide to do the 8 weeks that is now recommended that would put them opening around mid-May. Assuming all is semi-back to normal, I have limited availability in June and a trip booked in July. Once banked, I can't use them for a booking that begins before my use year (Aug), correct? I could just use them in Sept instead of Shades of Green, or a spring trip once I determine the actual expiration of our APs.

Honestly, what would you do? I realize I have 2 weeks to decide.

I would cancel and bank the points. But this is coming from someone who cancelled a trip the day before Disney announced their closure.

Always good to have cash on hand. Not about companies not accepting credit cards, but more if you have to buy fruit or veggies from roadside vendors or a neighbor offers to sell you some food or tp. I always keep a decent amount of cash in one of the safes. You may not need it, but better safe than sorry.

Nope. You just realize you never know what's going to happen and cash is always king.

Thank you. I rarely have cash... but I have a bit on me lately since one of my trip roommates paid me in cash when we got there. I was going to deposit it but I guess I'll just hang onto it now!

If it makes him feel better why not? We all have our security blankets. (I obvs wouldn’t use that phrase LOL).

The CC system and internet banking didn’t go down at 9/11 or in the financial crisis. Might you need cash because someone’s cc processing system chocked for a day or a local restaurant can’t process cc on delivery orders? Sure. But a mass no internet financial transactions end of times situation? No. Come away from that ledge lol. If you see DH staring at that ledge and some cash on hand makes him feel like he has some control over an uncontrollable situation maybe let him get some cash just to feel better. Some people took all their cash and put it into toilet paper over the last couple weeks in order to feel better so at least you aren’t looking at a room stuffed with toilet paper :)

Thank you for a dose of reason and a laugh!

I think the uncertainty is starting to get to both of us, TBH. Not panicking but I can't stop thinking about it. Ugh.

Because we changed our flight home last minute, we have sucky boarding for SW. Does anyone know I can upgrade to the priority boarding at the check-in counter since we have luggage to check or only at the gate?

I think you can buy it at the counter when you check your bags. I've done it there before at MDW.

I did it at the counter in Tampa in January.

How many people really think the kids will be going back to school? I am 90% sure DS will be completing 8th grade virtually. His last day is 6/3. Luckily, he has that option at his private school. Our county students don’t since there is barely enough laptops for a grade and certainly not enough for everyone plus the lack of internet service that some students may have.

I straight up panicked the other night so don't feel bad. When I lost my WDW trip scheduled for this week it just really hit me. This is real, it's not going away, gotta hunker down. This time last week I was buying sanitizer wipes for the plane and now I'm going "do I really need to leave the house today? tomorrow? this week? is it ok to pet the neighbor's cat when I take the trash out?!!" :rotfl2: ...the ledge and I are old friends ;)
