As I figured 2nd DDs school called for online classes. Still trying to figure out if they are allowed back in dorms to get some of their belongings or if we need to change flights from where she is right now for Spring Break. I feel like this is worse than other situations since we can't even make plans at this minute because I am not sure what to do. The school sent out a message that if the kids told them what they needed and where exactly in their room it is they will send it home to them. I am not even sure how the logistics of that would work. Sounds like a nightmare. I would not even want to go in there and find something in my own kids room, can you imagine someone else trying to find something in thousands of room??? Oy Not to mention that I am sure there is stuff in some of their rooms they do not want their rectors seeing. Just a wild guess there.
That seems totally crazy!!

That is a promotion direct from Universal. On the Uni website it says purchase by August 13, use by Dec 18 - BUT some of the promo ones are base tickets, not park to park, so be careful what you buy if you want to ride Hogwarts express. Undercover Tourist has both promos (base and PtoP) for $253 and $292 for comparison.
The ticket promo is also available on the Chase portal (or it was Saturday when I was looking into a Universal trip)

We are still waiting on information from middle DDs university. They were supposed to send information this morning and we still haven't heard anything. This is DD's spring break week and she is visiting another friend at her campus in Nashville. I haven't talked to her and I don't even know what she knows about what's going on. As a rule, we are not a panic-y family, so I wouldn't be surprised if she hasn't even thought about it since nothing as come out from her school. Hopefully sometime today we'll get to find out what they are planning.

The university I work for has told the kids that classes will resume on Monday (they are on Spring Break now) so they are going against the trend. Let’s see. It’s a big university with a large international population. We have a “test” work from home day coming up to see how it goes. I understand how work from home will keep transmissions from happening at work but if people are home, they will go to target, out to lunch, pick up their kids. They shouldn’t, but they will. Such a complicated decision.

Are you sure the university is closing? Online classes don't necessarily mean that the kids have to move out. Some universities are moving to online class but keeping the dorms, etc. open while others are more or less completely shutting down.

We have a pretty quiet Costco. I've shopped out in Fairfax Virginia and barely could park, had to wait to get in and out of the parking, had to wait to get a cart, had to wait to get checked out and did not enjoy myself. Experienced that in the DC location, and several other Maryland locations. Love my Costco!

yeah, can also report my local costco is also quiet. There is a noticed on the door that says no bottled water, no toilet paper and etc on the door though.
for a second there, i thought i was at sams club.

That is what I think about closing these universities. These kids are not going to stay home. They are going to be all over the place. I think if they left them at school they would stay there. Though I see that it is a very complicated decision. My girls had different spring breaks one this week, one next week and now that they will both be "home" they are already saying where can we go? lol I am just as bad, checking these flights that are dropping and thinking cheap vacation time! This is not going to be helpful if everyone just keeps traveling. While I don't think Shelter In Place is necessary yet, I do think we as Americans need to rethink our priorities.

As spring break concludes, students are strongly encouraged to stay or return home rather than return to campus. Beginning at noon on Tuesday, March 17, the undergraduate residence halls will be open only to students who receive approval to remain on campus.
So the debate is does this mean they can go get their stuff and just be out by Tuesday? Others are saying no, the rectors will not let them in if they haven't been there all week. Not sure anyone knows at this point.

That is pretty unclear. I would read it as saying that anyone is allowed in the dorms until the 17th but who knows how the college bureaucrats would read it.

I wonder if schools going to online classes but leaving dorms open mean there will be no refund of room and board. Our son’s school is just two hours away, so in the event (looking likely as now the big universities in our state are going to online classes) that his cancels in person classes, I’d rather have him home. But I’d also like the roughly $3K I paid for this quarter for room and board to come back to my account, or at least a credit for next year.

Guys just when I thought our Spring Break vacation couldn’t get any better, I was wrong! My Grand Suite 1 Bedroom upgrade on the Harmony came through! We’ll be sporting concierge level for DS’s birthday. I am beyond excited and will have a hard time but I am making it a surprise for DH and DS. At least if we are quarantined it will be in style!l

Also, I developed a cold on our vacation. I’ve not had a fever with it at all, but do have a nasty cough. I’ve been limiting my time out in public, but I do feel like a pariah when I cough and others are around. I want to wear a sign “No fever”.

While I agree that some of the measures taken in Taiwan and Vietnam might not work here some would have. The media campaign and PSAs regarding hand washing including a catchy song that inspired a dance challenge and Tik Tok videos was a huge factor in Vietnam and Taiwan. Consistent messaging on protocols and information to the public is a huge factor. The amount of contradictions with regards to information and protocols here is staggering. I was shocked to read the reports of those under self quarantine in New York. Germany’s success in reducing the death rate can also be attributed to early detection with those who have symptoms getting tested and receiving supportive care. I still am seeing sick people go to work nearly everyday in my classes.
This is such a good point! I see so many people at work making questionable choices and not washing hands

It really boggles my mind!

And they just cancelled Niece's in person classes and her trip to Florence. At least she has an off campus apartment so she's staying there for now. She's also a junior so it's not as big a deal for her.

Dh said yesterday a guy was next to him going to the bathroom and they both got to the sinks at the same time. He said the guy put his hand under the water for a second and left. He didn’t even use soap

Right. The original question was would it go away, so I replied with the dates that Uni was running the promo.

lol DH said he got called out last week for not doing a 20 count with soap. I thought it was funny that someone was policing the handwashing. I have been doing my singing while washing. I think I am good. And my knuckles are bloody to prove it.
