Our DD20 is at Uni in the UK, too (Durham). We were just with her on Thursday in London. She went back to school and we flew home. We thought we'd see her at the end of the month when she came home for a few weeks of her Spring Break. Instead she woke us up yesterday to say that Durham was telling students to go home and take/pack up their things as they aren't sure whether they will be coming back! I quickly got her a flight on Monday so she could finish a paper and pack her stuff up. Such a bummer. She's graduating in July and I have no idea how everything is going to work aside from the fact that she could end up missing her last term. She only has her dissertation and a couple papers left so hopefully it doesn't derail graduation or her offer to Oxford for her masters! What is your son's Uni telling him? We were very surprised at how quickly everything changed. When I first talked to her about COVID a couple weeks ago she told me everyone in the news was overreacting. Typical 20 year old reaction. Her attitude didn't last long. She very much gets it now.

My dd's good friend is boarding at Seven Oaks in the UK. One of his housemates was diagnosed yesterday and the school (as of last night) was going to stay open :scared:. She said he's convinced he's going to get it since it's one of his best friends that was diagnosed and they did pretty much everything together. It's sad because his parents (my friends) live in Switzerland, so I don't know how difficult it would be for them to get there and look after him if he were to get sick.

My .02 : Leaving out politics, I just don't think those making an hourly wage or working off tips or in similar fields, are going to stay cooped up at home and not earn money. Companies paying people that aren't able to work from home will eventually stop. I'm focusing on the economic piece of it and people will basically be thinking, "I'm not dead yet," and if no one else around me has, I'm going back to living my life.
Whether that's 2 weeks or 2 months until we reach that point, I don't know.

I'll be real political and just say it: we need more testing in this country and we needed them weeks ago. The response has been slow and inefficient and confusing. I've been watching this story since the first of January out of China. I knew it was coming. How did the CDC and the WH not know?

I'll argue with you - just to say that this shouldn't be even considered political at all. :) It's science. Totally agree with you on all of this. One infectious disease doc I saw being interviewed said we are "flying blind" without the testing and I suspect this is why they don't know what to stop/close/keep open. It's a mess. :(

anyway, I got everything I need plus a few things I didn’t like brownie mix, chocolate muffins at Costco and stuff to make chocolate chip cookies. I think I’m risk of gaining the Coronavirus 15 lol.
I was just thinking along similar lines. I go to fitness classes run by a personal trainer in a large gymnastics studio. There's usually only 8-10 people at a time, and I was hoping it would continue, but I know the studio cancelled all its gymnastics classes so I suspect we will be also cancelled. DD just sent me a link to a 30 day fitness challenge app, since she is stuck working from home also.

Will you guys still go then either way? Isn't your DD down there?
I’m not sure what we’re doing. My mom and stepdad are flying from Texas to Colorado to stay with our other kids and they are 67 and 68yo. Feels irresponsible to have them fly out but I told my mom we may cancel and she said they’re still coming.
My dd is there now on her DCP. Rumors are flying today that they are terming the kids. Not sure if that is only the kids who were in parks (like my dd) or all the kids. My dd is so sad. She worked so hard to get into this program.

Eh... Agree to disagree.
I think this is a situation they are damed if they do xyz and damed if they don’t do xyz. .....Whatever they do some people are going to say it’s not enough, while others think it’s an over reaction
Here on LI we have school closures.....some agree...others don’t ...in my neighborhood if they thought the kids would stay home, they were sadly mistaken...they are still together walking around, going to stores etc..

the NYC school system has not closed...even though some think they should due to the students taking the subway, buses etc..while others feel it’s fine...so :confused3

I'm a chronic over-planner, so in the event that we have to reschedule our memorial weekend wdw trip, what's a good time of year to go? hurricane season? it would have to be before november since DH starts basketball in november.

We spent at week at Universal last September and just barely managed to thread the needle between a hurricane hitting Florida (Dorian) and a tropical storm hitting our hometown (Imelda). It was extremely stressful watching Dorian develop before our trip and then when Imelda hit and we were at home all I could think was "dang, I'm glad we are here to prep and not stressing out on our vacation that we'll be coming back to a flooded house". Crowds were GREAT, we barely waited in line for anything, but it was pretty hot and humid, and I say that as a native Houstonian. I don't think I would do Orlando in September again unless it was a quick weekend trip. I definitely don't think I'd do WDW that time of year since the resort is so big that and it takes so long to get back to your hotel for a midday break to escape the heat. October is supposed to be better weather but then you have higher crowds. So I guess it depends what you are willing to put up with for your trip - lower crowds and terrible weather (June-September), or better weather but worse crowds (October)?

Such a difficult decision for you and your poor dd ... :grouphug: sending

Heart breaks for her.. Does terming mean they're done? Like go home?

Running out out of Toilet paper? Here's your solution! :scared1::rotfl2::sad2:
ETA Sorry about the language therein.... I just browsed the topic title without realizing the language.... it was about the 'family cloth' idea that is popular in some circles.....

Aw, I don’t blame you at all for the offensive language! Just odd that that this “writer” felt the need to speak that way to write what otherwise would’ve been a perfectly funny read.

@SouthFayetteFan - Can I ask when your Chase SW statement closed and when the points appeared in your RR account? My new SW biz Premier stmt closed 3/11, it shows the SUB on my stmt, but so far nothing in my RR account. I even called a few days ago to verify that I had the correct RR# connected to my account since it didn't have my number listed on my card. It seems like my points should have been there by now (along with my CP!). Thanks!

My comment last night has these details in it. 😊 Let me know if you can’t find it. It’s the one with the “thank you all” gif in it.

EDIT: here you go:

Ladies and Gentlemen, It's now OFFICIAL... I have reclaimed the elusive Companion Pass... We can all rest easy again!

The support you've all shown me during this trying time that I went without a companion pass (the past 2 1/2 months) has been tremendous!

EDIT: Very strange how my statements closed and points posted here. My first card closed on Friday evening and points posted Saturday before lunch. My second card closed on Wednesday evening and points posted yesterday I believe. These cards of course were on back to back days...and the due dates are only 3 days apart. Lots of strangeness, no clear pattern there...but all that matters is I have my points!

Here in Houston, starting on Thursday everyone was posting about picked-over shelves at HEB, Costco, Trader Joe's, and Kroger from everyone deciding to go and do their grocery shopping all on the same day. I was thinking "gee, it's a great day to be a Randall's shopper!" For those not in the know about Houston's grocery store wars, Randall's is a local chain that got bought out by Safeway a few years back and has a reputation for being too small, not having enough selection, and being overpriced. My mom goes there anyway because it's right around the corner from her house. Her friend called her yesterday complaining that she couldn't find cold cuts at their local Whole Foods. Randall's - fully stocked. "Oh, but we don't shop THERE!" said my mom's friend :rotfl2:

Church is still on for us tomorrow - with only about 100 - 120 people on a given Sunday in a sanctuary built for 1000 people, we can spread out pretty far from each other. No communion though, and I'm hoping we will not have our elderly deacons passing out bulletins and the collection plate. We've also sent out a bunch of announcements about social distancing, requested people stay home if ill, and canceled a few big group activities. My DH manages the general email inbox for the church and someone sent in an anonymous message asking that we cancel all services :(

@striker1064 I'm so sorry you are dealing with ridiculous decision-making from your leadership. Please stay home and rest up - you can be sick without a fever! Take care of yourself ❤

Can I ask what happens to a negative balance on a credit card statement? Do I just need to put spend on that same card, or can I somehow transfer that negative balance to cover another card? So far, Disney on Ice is the only thing canceled that I've paid for, but it was on my CIP 6 months ago, which I've sock drawered for the most part...

Eventually they are obligated to send you a check. You can also request one, you can also request them to transfer the credit balance to another card. Typically I would just spend the money to offset the negative balance though - especially if that spend was originally part of an MSR. It just feels like the right thing to do for me.
