Watching the news.I haven't read anything about any hospitals in the US being overwhelmed with Corona Virus patients or running out of supplies, shortage of ventilators, or healthcare workers getting sick. None of this is happening, but the pundits just go on and on and on about the "what ifs". They are the reason for the panic. When the have Doctors on that are optimistic, they interrogate them and pressure them to be negative. I really hate the media. It's not one channel it's all of them.

So, I was able to save a bunch more points on SW flights through Memorial Day. Such a weird feeling though. First, I feel a little guilty knowing the airlines etc will be suffering so badly. Then, I really wonder what the country will be like in 3 weeks. Here’s hoping social distancing works.
I sure wish Delta would make exceptions and refund lower miles during this crazy time. All my flights are so much cheaper now 😞

There is no TP in our community! Target sees their shelves cleared by 7:10 everyday. We went to several different stores today and not a single one had any. My dd was on Guest Services at Target and she said that in the first two hours of work, every single phone call was people asking if they had TP. She asked me if severe diarrhea was a symptom of Coronavirus :rotfl2:

A firefighter's daughter posted on our community board that the firehouse is down to 3 rolls left and they've not been able to find any in the stores. People posted offering to take some to them but this is ridiculous. As a community, we should all be looking out for our fellow man and not hoarding like we are the only people who matter. If this is how we react in a 'crises', God help us all.
People are going to start stealing toilet paper from public bathrooms. After this, I'm going to hoard and supply my neighbors when the nest crisis happens. I was thinking I could start selling coffee at Costco when people line up at 6 am. This national toilet paper panic attack has given me a lot of business ideas.

I think they've already started stealing from the public restrooms here. I'm fine with hoarding and then sharing but when so many of us cannot even find what our family needs for today, this is just so sad. I had to run up to my kid's homeschool co-op school this morning and there was a mom there bragging she has TP to last like a year and meanwhile she was so mad that she cannot find baby carrots anywhere :scared: Thinking maybe she should have been thinking about more than TP for the last couple of weeks!

I don't watch any news. For a reason. You are 1000% correct. The media is responsible for this mess we are in.

I’ll see if Dh feels up to it. We just mainly need the bread. I wonder if I could call the store and ask when they expect a shipment.
Our stores have no bread either. I did see Safeway today had english muffins and tortillas. Not sandwich bread but works in a pinch. They also still had french bread. So maybe see what other breads are available...? You may have already explored all that.

My son hates reading, so a month or more of telling him to read will be awful. It’s possible they may miss the whole 4th quarter of school, so I want him to do something constructive. When I’m not home, I know he will watch TV and play games. No way he’s going to do schoolwork without supervision, although a math game might be acceptable. I will check out Dragon Box, is it appropriate for a 5th grader?

Definitely good for a fifth grader. If I remember right there’s two levels. The lower one is more basic math and the other one teaches algebra concepts but it’s in a way that is more for visual type learners. I enjoyed playing it myself. Lol

I'm happy to make curriculum suggestions. I'm not sure if you are just looking for something in the short-term (sounds like it...?). In that case, I would not recommend investing in any bigger curricula. There are plenty of free online resources (brainpop and Discovery kids are free for a few weeks) or grade level workbooks you can order from Amazon.

Is your district not moving to online schooling?

Our state is leaving it up to the districts to decide what will work for their students. Not all have access to the internet at home and our library system has closed.

Costco had toilet paper - 1 per customer. Charmin. We were all asking for the Kirkland stuff.
Too funny! All my Costco had was Kirkland and I wanted Charmin. They were allowing two packages per person on Monday.
I live in the boonies, so I always stock pile it. But of course it was running a bit lower than I like.
I live in the boonies too and usually have plenty but somehow I was a little negligent lately and was starting to get worried.

I really think we are in the very early stages. All of the closures are to slow the peak/spread The numbers appear low, in part, because not much testing is happening. We can only hope and pray that our healthcare system does not get overwhelmed.

Dh went to Walmart by himself. They’re completely out of all bread, almost all shredded cheese, all brats are gone, no frozen vegetables. These are things we need regularly so I’m not sure what we’re gonna do. This is getting a little ridiculous. All there is left to buy is junk food
Look online and find some recipes for bread. Most of it takes flour and yeast and salt. Maybe a few other ingredients if you get fancy. It’s pretty easy. Kingarthurflour.com has great recipes.

once hospitals here are overwhelmed it will be too late. Have you been following Italy at all? Doctors having to decide who they can treat (younger people) and who they should leave to die because the cases exploded quickly and there are not enough resources to treat everyone. That type of issue is what they are trying to prevent here. It does seem a bit extreme now, and may not get that bad, but it is a possibility.

We got tortillas and bagels. We went to 7-11 for pop and a slushie and bought a loaf of bread there!
